Game recap: Milan 2-4 Parma

Milan’s tie with Parma in the Serie A was viewed as a chance to get the domestic campaign back on track after being thoroughly embarrassed en-route to being dumped out of the UEFA Champions league mid-week.

Right from the outset however, it was evident that the Milan back line were in for another long afternoon. An early hard foul by fullback Ignazio Abate on Jonathan Biabiany allowed former Rossoneri midfielder Antonio Cassano to almost open the scoring, if not for the free kick burying itself in keeper Christian Abbiati’s side netting.

The pressure from Parma continued and the worst happened next as keeper Abbiati was shown red by the ref and was sent packing for a harsh challenge on Parma on-loan midfielder Ezequiel Schelotto. Seedorf was left with a difficult decision so early on in the game as he opted to substitute Michael Essien from his midfield spot for goalkeeper Marco Amelia. To no avail however as Cassano sent the keeper the wrong way and easily slotted home from 9 yards out.

From then on it was always an uphill battle for Milan mostly. Cassano had a chance minutes later as his shot failed to bend into the upper right hand corner of the goal with the keeper clearly beaten. On the other side Milan were beginning to link up well as attacking midfielder Andrea Poli began servicing out of favor striker Mario Balotelli more and more as the game wore on.

Balotelli was unlucky not to open the scoring as Kaka flicked on a Riccardo Montolivo corner in his path but his shot came back off the post to everyone at the San Siro’s disbelief. After that it was all Parma as they basically laid siege to the Milan goal with the back line of Milan, particularly Philippe Mexes and Daniele Bonera, at the heart of the defense, threw around rash challenges. Both players would go on to receive yellow cards due to their physical challenges that mostly were not seeking the ball.

The second half started almost just as the first half started, with Cassano scoring on a breakdown of the defense. Life was found from Milan moments later as Kaka’s curling corner found substitute Adil Rami, who had taken the place of Urby Emmanuelson just moments earlier, and the Frenchman nodded home at the far post. Milan started to press more after the goal looking to equalize as both teams started to open up the game. Captain Montolivo was able to draw a penalty after a bad challenge from the Parma defender made him eat grass and Balotelli was able to calmly put the ball home and score the equalizer.

The happiness was short-lived however as only two minutes later Amauri was able to back heel nutmeg Amelia and score to deflate the entire life out of the Milan squad. The misery for the Rossoneri only continued as Biabiany scored on the last play of the game in stoppage time to send Milan sprawling to a 4-2 home defeat and 5th straight in all competitions.

No doubt that parma was better side than us. we always possesed the ball match by match but can do nothing with it. Sometimes I wonder why team like parma and udinese which have few star players in their squad could make milan so miserable?

We will get them next season. Forza Milan!!!!

You people make me laugh with your comments!!! Yes it is quite a list of players but it isn’t a dream like you say. First of all I wanna remind you all that we got 12 new players this season only and yeas some of them are in loan but still new at our club: Taarabt,Essien,Rami,Honda,Kaka,Birsa,Matri,Coppola,Silvestre,Poli,Saponara,Vergara. Now, on my list above I got Balo out and if Chelsea wants him ask for Zouma and Salah and let him go to his beloved Special 1. And I know that Galliani can make it happen. Torino wouldn’t say no if we offered… Read more »

(not mentioning the ones you commented on and making Taarabt and Rami permanent signings) Doria, Willems, Jordy C, Wanyama, konoplyanka and Maher – yeah these are basically free. You just need to include them in your squad???
