Milan 2-1 Juve (Trofeo Luigi Berlusconi)

130

MILAN beat Juventus 2-1 in the Trofeo Luigi Berlusconi, at the San Siro earlier tonight. Goals from Kevin-Prince Boateng and Clarence Seedorf sealed a win, though the victory came at the cost of a few injuries…

Once again Milan were without key players, so much so that only 1 senior striker was available, so Massimiliano Allegri fielded a 4-3-2-1 instead, with Christian Abbiati behind a back 4 of Ignazio Abate, Alessandro Nesta, Daniele Bonera and Taye Taiwo. In the middle, the senatore trio of Gattuso, Ambrosini and Seedorf, were played while Emmanuelson and Kevin-Prince Boateng were played behind the lone striker, Antonio Cassano

The opening 5 minutes were a mixed bag, Juve looked energetic and tracked back well, though apart from Pirlo failed to keep the ball as well as Milan. The first real opportunity of the game came for Milan, with Antonio Cassano driving a shot narrowly wide from around 25 yards out. Clarence Seedorf tested Buffon with a low shot just a yard or two closer than Cassano’s effort a moment earlier, meanwhile the only thing Abbiati had to do was catch Krasic’s shot (which was aimed straight at him).

Pirlo set for “emotional” San Siro return
Aquilani: “I am close to Milan”

Milan took the lead in the 9th minute! Following a superb cross from the right by Ignazio Abate, the target was Kevin-Prince Boateng, who executed a perfect volley hard and low along the ground, which curved into the bottom corner past a helpless Buffon. An absolutely brilliant effort, his technique was perfect, a stunning goal!

Just before the quarter of an hour mark, Milan had a chance to make it two. Following a great through ball from Antonio Cassano, Gattuso slipped in the area, before getting up quickly and cutting back, however, Arturo Vidal flew in with a heavy challenge at this point, and although he got the ball it could have feasibly been given as a penalty, nonetheless, a corner was given, and unfortunately nothing came from it.

With 22 minutes on the clock, Taiwo was starting to shine, and in a move which involved a lot of build up from him, Milan ended up with a free kick just outside the Juventus penalty area, and Clarence Seedorf stepped up to take it. The dutchman took a few steps for firing the ball up and down over the wall and in off the post! An outstanding goal to make it 2-0 Milan! Meanwhile, Juve had not threatened since the Krasic effort, and Milan were making better and better passes with each minute!

Approaching the half hour mark, Juventus very nearly pulled one back! With Lichtensteiner stepping into the space left behind by Krasic on the right flank, the ball was played back to just outside the area, where Claudio Marchisio had made the run. The Italian blasted the ball first time, and it rattled against the crossbar and out, a very good chance.

At the same time, Kevin-Prince Boateng was forced off as a result of the knock he sustained a few minutes ago – Mathieu Flamini was his replacement.

The next 10 minutes saw Juve come in to the game a little more down the wings, the likes of Vidal still showed some energy for them but Milan remained dominant. Juve’s 4-2-4 meant they really couldn’t keep the ball well enough to utilise their energy and attacking players, while Milan looked very comfortable with a 2 goal lead and the bigger share of the ball.

The half drew to a close in a slow fashion. Milan opted to keep possession and spread it around which in truth, took a lot of the life out of the match, and juve seemed unable to do anything about it really, nonetheless, a good opening 45 minutes from the Rossoneri!

Just after half time, Taye Taiwo was injured, and Gianluca Zambrotta was brought on to replace him

Christian Abbiati was called into action for the first time since Krasic’s effort in the first half just over 5 minutes in to the second half, a long range effort from former Rossoneri man Andrea Pirlo forcinga good save out of him, though Milan still looked the better side.

Coming up to the 60 minute mark, and Juve pulled one back. After Cassano gave the ball away, 2 quick passes from Pirlo and then Del Piero put Mirko Vucinic through, and he made no mistake in stabbing the ball past Abbiati into the back of the net, to reduce Mila’s lead to 1

Nesta was injured before the goal went in, and Rodrigo Ely was brought on to replace him.

Just past the 65 minute mark, Kingsley Boateng was brought on for Gennaro Gattuso

Alessandro Del Piero had a golden opportunity to equalise for Juve as the game approached 70 minutes. After a wonderdul through ball from Andrea Pirlo, Del Piero was in, but the Italian could not beat his compatriot, and Christian Abbiati saved the 1 on 1 very well!

With just 10 minutes left to go, Milan should have had a penalty. Following good build up play in the box, Cassano layed it off for Zambrotta at the byline, who pulled it back for Flamini to shoot. Flamini shot but the effort was blocked out for a corner by De Ceglie, however, the replays showed it struck De Ceglie’s hand, but the referee ignored Milan’s protests.

Luca Antonini was brought on for Clarence Seedorf for the last 5 minutes.

In the 87th minute, Kinsley Boateng almost scored a superb goal! Milan were pressing forward and Emmanuelson did well to retain possession, before giving it to Cassano. Antonio Cassano found Kingsley Boateng well, and the 17 year old stepped in and unleashed a stunning curling shot, which very unfortunately rattled off the post. Shortly After, Buffon denied Cassano from a narrow angle.

Massimo Oddo was brought on for Abate in the last minute of the game.

Milan saw out the game by keeping the ball well, to claim the Trofeo Luigi Berlusconi!

Whilst some consider this a bit of a poison chalice, or a jinx, being realistic, a good win a week before the season starts is always a good thing, particuarly given the under-strength nature of the Rossoneri’s side (and the pretty much full strength nature of juve’s!)

Best Moment: Boateng’s volley

Man of the Match: Clarence Seedorf, shading out Abate and Abbiati. Credit must go to Taiwo too, before his injury.

@Giancarlo can u please name those younsters who are still there?????… I want to hear it…

Giancarlo

Pato, Abate, Boateng… for starters… then there are others who had some matches too the prior season. Take your talk elsewhere please. It’s all negative and we’re tired of hearing it.

Pato Is Brilliant

No, Ambrosini should play because he is our fearless leader. He contributes a lot of virtual qualities in the team which sadly goes unnoticed.

Pato Is Brilliant

Fosati, Ganz, Rodrigo Ely, Valotti, Kingsley thats what I know. There are 4 more youth players in our squad but I cannot recall. Lets ask Gian. Youhoooo Where are you Giancarlo. :-)

Jameel

Kolas@ yeah its what i meant, i too got ur idea and i bleave in it, 4 at least a better reserve bench we have to do away with some old papas u know….. Forza Milan)))

Ibitoye

Kola. Ma argue pele abirun were Giancarlo yen. Se oti gbo.

Ouch!

I just cant believe how some still bash seedorf by calling him slowdorf? etc.. All I will say is form is temporary, class is permanent! Respect Seedorf a true Milan legend! am happi for him :) as well as kingsley boateng! he seems like a real prospect! :D an lastly good luck to the ones who got injured hope they get better soon! :)

kolas

@jameel yeah i really hope that happens cuz i cant even bear to see retarded milan side in d champions league.. At least, a semi final berth

hencyn

@pato is briliant agree with u.you can’t believe that ely is just 17yrs old.for a defender to be 17yrs of age and still play at this level is a sign of how good this guy is.for ely to improve alot he should be paired with either nesta or t.silva and not bonera.

Youcef

Shut up Bonera was just awesome in these last games. Stop criticising him just because of his name which is “Bonera”, try to be objective damn

sammy

Like you are about Zlatan I presume. You are really deluded.

Yehez Kiel

he let vucinic score juve’s only goal.. lol! bonera isnt good at all!

Wil2

you’re right that he let vucinic let make that goal, but so far i know was nesta injured that moment and ely still wasn’t there and it was played great by pirlo and del piero

hope

@kolas
haha
milan cannot guaranteed playing times 4 them, and milan want to give they more experiences and playing times with sending them to other club.
Its kinda the management of milan.
Its not yet trusting a youngsters, but also means never to you. And i dont argue with u.
What do you think about co-ownership? I’m kind frustated about that.

kolas

just because of a match????.. U cant be serious…

kolas

the problem i do have with milan is that whenever they loan a player, they dont seem to be interested in them anymoree… Why is dis happening???… I just hope and pray merkel and paloshi comes back…. I cant still believe we lost astori.. Very good defender who needs time and encouragement to prove his worth… Milan management is really changing…

Breaking news: “Aquilani would be an AC Milan player on Thursday.” Aquilani’s agent, (I dunno his name) has recently claimed that the Italian will move to Milan in fews days.

Guys, I don’t know what to say as I am doubtful about that guy. He is prone to injury and kind of inconsistent. For me Monty was a way better selection.

According to my sources on twitter, Aqua-man is not the Mr. X. If this transfer is completed by Thursday then Galliani will bring another midfielder on 29th August and that would be the Mr. X.

Comments?

Giancarlo

He’s terrible, and I hope this is just his agent talking. I can’t stand Aquilani. I really can’t. And many agree with me.

And stop citing twitter please. It’s getting a tad bit silly.

Sid

this game was good, but we could have controlled in better in the second half. although we did well without a lot of first team players. im kinda angry we got 3-4 players injured, although not much blame can be put on juve…hope they recover fast. need more running from cassano. i hope aquilani deal falls through and he goes to udinese, id rather have montolivo and a true trequartista

sherbini

if aquilani arrives so we’re wasting time and money. Montolivo and another creative midfielder like alcntara or ganso would satisfy the fans. I think mr x could be de rossi.

Giancarlo

Mr X is probably a young player (under 25) that we haven’t heard much about as of late. This is my opinion.

sammy

Could be so. I thought Eriksen but he declined City. So forget about him. Who else?

Pato Is Brilliant

I also doesnt want Aqualini to join Milan. I dont know wtf Fiorentina boss is upto. He said that he will only sell Monty abroad. What a dweeb.

sherbini

Calvano and fossati are important players that the club should give attention. Learn from barca.

Giancarlo

Calvano had a serious injury and may be out for months…

Pato Is Brilliant

I want Galliani to buy us Monty. But alas, his interest on him have disappear recently.

Giancarlo

If they don’t sell Montolivo this summer, they’ll lose him on a free transfer next summer…

Pato Is Brilliant

Could anyone of you guys believe this. Aquilani as Pirlo’s replacement. This is a joke really. What if he gets injured a lot. Atleas Montolivo is very less injury prone than he is. I am totally against this deal.

sammy

He is not replacing Pirlo. He may replace Rino or Seedorf. Do we really use Pirlos position. We have Ambro and Bommel as DM, whats left? A righty and a lefty. Right KPB left ?. Where the hell does Aquilani fit in. On the bench?

hope

take it easy. We can do nothing. But, let see. We did bring back abate, antonini, oddo.
Im sure they will comeback.

Pato Is Brilliant

Gian, lets hope they dont sell him this summer. Then we could get him on Bosman transfer next summer. Come to think, if Aquilani does arrive and Monty too next year. Then maybe Galliani would not renew the contracts of our veterans. That would be brilliant.

Giancarlo

This is why I believe we may land Montolivo on a transfer at the last minute, if no transfer overseas materializes. They won’t want to lose him for nothing. Fiorentina already signed Kharja and Lazzari. They don’t need Montolivo anymore.

sammy

If Monty arrives is he Mr X. Not possible. Will Ganso arrive in january? Unlikely. WE are broke and daddy won’t pay.

Giancarlo

We’re not broke. It’s simply not true.

Let me explain… we will get Mr X on the 29th. But that doesn’t rule out another last minute signing (remember Robinho?).

sammy

29th or 31th. That I know. But signing these two players (Monty and Aqui) is not what I would call i gift. Then Berlusconi really needs to open his wallet, as you know Milans budget is shattered now. The 50€milk is surely gone by now.

Giancarlo

50 mil? I’ve already gone through this on here. We’ve spend 33 million this summer, but have made 22 million… in essence spending only 10 million. So the budget isn’t “shattered”. Far from it.

sammy

That will not bring in the heavy artillery. Only players like Aquilani, injury prone players for 6€milj. Ive heard they have reached a settlement. A loan at first then a buyout.

Giancarlo

No not exactly. We still have 40 million remaining of the budget, and that is more then enough to at least bring in one major signing. And if we do get Aquilani on a loan, that’ll leave the budget unscathed.

sammy

I hope it´s not a forced buyout. You think we will spend a major dough on a single player. How would we afford Ganso. Will we take out money from the next budget. Seems a bit risky. But Nasri who wants to leave or stay at Arsenal will only cost us 30€milj. But we need a left midfielder and a decent trequartista. On the other hand Cassano has really improved over the last few days. Maybe he has lost some weight and built up his focus. He plays much better now. Maybe we won’t need a trequartista after all.

Pato Is Brilliant

Yea lets hope that. Monty + Aqua + Ganso in January then we are all set and not to forget, Kaka’s return.

Giancarlo

I don’t think KAka will return to Milan. I think he’s more likely to stay in Spain, go to PSG, or maybe even Arsenal.

sammy

Kaka has seen the last of the cookies in Milan. I think he still got his mojo but maybe he feels it is a step back joining Milan again. Like Sheva. Ibra just kicks ass where ever he goes. So he doesn’t count.

Pato Is Brilliant

Economic situation in Italy is quite tensed. It would not be fair if Berlu spends 50M on a single player specially as being a President and the owner of multiple organizations. We will have to spend wisely in these closing days of the market.

sammy

I see your point and it really sucks. UEFA economic fair play just around the corner. The thought about that is just sickening. Even Berlu can not help us anymore. Hope after we have closed our contract wit San Siro after 2015 we can build a new stadium and profit more to our club. juventus is on the right track here.It will be a very long process for Serie A.

hope

its nasri..

Giancarlo

Could happen. Hopefully this week ends well. Qaddafi going to prison and a trial. Milan signing some important players. All will be good.

BTW, Qaddafi was a big investor for Juventus… even more reason I hate Juventus.

Anyways back to subject… I think Nasri is possible… his city move has hit the blocks.

rossonero23

bayern have denied signing monty btw…they said they are done signing players..lol…

i think we’ll sign monty, but we still need a world class cam…

hope

nasri is great player, not yet a worldwide player, young, and not many media link the player with milan.

Andriy Shevchenko

Why do you hate Gadafi?

Giancarlo

Same reason why the libyan people hate him. My country was ruled by a dictator for 35 years… dictators are all the same corrupt brutal monsters.

tcl_00

I am liking Taiwo… he will settle in quickly … what a business ! Thats the best signing thus far…. Gattusu please start from the bench and give someone else a chance… can’t u see today that you are a yard slow from the rest of the squad !!!

rossonero23

from today? it was clear Gattuslow lost a step years ago…people are blind though.

Giancarlo

Um who is defending Gattuso? He was good last season, but everybody says he is past his best.

Zona milan

i think Kingsley Boateng sent out Paloschi and definitely he will be the next Weah

Eebrokaka

TWF

@ all, have you checked that milan currently have at least 26 players in their squad? i recall that for this season, allegri wanted to slim the squad down to 25 players few months ago. please check the names on the list below. feel free to add/edit should i missed out some names. 3 GKs : abbiati, amelia, roma 10 defenders : abate, nesta, silva, taiwo, yepes, mexes, antonini, zambrota, oddo, bonera 7 midfielders : KPB, bommel, ambrosini, seedorf, gattuso, flamini, emanuelson 6 forwards : ibra, robinho, pato, cassano, inzaghi, sharaawy my questions to you all are : 1. who… Read more »

camacs

i luv my club, Milan. We ar CL contenders not pretenders. YES Allegri is gud

rossonero23

no, you’re mistaken. we are pretenders. milan are no longer feared, i’m afraid.

sammy

Why are you afraid? Is it because Milan is feared? There there don cry. Milan won’t hurt you. That much.

Milanista1899

Mr.X beta not be Modric…..The guy sucks.He cudn’t even match 35 yr old Seedorf last season….I think it’s going 2 be Bale…

Giancarlo

Why bale? He’s one of the most overrated players out there. Half of a good season and suddenly everybody wants him? Claudio Gentile says he’s vastly overrated. Gentile told top Italian teams to stay away from him.

fatai owotutu

great milan plz keep the youngstar to build up our squad for the season, cos the old hav less playing time forza milan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BREAKING NEWS (NOT TWITTER… but SPORTMEDIASET)

Inter is going to open discussions for a 30 million euro bid for Ricky Kaka… in the next week, Marco Branca is going to meet with Madrid officials to discuss the transfer of the player. Madrid are demanding no less than 30 million euros, and will not part with less than that sum of money.

Again 30 million euros. Not one cent less. Not a loan. Not 11 million. But 30 million.

(check sportmediaset.it/mercato)

Milanista

Honestly though, I do not think Inter will be willing to spend 30, if Eto was sold for just a bit more…..

Giancarlo

Oh but this is pretty serious. They’ll probably be able to get it down to like 25 mil… but Branca is indeed meeting with Madrid officials for Kaka.

Milanista

Yeah I know. This sucks though. I don’t want Kaka in Milan, but even worse, I don’t want him in Italy. Oh well, its his life, but the move will be met by a huge amount of criticism. It hurt today (yesterday) to see Pirlo wear black and white, and it will hurt even more to see Kaka wear blue and black.

Andriy Shevchenko

Giancarlo what nationality are you?

Giancarlo

Not important. It’s not relevant to anything here. Have a nice day.

Ajibola

I read comments here about Aqua and i feel bad. I’m not a fan of Aquilani bcos he’s not as commanding in midfield as Monty (IMO) BUT we shld not rule out d fact that he’s a very good player. I read d news that he’s signing for Milan on goal.com this morning and guess what? Liverpool fans are MAD!!!! They regard him as their best midfielder at this point bcos his form picked during preseason and sure gonna have a good season if given a chance moreover, how can u not take Aqua for the price (£6) when Liverpool… Read more »
