SC Internacional 2-2 Milan (Internacional win 2-0 on penalties)

57

MILAN lost on penalties for the second time in the Audi cup, meaning they came 4th overall in the Audi Cup. Milan scored early through Ibrahimovic after good play from Seedorf and Robinho, but Internacional were level around the half an hour mark. In the second half Milan took the lead once more this time through Pato (following Robinho and Ibrahimovic’s 1-2) but D’Alessandro levelled it for Internacional before the Rossoneri lost on penalties.

Showing off the new third kit today was a much changed starting XI from yesterday, With Luca Antonini, Mario Yepes, Thiago Silva and Gianluca Zambrotta in charge of defending Christian Abbiati’s goal. The midfield consisted of Gennaro Gattuso, Massimo Ambrosini and Clarence Seedorf. In attack, Robinho lined up behind Pato and Ibrahimovic.

The Rossoneri made a flying start to the game, clearly trying to improve on yesterday’s slower/more lethargic performance, and Milan threatened in the first minute with the front 3 looking particularly potent.

3 minutes into the game and Ibrahimovic scored! Much like yesterday Milan got an early lead – albeit deservedly this time, and once again it was thanks to Zlatan Ibrahimovic! Following some good build up play from Clarence Seedorf, Robinho drilled the ball into the box across goal and the big Swede scored with a clever backheel into the far post, a delightful finish!

Milan dominated the next quarter of an hour, they were in control of the ball, they kept possession much better than yesterday and looked far more comfortable physically too.

However, with 22 minutes on the clock, the scoreline was level. Following Antononi losing the ball high up field, Internacional broke on the counter, Yepes was beaten for pace on the outside and the ball was played into the box along the ground for Leandro Damião to score. The goal came from nowhere and came against the run of play but in all truth it could – and should – have been avoided.

Around the 30 minute mark and SC Internacional very nearly took the lead. The goal had shaken Milan a bit and they were caught napping once again on the counter, Internacional were 3 against 2, fortunately though, some poor decision making meant that nothing came of the attack – nonetheless, it was another wake up call. Shortly after Robinho had a shot however it went narrowly wide.

5 minutes before half time and Alexandre Pato had a chance to give Milan the lead! Following a glorious chipped through ball, Pato had broken the offside trap and was in, however, he unfortunately could not bring the ball down well enough (it was a difficult ball to control) and the chance was gone. Milan were still the better side but were struggling to create clear cut chances andsometimes seemed to lack structure.

At half time Flavio Roma was brought on to replace Christian Abbiati.

The second half started in a similar way to the first, and Milan very nearly scored just minutes in too. In a clever move, Robinho found himself inside the area and he played the ball along the ground across the box to the unmarked Pato, who – with a free shot on goal – missed the target and sent the ball rattling off the post and out, perhaps he was unlucky though he really should have scored in that situation.

Approaching the 60 minute mark and finally Milan were in the lead, and this time Pato took his chance! Robinho played a brilliant 1-2 with Zlatan Ibrahimovic to burst into the box, before squaring the ball for Pato to have a simple tap in – and this time he made no mistake – it was a wonderful flowing move for a goal and the front 3’s combination worked out brilliantly.

Just moments later the Rossoneri could have doubled their lead. A re-invigorated Pato had burst into life and following some nice link up play again found himself in the box with his back to goal, he pulled off a clever turn and only a brilliant save denied him. From the ensuing corner, Pato played in a superb ball into the box, however, Massimo Ambrosini could only just reach it and unfortunately couldn’t score.

With 25 minutes to go, Cassano, Boateng and Valoti came on for Ibrahimovic, Robinho, and Gattuso.

In all honesty the subs once again sucked the life out of the game – although there were still 1 or 2 moments of creativity, there wasn’t much action in the immediate aftermath.

Ten minutes from time, Urby Emmanuelson, Massimo Oddo and Mattia De Sciglio came on for Zambrotta, Ambrosini and Antonini.

A minute after the subs and SC Internacional were level. Although Mario yepes could have done a bit better, it was a fortunate ricochet which took the ball into the path of D’alessandro, and the Argentine made no mistake in blasting it past Flavio Roma to level the scoreline once more.

Just 2 minutes from time, Milan could have taken the lead. Antonio Cassano was given a bit of space in the box, and found a pass through to Valoti – the youngster took a snap shot and got it on target well but Renan pulled off another fine save to deny the Rossoneri a win at the death!

Cassano had a brilliant end to the game, and following a clever bit of quick thinking from Antonio Cassano the ball was whipped into the box but Kevin-Prince Boateng could not get there quick enough to take advantage, and the game ended level. So, on to penalties the sides went!

Valoti stepped up for Milan’s first and although he struck it well, it was at a good height and was saved by Renan, while D’Alessandro scored for Internacional. Cassano then failed to convert his penalty – once again saved by Renan, while Nei converted for SC Internacional. For the third penalty, Massimo Oddo very unfortunately hit the post before Roma stopped Internacional from scoring. Pato had to score to keep them in it, and Pato hit his penalty in the same way and in the same place as Cassano, once again, Renan saved.

The penalties meant Milan finished 4th despite them being the better side in the game, it was the substitutions which ruined the game and Internacional did well to get back and seemed to want it more in the shootout.

Best Moment: the 1-2 before Pato’s goal

Gabriel Milan

Milan to start the season away to Cagliari, as we meet Juventus in week 6

Sammy

I second that Ahmed.

El Greco

totally agree, we have no midfield. the tactic is simple: 8 players defending, then throw the ball to our 3 attackers…they know what to do. Hope we get much better soon…

ftw

yeah let’s go to uefa cup

DAMN

We’re lucky if we go there!

BBs

Just win the supercoppa italiana!(at the moment)Then cl,scudetto and coppa italia!

Giorgi Sigua

Galliani is wrong. We should buy a player or players and start learning them to connect with the squad so we have a strong squad. We have a LOT of work to do if we want to beat Inter in Bejing

Another thing, why was our first penalty-taker Valotti?

Yemeni-Milan

To give the young a chance to have fun, Calm down just a friendly. Last year we didnt win a single friendly

TvT

deepak

allegri will now tell its just a friendly match my team is more competitive to win chamleague next season by beating barca 10-0 in final hahahaha

Andriy

Im agree with Ahmed, that there’s no connection between our def and atk.. and our players lose the ball very often and quite easily compare to the other 3 teams even to Barcelona 2nd team (they’re even better than Milan 1st team!) it’s sad to see these things, misplaced pass, sloppy defenders, slow midfielders!! if you realised, there were often we could attack internacional with counter attack but we’re slow especially if SEEDORF, Van Bommel is holding the ball.. if its Gattuso/Ambro they will send the ball to the wrong person..

nick

There is work to be done before the season starts!

Ibra,Robinho, Pato are on form. GREAT!

Antonini suck as@!NEED A MORE RELIABLE BACKUP!

Valoti looks impressive!

Cassano doesnt look interested-probably Milan should consider selling him NOT for BALOTELLI who is a BIGGER NUT case!

Need at least 2 world class midfield players this summer!

D-Bo

I think that your first sentence was key. I do not see any reason to be melting down at this point. Niether match during the Audi Cup started the 11 players I would expect to see on the field at once. I believe Allegri was simply trying to figure out where the players are right now, and probably toying with some attacking options to test cohesion. Overall, a Milan squad that did not start roughly 5 of its starting 11 (at least in my estimation, I do not see how Robinho, Thiago Silva, Pato, and a couple others do not… Read more »

Pato Is Brilliant

rossonero23

Yemeni-Milan

Shit Klose and Cisse visit the San Siro, its all good
1.Win
2.Win
3.Draw
4.Win
Hopefully!

Sammy

And we are back at square one yet again. ”Ibra-dependente” all over again. Cassano sucks balls and the midfields are running like zombies. Allegri buy who ever you want. I´m tired of you bullshitting us with Mr X. We are going no where in CL if your gonna tear out Ibra just to win the damn scudetto.

Yemeni-Milan

Chill dude, Everyone said we were ibra dependent last year??? What happened at the end Sir?

Pato Is Brilliant

Robinho was on fire tonight! The combination of Pato, Ibra and Robinho were destroying the opposition defence! Good to watch. But our midfield sucks.

DaSwan

better than yesterday. robinho lookin reeeeal sharpe. a word of wisdom to KPB …NO ONE IS INDISPENSIBLE AT MILAN.

caleb

we will improve. This type of moment is needed to make the players work hard. And realise the up coming task ahead.

D-Bo

Exactly, now that some issues have been identified, they know what type of work to put in. I am not worried.

84

It’s unfortunate that the ghosts of Istanbul still seem to haunt us.

Our ragazzi are only built for football in Italy right now – not good enough for a team with our aspirations!

Pato Is Brilliant

I hope Galliani buys out this Renan guy. Man he was amazing in the plenty shootout. He saved 3 strikes. Better than Abbiati, who was sleeping in shootout against Bayern lol. :-)

DAMN

You do realize that we actually let them win on the Penalties right? Seems like this Renan’s Mom died and his Dad is in Hospital so Pato probably felt sorry and told his teammates to blast them i mean they all went in the same side which was the Left(Right from the GK’s View)!

axelynx

I’ve just read an article said that pastore’s transfers could possibly done in hours. But he (zamparini) denied to mention which team to finilize that transfers. Any idea? 45m at cost

Yemeni-Milan

Galliani was at the Milan game. He is not coming

D-Bo

I would guess Chelsea.

rossonero23

boateng’s not milan quality..

he’s a portsmouth reject ffs.

caleb

prince really needs to discover his real position at milan. Last season is gone. Teams will come at us with every thing!good to know that ibra, pato and robinho are flamin………we really need players like el sharrawy.pace to burn and a good technique.

Pato Is Brilliant

Sorry to say, but I hate it when fans say that Boateng is the”Prince of Milan.” He is not good in attacking midfielder role. I dont wanna see him playing there. No creativity whatsoever. He is always delightful to watch when he plays as a box to box midfielder. He has a world class stamina and fitness without any doubt. But he is terrible in trequartista position. Come on Galliani, do your stuff and buy two midfielder. Two players that can perform a star-like performance in out slow and rigid midfield. Otherwise we are doomed in Europe. Note: Remember Milanfans,… Read more »

DAMN

The King of Midfield Maybe…The King of Attack however is Ibra no doubt!

Uwem peters

Plz somebody should tru more light on league fixtures

Yehez Kiel

attack seems pretty great! midfield is terrible BUT HOW DID WE LET THEM EQUALIZE TWICE!? i mean cmon!

J.C

Much better game today from Milan. Our attack looks great..with the exception of cassano(who i’m really beggining to hate right now) all our strikers are in great form. Robinho has showed that he deserves to play behind the strikers this season and NOT cassano(time for him to go). Our midfield still looks sloppy and lethargic..even KP Boateng looked slugish in possesion!!! Our defense is beggining to worry me though. We had one of the best defenses last season yet we let this brazilian team draw level twice!!!!! I’ve said it before and i’m gonna say it again we need major… Read more »

milan1989

yepes is too slow

Idowu

I tink we need 2 get our @cts 2gether be4 its 2 l@te.

leonel

rememer, we are trying players. attack is fit becouse they were playing with NT. the point of this cup was to try midfield and see their problems carefully. if they liked robinho as trequartista they may buy first a mezzala and wait for ganso in january. but if they dont like how he did there he may buy first a trequartista or something who knows. dont be dissapointed of your team, pre season is like this.

bucci

Really enjoyable match. Our two goals were very nice! Unlucky not to have a third with Valoti’s chance.. Cassano put in a magic pass to him. Disappointing with no penaltys scored, but many more pre season games and training ahead to perfect that. Robinho was the difference again today.

MoMIlan

Maybe at friendlies some players are just not into playing they might be still mentally in the vacation such as KVB Yepes Cassano…

Pasha

I started to get pissed at cassano and boateng as well but remember guys the brazilians have been in shape all summer due to copa america and Ibrahim is always good so I say give other time to get their match fitness back then analyze them after august 6th

Uwem peters

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD WE NEED 2 GO BACK 2 OUR OLD WAYS,WHICH IS YOUNG SYSTEM,LOOK AT BARCELONA YOUTH,THEY SINGEL HANDED WIN D AUDI CUP WITHOUT THEIR TOP STARS,LETS START DEVELOPING OUR YOUTH TEAMS AGAIN,THAN ALWAYS GOING 4 READY MADE,milan till i die
