Official: Milan terminate the contract of Boban as Chief Football Officer of the Club with immediate effect

Zvonimir Boban has officially left Milan after falling out with CEO Ivan Gazidis; he is expected to go back to FIFA.

The farewell was obvious and only the official announcement was missing: Boban-Milan – the end credits arrived after less than a year; the Croatian fell out with CEO Ivan Gazidis, who has the full support of owners Elliott, and is now a former Milan director.

The statement on the Diavolo website on Saturday evening reads:

“Milan confirms that it has informed Zvonimir Boban of the termination of his contract as Chief Football Officer of the Club with immediate effect. The Club thanks Zvonimir for his service to the Club over the past nine months, and wishes him all the best for his future professional career.

“The Club will keep supporting Stefano Pioli and his first team in all areas and is optimistic looking ahead to the remaining games of the 2020 season. The Club’s ambition remains to return to the top tier of European Football, while investing responsibly in the team in compliance with UEFA Financial Fair Play.

“Ivan Gazidis, CEO of Milan, said: ‘We thank Zvone for his efforts over the past nine months and wish him well in his future endeavors. We must now turn our attention to football and the important games to come. Stefano Pioli and his staff are doing an exceptional job growing the performances of the team every week and will have our full support as they continue this work, in what is a difficult time for the country’.”

Frederic Massara, Paolo Maldini and Zvonimir Boban during training at Milanello. (@acmilan.com)

Boban gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport last week, suggesting that there are ‘two souls’ at Milan and that Gazidis went behind the backs of Zvone and Paolo Maldini, and contacted Ralf Rangnick for the dual role of a coach-director. Boban is expected to return to working at FIFA.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Maldini and Frederic Massara. They are likely to leave in the summer. Over the past two days, only Gazidis came to watch the team in training.

Sad day for ac milan fans …
Elliot want to make ac milan a feeder club
Pathetic
I hope maldini hands in his resignation so that he has no part in this

yeah cause AC Milan atm are playing better football than Leipzig.

Last season Milan would’ve crushed Leipzig.

Are we pulling a Giampaolo again? Now Ragnick is the new messias? Some never learn…

anom

Exactly. A coach with zero experience in Italian football would lift Milan to the top? So what has Rangnick ever won? Nothing really. Just another one season coach coming… Year Zero all over again next year too.

Raven

Don’t even get me started with the Mane Werner and all those who he brought to…..

Complete bullshit. It’s like we praise Mihajlovic for the success of Donnarumma, surely he had the balls to play a 16 YO kid ahead a CL winner but Donnarumma is the one who eats trains and behaves like a pro.

Ragnick is a gamble, and the reason is because Elliot doesn’t want to spend, so, a top coach is out of the question

Leipzig have spent years developing their squad
We’ve started again with another year 0

Yeah. The club has been destroyed from the inside. Gazidis as the main architect.

I’m disappointed with how this was handled but as much I respect and admire Boban as a person and former player he was wrong for making such a public statement about Gazidis contacting Ralf Rangnick.

Certain affairs needs to be address behind close doors and directly with Gazidis.

Only the one who loves you greater than his pay master will take the risk to tell you the true situation of things.
We the fans would have been bt Gazidis if we didn’t have a Boban in the house to let us know that our boss is doing something else and telling us something else. Would you have preferred someone who plays to the gallery to the one who wants things to be done the way they should? I think the hero here is Boban and he will remain in our hearts.

Deku

no, he caused drama and left. Riola now will fully use this situation to force Donnarumma away. The wiser choice, if you really are a normal director, is to not cause any fuss push your ideas as much as possible and if you want you can leave during summer when the season ends.

Gazidis didn’t kill someone. He “maybe” is negotiating to replace our directors. It’s normal to find a replacement before replacing someone. If Ralf became or new boss, it means Maldini and Boban are done. So he is their direct replacement. So what gazidis should have done? Going to Maldini and say: Look I may have found a better replacement for you so lets go and negotiate with the person who will replace you? Again. I think the whole year zero thing is wrong but I also saw what can he (Ralf) do in two or three years. So we should… Read more »

Why if we cannot pay for players (Correa for example) We can pay the salaries of coaches? They receive more money at home that working at MIlan. This is completely ridiculous. You can see it from a business perspective but this is a sport. The message is clear, no more world class players to Milan, we are just going to be a midtable feeder club with aspirations of Europe. You can say all the objective shit you want, but at the end of the day, it’s feelings that drives those one the field. Why did Ronaldo pick Juve? The ovation… Read more »

RIP Milan indeed. No top player will ever come to Milan – especially with a salary cap of 2M€. Why is it that Gazidis get 4M€ and all he does is say “no” to all the quality players Maldini & Boban tried to buy. Gazidis was supposed to be good in getting the finances better yet Milan made a record loss last season and Gazidid has managed to negotiate a new deal with Emirates that almost halves the money received! Sounds like a great deal, eh. Gazidis has already failed miserably and the longer he stays the more damage he… Read more »

Ralf is better than Maldini ? Milan is 7 time champions league winner ! What did he win at Leipzig ? WTF is this shit thinking ? Milan can’t wait 10 years to come back in business ! Milan is not leipzig ! We need Maldini, not rangnick and gazidis !

Did he won 7 UCL as director? Are all UCL winners, born directors? So why we fired Inzaghi as a coach? He won so many trophies!

You get judge based on your results. Last year we were 5. This year we are 7. It’s a downgrade and MALDINI is responsible for it.

Yeah maybe. I’m the one who fired Rino with the best results in last few years. Oh wait! It was Maldini who made him resign. It’s funny how you are defending a legend but not seeing the pattern. Gattuso got us to one point off UCL and Maldini and Co made him resign to start a year zero! Now they are facing the same shit.

Raven

you clearly haven’t been here for a while but let me say this.

If there is one man who can represent Milan is Maldini. No one is bigger than Milan, but he surely is the most important man if the institution.

Yes he fucked up, I’ve been one of the few criticts over here, but keep destroying won’t help a all.

Precisely is the same Rino situation again.

Pathetic indeed! Another patriot is made to leave because of too much power in the wrong hand. Besides the fact that he was probably right about what he said, that’s what you get when you talking trash about your boss. In any company you get fired when you do this. There are more diplomatic ways to solve these problems or disagreements.

There is a chain of power in any company or organization. Right now, gaizidis is at the top so as wrong as it is to not consult your directors, he can negotiate without asking for their opinion or permission. The fact that Boban and Maldini are bigger names than their boss is causing such a problem.

anom
Guest
anom

True. Gazidis is a tyrant who doesn’t like his authority being questioned – even if were 100% justified.

Too bad that Gazidis is too convinced about his methods/ideas which will fail miserably and will totally destroy the club. Fans will never forgive him for selling Donnarumma in the summer for peanuts. Trust me, that will happen. He did similar things in Arsenal and will do it again in Milan.

Boban wasn’t fired because of what he said, he was fired because- like me- he thinks this Ragnarok business is a bad idea. That’s fair and all, except now we are stuck with mediocracy for god knows how long. Fuck Elliot and fuck Gaizides.

Do you have source for this claim ? Because in every news they said that he is fired because of the interview.

Baresis Dream

Baresis Dream

The source? He and Maldini stated that publicly in several occasions that Ragnick isn’t the right profile for Milan. They are in charge of determining the coach’s identity, plus Ragnick is reported to be given most responsibilities of Boban/Maldini. These two sides cannot co-exist, and so once the decision for Ragnick was made there was really no other way but to get rid of BobanMaldini. This is not a soap opera (I will give this at least to Elliot), this is pure business

Names aside, the fact is this club is being run by a bunch of incapable so called hot shot managers and their owners. This is 3rd different management in last three seasons and non of them, every each and one of them, were able to pick this club up. Every year we see managers, directors, coaches, players leave and instead of improving it only gets worse. It’s not a “year zero” this is a total blackout, a “decade zero”. Worst thing is, we finally have cash now. They spend, they buy but my god they waste!

Raven

Milan only have their fanbase and a bunch of dusty trophies, a project cannot be sustained when it’s not working because being honest to fans leads you to the exit door. Ask Seedorf, Gattuso and Boban.

What will happen if next season things don’t go as expected, what if we’re 13th on December and fans get pissed, are they going to keep paying severance packages? isn’t cheaper to let a man work? How could they be properly judged in months?

Well hopefully they suspend this season indefinitely cause if your going to lose to Genoa You might as well not play lmao. The teams you’re supposed to beat to climb the ranking you go and bottle. What an absolute joke

I was thinking the same after yesterday’s match.

Leao is a total fvcking waste of money. Worst than Niang.

Once again another horrible game by Calhanoglu. If Rebić has a bad game so does Milan.

And some, like BaresisDream, have so much to say against low salaries.

Same old story. Some things never change. Is this the right time to remind us all that Cutrone was sold so that we could get this Leao kid? One of the best transfer deals since selling Zlatan.

whats with calabria – conti sub? why not play paqueta or saelemaekers instead so leao could play as st?

Pioli was defending our 2-1 loss. He didn’t want to concede anymore goals. Smh.

Paquetá should have come on for Çalhanoğlu at start of the 2nd half. I don’t even get why Calhanoglu plays ahead of Paquetá.

Paquetá plays better passes in tight spaces. He would have been better in this game.

correctamundo mate. i very much despise his pragmatic mentality. use 4-2-3-1 vs inter or juve so milan mf wouldnt get overrun, sure but no way milan should be pragmatic vs genoa. hell, pioli’s milan even always try to defend a goal lead instead of going for jugular killing off the match as if leading 1-0 is a precious and rare occurence that needs to be preserved like javan rhino

hakan was garbage but bona actually did fairly well, and ibra was the scorer so

Yeah. Actually Bona might have been the only Milan player on the pitch that had a decent match. Not great, not even good but pretty decent. Can’t say the same about any other.

Recent chaos, lack of motivation, no supporters and Pioli’s strange subs lead to this disaster.

If gazidis wants a revolution then he should do it now. At least the new coach and director would know which players to keep

The season is already over but I highly doubt Rangnick will want to start mid season with this much chaos.

So it’s most likely he will wait until the summer. Rangnick already knows which players he will not use and that’s majority of this team.

The only players that are capable playing Rangnick system are Bennacer, Theo Hernandez, Castellijo, Romagnoli, Gabbia, Krunić and possibly Paquetà.

Everyone else will be offloaded in my opinion.

@nick my friend. I see your point. Experienced management is crucial for a base. But this will not work for a league like Serie A. Gazidis is going cheap and no experienced players with less salary cap. This youth project will work for the RB clubs, but Milan? Are you willing to wait for 5 years. Do you know how many youths RB Leipzig had to buy and sell to finally get where they are now? They had the time and they pulled it. And with this model, we let teams like Atalanta and Roma grow faster. Lazio, inter, juve,Napoli… Read more »

@ MilanEstonia. Gazidis is just following orders from Gordon Singer. Elliott Fund is a vulture fund. They do not intend to waste money on high salaries. That formula won’t work for them. Unfortunately, until Milan is sold to a wealthy owner we will have accept our faith with Elliott Fund. I believe that Maldini and Boban approach with a mixture of youth and experience is the right way to go forward. But Gattuso mentioned this and Maldini didn’t support him on it. However, Ralf Rangnick methods have worked in a short time with Hoffenheim, Schalke and RB Leipzig. It can… Read more »

From an economic perspective you’re right but why sell the best GK at his age. Do you know how many matches has he played at such a young age?

Selling Donna and it’s the final indication that Milan is destined to be a mid table team.

Nick mate, you make good points as usual. The problem is we can’t land players from weaker serie a sides (e.g. de paul) without being to compete with the salaries offered at Juve,Inter,Lazio, Rome, Fiorentina, ect … of course some sort of cap make sense, but the 2 million which was reported is way too harsh (Romag also is above that, and I’m sure more are).

If Elliot want to bring Ragnick AND spend big, I’ll be more than supportive. Unfortunately, like you say, this is most likely not the case.

lol romanista damiano tommasi, who’s now president of italian footballers association, demands suspension of serie a, precisely when lazio are fighting for scudetto. serie b, hell even primavera serie a are still going on u clown. why cant the rest of the matches be played in safe areas? u clowns didnt protest when supercoppa was held in arab. besides, which teams are gonna play in europe next season if serie a is suspended? very unfair

No way they are going to suspend Serie A, what about Juve and Napoli? That’s a lot of money to be lost.
