Vincenzo Montella has a list of targets in his heads and they mainly include his former players from Sampdoria and Fiorentina, at least according to the press.
Milan appointed Montella on Tuesday night and the new coach, who will begin the preparations for the season next Thursday at Milanello, is looking to strengthen the squad of the Rossoneri.
Montella will reportedly use 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 next year and he’s looking to add new faces to the midfield and attack.
Sky’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Milan have joined Napoli and Liverpool in the race for Poland international Piotr Zieliński (pictured). Di Marzio claims that Montella has always been a fan of the 22-year-old midfielder, who is owned by Udinese but played under Marco Giampaolo at Empoli last season. There are no talks between the sides at the moment but he seems to be of interest.
Di Marzio also links the Rossoneri to a host of players with whom Montella had worked in the past. Fernando Lucas Martins of Sampdoria as well as Roma-owned Adem Ljajic & Fiorentina’s Matias Fernandez are all said to be on Montella’s mind as he looks to build his Milan side.
Montella coached the 30-year-old Mati Fernandez and the 24-year-old Ljajic at Fiorentina. Mati, who is ‘just an idea’ for the moment, made 27 appearances for Fiorentina last season while Ljajic spent the last season on loan at Inter, scoring 4 goals in 28 matches. He’s also wanted by Miha’s Torino. Fernando meanwhile played with Montella at Samp last year; he was close to signing with Spartak Moscow, but the deal has not yet been reached and Vincenzo could bring the 24-year-old.
Di Marzio claims that there are no concrete negotiations with any of these names as of now but this could change in the future. Adriano Galliani, Montella and the Chinese will soon work on the mercato.
