ALBERTO ZACCHERONI has faith in Honda but believes Keisuke is better behind the strikers.
Honda did not impress last season after making his move from CSKA Moscow in January but he looked very comfortable last Saturday in the Trofeo TIM and he also won the Player of the Tournament Award thanks to his two very good performances in the 45-minute games against Juventus (he scored the only goal) and against Sassuolo (he assisted El Shaarawy’s goal).
The 1999 Milan Scudetto winner, Alberto Zaccheroni, was one of the people that recommended Honda to Milan. Zaccheroni was the coach of the Japan national team which Honda leads (he resigned after the World Cup) and he thinks Keisuke can do well this season.
Torres, Borini, Soldado and Mitroglou on Milan’s shortlist
Torino’s Cairo: “Milan want Cerci? I can’t wait forever”
“All those that were asked to give their opinion on Honda spoke well about him,” Zaccheroni told the Milan Channel on Tuesday. “The Milan shirt is a big responsibility and Milan need players suited to the fine tastes of their fans. Keisuke Honda has lots of personality and technique, he knows how to play as a wide player and behind the striker, he can lead others.
“I think he’s an important player for Milan. He’s just missing speed. He is quick with his execution, but not in terms of running. If he starts off a long way from goal, he doesn’t have much influence. He’s more decisive behind the strikers (as a trequartista), if the side pushes up high he can play wide on the right. If Milan play a 4-3-3 that seeks to win possession back in the middle of the pitch, then that would be perfect for Honda. He speaks a lot with the coach and wants to understand the tasks he’s been given. He started the pre-season preparations from the beginning and this will give him an advantage.
“I know Milan and Honda well enough to know that this year Honda will do well. Torres? I don’t know him personally, but I don’t think there is a player in the world who would arrive at Milanello and struggle to find the motivation to do well.”
