MASSIMILIANO ALLEGRI feels Milan deserved more against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday evening at the Philips Stadion.
Milan scored an important away goal against PSV last night but left the pitch with a sense of missed opportunity as they had chances to score more goals. Milan managed to get just one ball at the back of the net through Stephan El Shaarawy.
It took Milan a while to get in the game with PSV Eindhoven trying to surprise them with their speed, quick turns and long-distance shots but at the end of the evening possession was even and Max Allegri believes Milan could’ve done more.
Highlights: PSV Eindhoven 1-1 Milan
PSV Eindhoven-Milan: Official line-ups
“I think the team played good football, especially in the second half. We struggled at the beginning of the game, after the advantage we had a couple of chances to double the lead. We played a good game against a team that has played its sixth game of the season and is very skilful,” Allegri, who is leading Milan for the fourth season in a row, told the Milan Channel.
“In the first half we read some situations incorrectly while in the second half defensively we were good. We are disappointed not to have won. We won the ball back well in the second half, but we were too far apart in the first. I think that the San Siro on Wednesday evening will be full because we are playing in the Champions League. We will now think about the game against Verona, where we have to do well. The team has been playing well, De Jong had a foot problem and I took him off.
“Andrea Poli and Niang have done well. We knew they would be bright at the beginning of the match and we had to defend better in some situations. Early in the game they pressed well, we did not close up well and we didn’t take up our positions and they got in behind us In the second half however they failed to do that. Montolivo is a major player and is getting fitter.
“It was the first competitive match for everyone, and we had some players training alone. We are disappointed because we are commenting on a draw that could have been a victory,” the 46-years-old, former Cagliari Calcio boss, continued.

“We did not start the game well, they created some problems and we ran some risks. We scored with our first chance through Stephan then Mario hit the bar…” assistant coach Mauro Tassotti said after the match. “Then in the second half they scored with a shot which was hard to hold for Abbiati. It was impossible to think of qualifying on Tuesday.
“I think we played well and I believe that our fitness will improve. It seemed that the team was doing well, they had five big games under their belts and you could see the difference. A competitive game is very different from a friendly. Then when they got tired, the game was balanced again. Urby Emanuelson did well but found it difficult like everyone else. Emanuelson has not played in that position for a long time, but he can play there. At this level players have to run a lot.
“If we want to remain at these levels we have to get it right. We were not lucky in the draw, PSV have talented players. We got a decent result but the return will also be tough.” A lot depends on the 2nd leg against PSV, including the transfer market.

ok lets watch out then. Return leg it is.
Now you no why we need Honda and sakho
now you know why we need a coach
New Year same pique.
I think now i’m going to be a critic wen it comes to Allegri. He is too defensive minded.
I’m not an Allegri hater or lover. I am on the fence about him, but why was our midfield so defensive?? We clearly played our best football yesterday when we were attacking. Also, why is Poli not a starter in our squad. He immediately made a difference when coming on. He works hard too. SES really needs to work on taking chances more quickly. There were two chances where he really should have scored. Montolivo needs to be more selfish at times and shoot. He wasted chances as well. Boateng was better than he has been lately, but I’m not… Read more »
Its been 12 hrs since the game n ppl are hurlin abuses at Allegri…if u think about it…it actly wasnt a bad idea plyn De jong n Muntari d rsn being PSV’s game is much swifter n quicker…Mexes is still carryn xtra kilos on him…d pace of Maher, Depay cud easily catch dem on the counter..cmon it was our first competitite game n a very difficult game…xtra protection was needed v jst cudn risk it. This is my opinion. Still feel Niang in place of Boa…vl win d draw guys n yes Galliani reinforcements LIKE RIT NOWWWWW!!!FORZA MILAN ALWAYS!!
Would’ve rather had Poli, faster, can attack and can defend, as well as Niang. De Sciglio will hopefully be available for the second leg, it’s obvious how much we need him. SES looked hyped up, not dull, but dynamic, looks like his confidence might be coming back.
Hey Forza, if you are a footballer you should know that in a team, defence is very important and if your defence is good enuf, then your attack will be good. Most of every team need a good mildfield, but in this case Milan doesnt have good players, so he basically has to try to start from defence to be good then think of winning the game. Every coach has their tactics
I know defense is important. But the time wasting antics got old quick and we were just sitting back waiting a lot. The times where we actually kept pressing and attacking is when we dominated the game. When we sat back and waited is when we were actually most vulnerable.
I agree almost everything. The major reason (i think) that Boateng did a decent defensive work. But on the other hand, El Shaarawy and Balotelli ran back often too, to get balls. Not so often, but on the other hand, Boateng made some chances and key passes, but wasn’t that dangerous than the other two. My favourites were Abate, and our two strikers. Our worst performance was the left side: Emanuelson and especially Muntari. They lost almost all the balls they collected/passed. Poli shall and will start quite often, and it’s clear to me, that he could have been better… Read more »
I belive we will sign Honda, Sakho, plus I heard Ljajic agrees pre-contract with us. Hope to see these as our players. Last nite game was very difficult s expected, but we had a vital away goal, Abbiati did well, had a decent match, wat a shame dat goal. @ the San Siro, I hope we dont give away the advantage, I would like to see Poli and Niang play ahead of Muntari and Boateng, even though Muntari was superb in Eindoven. Meanwhile, we need to take every game seriously, it all starts on saturday against Hela Verona, a must… Read more »
Seriously dude, is it only NOW that you’re seeing that?
Not that Allegri likes defensive game or he’s defensive minded, there are times you need to understudy your opposition carefully.. Take for instance a Chelsea vs Barca match, would you expect chelsea to over shadow a club like Barca in ball possession? Yes, we could have done a lot more better but i guess the two team are only being careful of conceding much goals.. Like i said b4 this match, Milan will come out victorious and we shall sing a new song cos the management will definitely present to us a new gift… @Jibola, if you are reading this… Read more »
Cheers mate!
Sack Allegri!
Is dere hope 4 us i think NO
This game is very simple Kaka Milan will win at home next week. I am actually not bothered about this game bcos Milan always win, every team has their play, if you know italian football you should know that they start slow and don’t really run that much and but tactically good, maybe Milan is not the Milan we use to know but Italian dont run much, they rather slow faster opponent down to be able to play according to their own style.
We need a player who can hold on the ball behind the strikers. A real playmaker. We are dangerous only when attacking from the flanks.
So Galliani, please buy Honda (and Ljajić and Sakho).
Get rid of Antonini, Traore and Boateng. Yes, Boateng was ok last night – but he is not a type of player we need.
I would also prefer Constant over Emanuelson – had to many silly errors last night.
remember what constant did the first few matches. he was horrible! I still dont believe constant is good, but he has improved.
De Sciglio>emanuelson>constant nuff said
if abate gets injured. Desciglio could play to the right and emanuelson to the left
If De Sciglio doesn’t start every match next year…I don’t know what I’ll do.
you mean this season bro =P
The only reason the match ended in a draw was because of the inexperience of the PSV youngsters. No one who loves Milan likes to see that perfomance. If keeping Allegri till the end of his contract is right way to get rid of him for good then Berlusconi did the right decision. But one thing’s is for sure HE IS NOT MILAN MATERIAL. And if he is not Milan material he is NOT UCL MATERIAL. And I hope next time Berlusconi will be the one picking the coach AND he will be a former Milan player. Moving on. Like… Read more »
1-1 is a very good result, and we played a good game against a very good PSV. I think it is kinda silly to see all these comments about sacking Allegri, and that we must get reinforcments. El Shaarawy seemed fit, so did Poli, Boa, Mexes and some other players. Especially in the second half. I think this looks promising, and the season has yet to begin.
ok its cleary that max cant play without 2 butchers in midfield why muntati over poli…???? poli was one of our best players during pre season and now he puts him on the bench i think poli should play last night , boa was playing over niang only for defensive reasons but in the first 20 minuts we could concided 1-2 goals over boateng and abbate side alegri failed there ….he didnt get much with boa at least not in early game(defensivly speaking) ….one very big problem last night was i m not sure if that beacouse we lack of… Read more »
4 0 milan next week lol i dont no why u guys keep talking its like barce when we beat them 2 0 they went to there home and ate us…. therefore balo will have a hat trick and remember my name and say wow he was right wait and see and the other goal will be from a defender watch lol watch mexes score a header or something
forza milan,Alegri good job.
We played good football….we deserve to win!!!!
Is this a joke or what?
PSV played good atacking football, fast football nice to watch, PSV deserved to win they were better than us
I hope POLI,Niang will play form the beginning at San Siro, and Petagna in the place of Balotelli he was horrible, falling when he had the ball, when he had the ball he lost it, he shot 1 time on the post and thats all
it is silly how some people hate boateng, the guy was stunning yesterday.he started the pass that led to el shaarawy’s goal. he jux wasnt allowed to go forward by allegri. his workrate was good. why do u thing gds would av rated him higher? its bcos he was everi where. GDS neva lies
you guys should just calm down and lets enjoy the boring football we play for now.
good one allegri… another terrible match for you…
We didnt loose because we got lucky.. just that lucky, not skill, not good defense, just luck..
But thats allegri’s Milan… ugly football.. terrible matches..
allegri is our cancer..
This post gave me cancer
Wow man, are you kidding me, what were you saying 3 years ago after his first season? you were praising his name. Uncle Fester has asked Max to try a new project with him, a rebuilding one, because that is the faith the club puts in him. Thats tough on a manager, to lose your best players and your club veterans and start over with young kids. It will take some time, but any idiot can tell that were heading in the right direction, with the purchase of balo, Allegri has taken a group of kids and shaped them into… Read more »
really??????? R u happy with our perfomances in UCL??
nice!
Im not happy
You are our nuisance
Allegri is always too defensive in his tactics allowing the other team too have all the possession and pressure us easily when we have the ball he must start Poli ahead of Muntari Poli adds much movement and good passing in midfield if he do that in next match he will not be dissapointed and if we get honda and sakho we can be very serious contenders to the scudetto and quarterfinals in champions league
Sounds like Allegri’s in denial.
PSV totally outplayed us & deserved to win.
How can an inexperienced team with “inferior” players + coach dominate us?
I’m really worried about second leg.
Galliani gambled too much last season by replacing Silva & Ibra with fodder. We were lucky to scrape 3rd.
He’s gambled again by not reinforcing the squad before these play-offs.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it blows up in his bald face.
At the begining of the season match rustiness is expected as seen yesterday but the team will definately improve. Personally i believe our starting MD should be: Poli-De Jong-Montolivo. Alternatively, Muntari/Constant-Cristante-Nocerino. Boateng/Saponara for traquatiste in case of 4-3-1-2 or SES-Balo-Niang in 4-3-3.
.
we played terrible in the first half true, ande we were a bit lazy…. guess because it was our first competitive match. but the second half told a whole different story.. we clearly showed our superiority and if you look at the amount of corners we had.. and the amount of chances too… we did well in the second half and… i believe base on that display, PSV will regret going to the san siro next week…. to me, abate was the best player for milan, and emmanuelson wasn’t that bad in my opinion.. just that i rarely saw him… Read more »
i knw next one we beta dan,dis lat pray 4 gud result .4za milan.
We will win our home game. FORZA MILAN, FORZA ITALIA!!!!
Update on Traore Bakaye Traore is about to leave Milan according to his agent Olivier Yenge during an interview with Milannews this afternoon. There is that possibility Bakaye may leave Milan but at the moment we want to monitor all situations and as soon as the opportunity arises we can go. But at the moment we do not have anything concrete. Bakaye wants to play and if there is no play time guarantee at Milan, then he will leave. Certainly, in the present state of things it’s difficult to find a solution. The player’s agent conclude. Bakaye is fed up… Read more »
Send him to Russia, trade him for Honda XD
Disappointing Milan couldn’t depart Eindhoven with a victory last night, but they did leave with the advantage, in terms of away goals. The team looked decent throughout, nothing spectacular. Which makes sense seeing as how it was the first game of this season. Nevertheless, it was a good performance and we will surely close it out in Milan. Fellow Milanisti can say what they want about Allegri but personally, he has my 100% support. Huge fan of his. Sometimes you have to think defense first, then attack. Gonna be a great 2nd leg in San Siro! FORZA MILAN. VAFFANCULO RESTO.
I can’t agree with gazzetta’s ratings for the game last night. Boateng was ok, but not MOTM and he never will be when playing either on the wing or as trequartista. Abbiati – Good shot stopping, but poor handling skills. 6/10 Abate – Closed Memphis out of the game in the second half, and crossed really well. 7/10 Zapata – Solid at the back, could have reacted quicker for the goal though. 6.5/10 Mexes – Started shaky, but improved as the game went on. Should have scored, with his fresh air shot! 6.5/10 Emanuelson – Let Park get in behind… Read more »
Some people here are not reasonable at all, they were just after their own opinion. All our players are not on their best last night except Abbiati and the subs(Poli nd Niang). I don’t see reason for blaming one player, even coach, some are blaming Boateng, some says its Muntari, another person: Balotelli e.t.c. I just hope we get well prepared for the return leg. Forza Milan!
Boring, defensive, rigid etc football i can partly accept only if we were winning, but we are not. Allegri lost the scudetto to a not so brilliant juve with ibra on our side for god sake! The allegri fanboys seriously need to stop with the nonesense! I swear to God if allegri is offered a contract extension i may just have to take a break from football.
Yeah! Thats good for you OUCH, you can even do that now
I dont know what game this guy was watching, lol, i saw us get outplayed and dominated throughout the game until niang and poli were brought in. PSV could have wont that game 5-1 if their finishing was better.
Update on Sakho
Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Mamadou Sakho is leaning towards a move to AC Milan. The Frenchman is wanted by both the Serie A outfit and Liverpool but would prefer to spend a season-long loan in Milan over Merseyside.

For bigger portions of the game PSV were the better side and they deserved better. When ever they had the ball we sat back like we did against barca, and we invited the goal in doing so, plus to be honest we don’t have a gk. I don’t know why abbiati’s still first choice, what happened to perin? At some stage I thought we were getting him! But anyway that’s not so urgent. As for Allegri, I think that even he knows he’s out the door when this season ends. I’m sure Berlusconi’s working on something. I don’t ever wanna… Read more »
1. do not bash galliani for not having the budget for getting players we need, bash silvio.
2. Abbiati is way better than perin, Perin is useless LIKE FOR REAL! He’s not good at all. He could be better, but right now he is pretty useless.
gabriel is better than perin now if u said ter stegan better than abiatti no scene lol
dont really copy what you are saying. But I agree that gabriel is better than perin
I missed the nonsense of Gaushow and Cyborg.
The Blog is not fun without them.
Cyborg doenst like anything…
I just dont like Allegri and Robinho…
We dont bother about you…but about our team !
then why r u replying me?
I thought we did well considering PSV have played so many more competitive matches than us, so I can’t go too hard on Allegri. He seems to have finally realized there are better LBs out there than Constant… but on the other hand would rather play his usual bruisers over creatives. That’s not Milan and therefore Allegri is not for Milan.
We’ll you cost us the match Allegri, you and nobody else… Milan lacks killer instinct in the final third… Even Montolivo don’t shoot from outside the box anymore,Allegri you are making Milan timid!
Playing defensive in the away leg, especially the first match of the season, isn’t a bad idea. Before you start criticising him, think of the amount of clear chances we had. We were simply unfortunate and El-Shaarawy missed a few chances that he would normally bury on a good day. Just relax. Nothing bad happened so far. On the other hand, if we have a defensive line up at San Siro, in hopes of holding on to a 1-1 score, then I’ll start my criticism of Allegri. I expect a strong attacking line up in the 2nd match at home… Read more »
actually these are the classical el shaarawy chances he misses. He is still not comfortable infront of goal, need more experience.
he always misses clear chances. could have been a brace in this game.
I remember Cyborg said in Preview post that Allegri’s Milan won’t get a chance against PSV….and now when he brings a comparatively good result he blames Allegri for the draw….so immature….
I hope Robinho & De Sciglio get back for the 2nd leg at Stadio San Siro.
They will surely help Milan win the match!!!
robinho doesnt help at all… just a waste of player…
de sciglio yes! great player…
Allegri: “Milan played good football”
I don’t know Allegri’s definition of good football but what we did on Tuesday night was not ‘good football’. What PSV did in the first half was ‘good football’!!!
I haven’t bashed Allegri before, but he better start changing his ways…
no he isnt a waste of player.
he put a great goal against valencia and thr first pre season goal at milanello gaushow.
if he was a waste milan wouldnt sign him a 3 year contract! ;)
you know they did that to collect money from him next summer or next transfer window right? he was running out of contract, if they didn’t extend milan would have lost him for free, and robinho is still a valuable player. you could get atleast 10m by selling him.
sorry, but no one wants him… City was very happy to pass the bomb to our hands…
now we cant sell him…
