GENOA coach still does not understand why two big Italian teams like AC Milan and Juventus took two inexperienced coaches to lead them, as he believes this is a defeat for experienced coaches like him.
Milan made a shock move when signed their director, Leonardo, to be their coach, especially now when they see themselves running to the Serie A and Champions League title. Leonardo had a tough pre-season with Milan, but he starts to show signs of a good coach, as he has never been one before.
Also the Turin club, the Old Lady, Juventus – made a surprising when fired Claudio Ranieri who led them for two years. Instead of experienced coach, they decided to appoint someone who, like Leonardo, has never been a coach before, despite knew the work from the assistant coach position at Italy.
Genoa tactician, Gian Piero Gasperini, has revealed that he finds those moves maybe not wrong, but surly surprising, as two men who have no experienced lead two of the great teams at Italy.
“The fact that coaches without experience are on the benches of two big Italian team perplexes me, and is a defeat for experienced coaches,” he said. “I look up to both Leonardo and Ciro Ferrara, because if both Milan and Juventus have selected them, they must have their good reasons.
“I am just confused because either of them have worked in that role before.”
When asked about Barcelona coach, Josep Guardiola, who had no experienced as a coach of a senior team, and won 5 cups in one year: La Liga, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de España, UEFA Champions League: 2009, UEFA Super Cup: 2009, he said:
“He doesn’t count, because at least he had worked with and coached the Barcelona youth side, and had experience coaching.
“I don’t take anything away from Ferrara or Leonardo, as they both seem good and can obtain the results. But for me, this is a defeat for experienced coaches.”
Gasperini’s side will take on Juventus and Ciro Ferrara on Wednesday night.
