Davide Bartesaghi did not think he would make his Serie A debut today, but it was a nice surprise for me.
Milan beat Hellas Verona today 1-0 and they did it while missing Pierre Kalulu, Davide Calabria and Theo Hernández, and so 17-year-old Bartesaghi found himself as the only fullback in the squad other than Alessandro Florenzi who started the game in Pioli’s unusual 3-4-3 formation.
After 75 minutes of play, with Verona trying hard to find an equalizer, the big moment of Bartesaghi arrived as he replaced Florenzi and made his Serie A debut, playing the role of the left wing-back.
“I am still speechless now,” the player, who grew up in the Diavolo Youth Sector, told MilanTV. “More than anything, I wasn’t expecting it because at 1-0 up against Hellas Verona, on the back of the Derby defeat, that we needed to win, it was a bit of a surprise. When the Coach called me, my legs trembled from the emotion, but I came on determined and now I’m here, having made by Serie A debut.
“When I was called up to be part of the first team training camp, also then, together with my father, we got goosebumps. Obviously, it doesn’t happen to everyone. When I passed through the gates at Milanello I thought I’m here and I’ve got a chance to do it, so the opportunity is now and I need to keep it going, improving and continuing on this journey.”
