Charles De Ketelaere will try to get his career back on track at Atalanta.

After just one season in Red and Black, De Ketelaere returns to familiar colors, but this time it’s the Nerazzurri of Atalanta instead of that of Club Brugge, from which he arrived at Milan last summer for €35m.

Charles had a difficult first season in Italy, finding himself often on the bench of Pioli, and ending a campaign without any significant contribution, making just 1 assist and 0 goals.

CDK was not in the plans of Milan for the 2023/24 season and today (Wednesday) he underwent the medical at his new club and signed the contract.

“Milan can confirm that Charles De Ketelaere has joined Atalanta B.C. on loan until 30 June 2024. The Nerazzurri will retain an option to make the deal permanent. The Club would like to wish Charles all the best for the coming season,” a statement reads.

Atalanta will pay Milan €3m for the loan while their buy-out option is for €23m plus €4m of bonuses. Milan will also be entitled to 10% of a future resale. Atalanta will also cover the entire salary of the Belgian, who will team up with Gianluca Scamacca and El Bilal Touré under Gian Piero Gasperini.

It never really clicked for De Ketelaere at Milan, but at 22 years of age he still has plenty of time to prove everyone who wrote him off after one season wrong.
