Sergiño Dest has given his first interview to MilanTV.
Dest was the last signing of the summer mercato, arriving from Barcelona on loan with option to buy for €20 million.
The 21-year-old has come in to give more options for Stefano Pioli as he can play right-back, left-back and also right-winger when needed. After signing the contract yesterday, the United States international sat down for an interview with MilanTV:
“Actually everything happened really quickly, like in one day I had to make a decision really quick to change my life, to go to another club, another country, another culture… I love this Club, this is a Club I wanted to play for when I was younger and I think this is a nice step for me and a good chance to play again. I’m really glad and honored to play for this Club and I’ll give my best.”
On Serie A: “I have never really played in Italy. But of course I’ve seen some matches. It’s a different league and it’s going to be a tough league: some good opponents, we have good rivals, and we have the thing in the middle right now [the Scudetto badge] so we need to keep it and make sure that next year we still have that on the shirt.”
On his position: “I played as a winger when I was in the youth, I played as a winger and then I played some games as a fullback for Ajax. It was a good decision to put me at fullback because this is how my qualities came out, because I could go forward, I could defend, I have stamina so I can run up and won. That was the best position and it’s the best position for me. Right back and left back, just the best decision to make it to professional football in this position.”
On Milan: “Milan is coming back, they are doing really well, and they won the league of course so I feel like Milan is getting back to the level from back in the day from when I was younger, when I used to watch these players here. And I think it’s also a perfect step for me and a perfect time to get in the team and work with these players and make sure that we bring Milan back to the level they belong.”
On Kessié: “I spoke a little bit to Franck Kessié, of course he played here, and he had only positive things to say, so it was also a good feeling for me.”
On his idols: “Of course there’ve been a lot of really good players, but Ronaldinho for me the exception, he gave the joy. I just like the flair with these Brazilian players back in the day, just that group with Kaká, Ronaldinho… I was just kind of obsessed with them. I loved watching them.”
On the decision to come: “I need to get minutes for the World Cup, I need to play. Not only for the World Cup; I just always want to play. They gave me a great opportunity and I didn’t even think twice. I was like: I have to do it, I want to play and this badge is really heavy as well so it was like an easy decision to make.”
