Davide Calabria spoke about the mentality of Milan, as they beat Udinese 4-2 at San Siro tonight.

Milan won their first game of the season, beating Udinese in front of over 70,000 fans on Saturday evening to get 3 points.

The Rossoneri conceded a very early goal but managed to overturn the result, with Davide Calabria, on his first official game as Milan’s Captain, winning a penalty (scored by Theo Hernández) and then providing an assist (to Ante Rebić).

“I would say it was very important to start the season well,” Calabria told MilanTV. “I wore the Captain’s armband many times last season and it is an honor, as always. Wearing it always gives you that extra motivational boost and it’s always nice to be a good leader in the squad and helm the team in this aspect. Obviously, the most important thing was to win so it was a great game.”

On the league :“We are aware that this league is tactically really strong because all the teams are well-prepared so it’s all in the details and in games like today’s, a little mistake can complicate things. We are happy with the result and we worked hard this week in order to reach this game in the best shape possible.”

On the squad: “The mentality of this team is already consolidated and we mustn’t be distracted by the mistakes made because it happens. It shouldn’t happen and we have to improve on this. We cannot concede at the start of the game and on the stroke of half time, in moments in which we were better positioned on the field. We haven’t yet seen the replays, but we could have avoided those two goals with a little more attention. We shouldn’t be too perturbed by these mistakes; we are a strong team, who can score 5 goals in 5 minutes so we have to maintain our mentality of always taking home the three points notwithstanding the difficulties which can occur.”

On giving an assist and winning a penalty: “I’m very happy to be honest. It’s always nice to be able to score, provide an assist on win a penalty because you help the team. It’s a combination of things, what matters is the team wins and plays well. This is the beginning of a new journey, this is just the first step on a long road ahead, but I’m happy for today’s result but we still have to work hard because we can do even more this season.”
