It is now official: Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara will be here for the next two years at least.
It took longer than expected but the saga has a happy ending: Maldini and Massara continue to lead the sporting side of Milan, having found an agreement with the management.
Everything was confirmed by Maldini last night, as he told reporters that the duo extended contracts ‘at the last moment’, but the official arrived tonight:
“Milan are pleased to announce today that the Club’s Board of Directors has approved a two-year renewal deal for the services of Technical Area Director Paolo Maldini and Sport Director Frederic Massara,” a statement reads on the website this evening. “This deal highlights the importance of continuity we see throughout the Club as we continue to strengthen and grow.”
Now Maldini and Massara can begin working on the mercato. Divock Origi has signed but his arrival has not yet been officially announced, while there are also many other targets to work on.
Even though this was to be expected, the drawn out negotiations has left many fans feeling irritated by the delay in what could be classified as a no-brainer decision.
While I remain skeptical about this entire RedBird sale, I’m inclined to be optimistic about the future of the club simply because of these renewals.
