Tomori: “It’s a very precious point, we still want to push and we still want to win more games, we defended as a unit”

Fikayo Tomori was pleased with the draw against Inter, even if Milan could have won the match.

Milan hosted Inter for the Derby della Madonnina last night and after 11 minutes they found themselves 1-0 down, after Hakan Çalhanoğlu converted a penalty.

However, it took the Rossoneri 6 minutes to get things back on level terms: a Sandro Tonali free kick hit the head of Stefan de Vrij, and the center back beat his own goalkeeper. Fik Tomori was nearby and initially it looked like he was the one to have scored, and he definitely celebrated as if he did.

After the 1-1, Ciprian Tătăruşanu saved Lautaro Martínez’s penalty, and then both sides went on to missing their good chances to win the game, and so the match ended in a draw.

“It’s a very precious point, I think the most important thing for us today was not to lose and we didn’t lose – we had some chances to win at the end of the game,” Tomori told MilanTV after the match. “We were facing the Champions of Serie A so today I think we can be happy with the point; maybe on another day we win the game but we can be happy with this.”

On the moment of Milan: “Before we go away to the break I think it’s important that we had this result, we still managed to stay unbeaten which is good. Obviously we know Napoli are right there with us, so I think we can be satisfied that we are still unbeaten but we still want to do more. We still want to push, we still want to win more games and we know that if we can continue like this then at the end of the season we’ll be right at the top of the table fighting for what we want to do, which is win.”

On the defensive phase: “We had to defend really well at times, we had to put bodies on the line and we know that they have great players going forward and they made it difficult for us to defend. They didn’t score from open play which is a positive, I guess, they scored from a penalty. But I think we defended well as a unit mostly for the game and we know that against a team like this you’re always going to suffer chances, but we managed to keep them away for most of the game, they had some chances like I said, but we still managed to get the draw and we can be happy with that.”
