Milan scored six past the Serie C side of Christian Maldini, with Tommaso Pobega impressing in the second half.
Milan began pre-season 10 days ago and today they had their first friendly of the summer, taking on Serie C’s Pro Sesto at training center Milanello.
Coach Stefano Pioli was missing some players, like Franck Kessié and Pierre Kalulu (with their national teams ahead of the Olympic Games), Zlatan Ibrahimović, Davide Calabria and Alexis Saelemaekers (out with injuries), Mike Maignan, Simon Kjær, Ante Rebić and Olivier Giroud (on vacation).
Pioli fielded his usual 4-2-3-1 with Rafael Leão the striker and Samu Castillejo, Rade Krunić and Daniel Maldini behind him. Milan were attacking the defense of another Maldini, Christian – Paolo’s oldest son – who plays at Pro Sesto. It took the Rossoneri 19 minutes to find the back of the net: a great run from Theo Hernández ended with a pass to Ismaël Bennacer and the Algerian scored.
Three minutes later, Leão finished a great individual effort (which started from a Maldini pass) to score from the edge of the box. In the 38′ minute, Samu scored a great long-range shot to make it 3-0 on half time. After the 45′ minute, Pioli replaced the entire team, bringing on more youth players.
Despite changing the whole XI, the guys of Pioli kept up the good intensity and showed good energies. They hit the goal post several times before the shot of Tommaso Pobega (75′) hit the post and then hit the Pro Sesto goalkeeper to make it 4-0. Pobega had an impressive showing and was central at every attack of the Rossoneri, despite playing in the role of the defensive midfielder.
The last two goals were scored by Primavera’s Milos Kerkez, who showed that Theo is not the only left-back on the squad who can score goals. Overall a decent performance from the Diavolo.
