Milan scored six past the Serie C side of Christian Maldini, with Tommaso Pobega impressing in the second half.

Milan began pre-season 10 days ago and today they had their first friendly of the summer, taking on Serie C’s Pro Sesto at training center Milanello.

Coach Stefano Pioli was missing some players, like Franck Kessié and Pierre Kalulu (with their national teams ahead of the Olympic Games), Zlatan Ibrahimović, Davide Calabria and Alexis Saelemaekers (out with injuries), Mike Maignan, Simon Kjær, Ante Rebić and Olivier Giroud (on vacation).

Pioli fielded his usual 4-2-3-1 with Rafael Leão the striker and Samu Castillejo, Rade Krunić and Daniel Maldini behind him. Milan were attacking the defense of another Maldini, Christian – Paolo’s oldest son – who plays at Pro Sesto. It took the Rossoneri 19 minutes to find the back of the net: a great run from Theo Hernández ended with a pass to Ismaël Bennacer and the Algerian scored.

Three minutes later, Leão finished a great individual effort (which started from a Maldini pass) to score from the edge of the box. In the 38′ minute, Samu scored a great long-range shot to make it 3-0 on half time. After the 45′ minute, Pioli replaced the entire team, bringing on more youth players.

Despite changing the whole XI, the guys of Pioli kept up the good intensity and showed good energies. They hit the goal post several times before the shot of Tommaso Pobega (75′) hit the post and then hit the Pro Sesto goalkeeper to make it 4-0. Pobega had an impressive showing and was central at every attack of the Rossoneri, despite playing in the role of the defensive midfielder.

The last two goals were scored by Primavera’s Milos Kerkez, who showed that Theo is not the only left-back on the squad who can score goals. Overall a decent performance from the Diavolo.

Nice scoreline, I didn’t watch the match though but I like the fact that despite having practically a primavera squad in the 2nd half, we still got another 3 goals with a clean sheet, with lots of missed chances. I hope we keep improving. What do you guys think about leao in exchange for Luis Alberto? I personally don’t like that exchange. Alberto has 1year to go with Lazio, Romagnoli has one year to go with Milan, Tomori presently gives more guarantees than him and his salary is weigh lower. We are not planning to sell Romag, and he wants… Read more »

I also think that Romag’s contract should be settled this season even though I personally wouldn’t have a problem with him going on a free next year. My biggest concern is making him captain, when even his play as a starter isn’t guaranteed, but maybe that’s what Pioli is asserting by continuing with him as captain. Leao for Luis Alberto sounds like a big joke and I honestly hope that Milan’s management isn’t actually thinking of doing something so stupid. I can understand the need for an additional player to slot in at the AM spot and I’d even give… Read more »

Stats can be misleading my friend, if we’re gonna have a decent conversation about certain players like Leao, you have to watch him play.

I’m in for giving Leao a chance anyway, atleast not in exchange for Luis Alberto, but watching Leao play can be very frustrating, you can see so much potential in him, but playing casual.

I hope he realizes the talent he has and know that talent is never enough to remain at the top, hardwork is a virtue.

Yes, definitely stats can be misleading and that’s why I mentioned only these few because imo these are the purest form of data, what I like to call the input and output data. The xG and chance creation and key passes etc etc doesn’t necessarily contribute to the outcome of a match and therefore has very little relevance to the point I was trying to make, which is that Leao performed just as well as Mount but with less time on the pitch. Of course context can be added in relation to those goals Leao had such as did all… Read more »

I watched most of the game and I have to say that I was quite impressed with young Maldini. He made some decent passes which highlighted his vision and thus his ability to be a viable option at AM for the first team. Pobega also was a delight to watch with his strength and deep playmaking abilities. He definitely should stay and not be sold or loaned out.The kid managed to get six goals from 20 appearances with 3 off the bench for a total of 1243 mins, in a team that’s much weaker than we are. Kerkez also did… Read more »

Milan are crazy if they sell Pobega. The guy isnt just big and strong physicly but to my supprice he is an excelent passer of the ball as well. Infact he seems to pass better than Tonali and his passing is fast, he dosent hold the ball which is a big plus for creating chances. Add to that that he is two footed, very versitile, runs a lot and has an eye for goal. He assisted two and scored one. Definetly the most stand out player today. It seems that he dosent have any weakneses and he just turned 22.… Read more »

I saw some players still not ready for the first team : Robback, Colombo, Capone, Robotti. Not convincing : Hauge, Castilejo, Krunic. Should get another chance : Pobega, Caldara, Stagna, Kerkez, Maldini, Di Gesu, Conti, Gabbia (because playing as RB). The others looked okay to me.

Pioli started Krunic and Samu for firt half which is a stronger team than second half team. It makes me worried now, how Pioli keeps playing Krunic who is not LW instead of Hauge. It is quite amazed me how Pioli has huge faith on both krunic and samu.
