Meïté could play from the start against Atalanta, Pioli tried him in training in the attacking midfielder role

Soualiho Meïté may be thrown into the starting XI already tonight against Atalanta but in an advanced role.

The Rossoneri face Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta tonight at San Siro (18:00 CET) in what will surely be a very difficult match.

As reported by Sky Italia’s Peppe Di Stefano, in order to deal with Atalanta’s impressive strength and physicality, coach Pioli is considering to play new signing Meïté in the attacking midfielder role.

Meïté was brought in to play double-pivot but yesterday in training Pioli tried the 26-year-old, who arrived from Torino in this mercato, behind Zlatan Ibrahimović and alongside Samu Castillejo and Rafael Leão in attack. Soualiho is therefore a candidate for the starting position tonight.

Should Meïté play from the start, Brahim Diaz would be relegated to the bench. Hakan Çalhanoğlu is still positive for COVID-19 and he’ll miss the match.

I see people still questioning the signings.
I don’t understand this.
Do they forget that Milan still playing in 3 competitions with almost 3 games a week?
Do they forget that the world is still in pandemic, who knows who’s in the squad will get covid again? (I hope nobody will)
Do they forget that people can get injured or suspension also?

i saw meite’s performance vs juve month ago and his passing and tactical dribbling were top notch. torino mf outclassed juve’s that night and had torino kept on attacking and defended the set pieces/crossing better they would’ve won. so, meite as am? why not? him as am flanked by leao/rebic and brahim could be good solution for milan attack in hakan’s absence. regarding mercato, tomori, meite and mandzukic are fantastic signings considering the budget but when milan finally secure ucl spot they better get de paul. what a fantastic player, no wonder inter, juve and even liverpool want him. remember… Read more »

Totally agree with you, and I feel he would prefer coming to Milan if the opportunity arises. But How do you seeLuis Alberto of Lazio?? The guy is really something else you know

well, like i said last season, luis alberto, hakan, fabian ruiz, de paul and especially papu gomez are top playmakers, even though they dont always play as 3/4ista. luis alberto played so well vs roma and milan and to be perfectly honest, if it wasnt inzaghi’s weird subs (immobile and luis alberto out when the game was still 2-2) milan could’ve lost.

I would prefer diaz at RB over castillejo. Bith player are not strong physically. However Diaz could offer more in attacking’s phase, his skill is better than samu.
Meite as AM is a good choice.

I believe he/she meant to say RW not RB.

I think that it is a brilliant idea. Meite is very good with the ball at his feet and more physical than Brahim Diaz who often gets bullied off the ball by defenders.

I would love to see Leao on the RW and Rebic LW instead of Castellijo who is too weak physically. I doubt that will happen though since Rebic is returning from COVID.

I truly believe we can win this game 3-0.

If we can just get a right winger hopefully in january we would be complete. But like u said leao would do a job there I’m sure

the godfather of cutting inside from the left henry failed big time playing rw/rwb at juventus, no way leao who has very similar style could do well there. can he play there? yes. can he be successful rw on regular basis? hell no. he should always play st or lw. rebic, who actually has world cup silver medal playing rw should play rw if he must, not leao

You have a point about Rebic playing RW instead of Leao since Rebic played their for Croatia. But Leao played RW for us before in 1 game and he did well. Way better than Castellijo and he also got an assist. Also Leao is nowhere near similar to Henry. At juventus Ancelotti had better strikers to choose from which is why Henry had to play at LW. Henry would have never made it as a striker in Serie A. Even in his prime. The EPL doesn’t play a very defensive and tactical game so he had more space to run… Read more »

leao played rw once for milan this season vs genoa. he got yellow carded and milan drew 2-2. hardly playing well. leao on henry, “a little bit yes. i idolize him. i’ve seen videos of him to learn his movements as forward” – milannews. the boy himself has spoken. lol so amoruso and fonseca were better st than henry? del piero was out injured back then. and henry never played lw at juve, he played ouf position as rw/rwb. he WAS a winger/st hybrid at monaco but mainly lw. it was wenger’s vision that turned him into deadly st. and… Read more »

Milan should go for Thauvin on this transfer window.

If Marseille release him from his contract we most likely will but if not they demand a transfer fee and then it would be foolish for us to pay since we can get him for free at the end of the season.

Hopefully marseille will terminate his contract now.
