Alexis Saelemaekers spoke to MilanTV about the win over Rio Ave, coach Stefano Pioli and the national team.
Saelemaekers was bought out permanently by Milan at the start of the transfer market and over the past weeks he’s become a starter for Pioli, due to his ability to play on both wings of attack.
Alexis was important for Milan in the game on Thursday against Rio Ave as he scored the first goal of an insane night which ended with the Rossoneri qualifying for the Europa League group stage.
“This is the result of the work we’ve done during and after the lockdown,” the 21-year-old Belgian told MilanTV. “Now, I’m just happy for the coach who does so much for the team and also for all the players that are doing so much on the pitch as well.
“Pioli? He’s got faith in me, I try to pay him back on the pitch and now I feel that I’m a more important player for him, I’m happy with that.
“The national team call-up? I’ve dreamt about it since I was small, and to go and play with players like Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard, it’s a great experience for me. I’m really happy about this.
“The game against Spezia? We go there on Sunday with the confidence from the game just gone and we always need to show the same football that we’ve done recently.”
