Brahim Díaz said the win over Rio Ave was unforgettable and he knew Gigio Donnarumma would win it for Milan.

Milan advanced to the group stage of the Europa League after a grueling and incredibly intense match at Estádio dos Arcos against Rio Ave on Thursday.

After 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes, the game was sent to extra time. Rio Ave scored after one minute but Milan miraculously got a penalty in the 121 minute, converted by Hakan Çalhanoğlu and this allowed them to send the game to a shoot-out.

The shoot-out was the most gut-wrenching part of the match: each side took 12 penalties and in the end Milan came out on top with Gigio Donnarumma saving the last penalty of the match.

“Yes, the game was difficult but this evening is unforgettable,” Brahim, who came on during the half time break to replace the disappointing Samu Castillejo, told MilanTV. “Nights like this don’t happen all the time, it was a magical night and in the end we’re through and that’s what we wanted.

“The penalties? We all know Gigio is a great goalkeeper, I knew he’d save one… that he’d give us the win and he did. We did what we needed to and converted the penalties, then his save gave us the win.

“How much the group is strengthened after such a night? As I said before it was a magical night, in which the group had the strength to fight until the end and to not give up. I think we showed that on the pitch. Now, we need to try to win the games that are coming and think about Sunday.”

There wasnt much magic last night, thats for sure. Ok, it wasn`t an easy match and we have our troubles with key members of the squad not being available… BUT lets not fool ourselves; we were really bad last night. Period. We got lucky and hopefully another performance like this will not be repeated again this season.
Forza Milan!

surely he meant “magical” as in the way milan miraculously won (last seconds penalty, surviving rio’s 3 match winning penalties), not performance wise

the way brahim hugged and congratulated hakan after he scored equalizing penalty, high fived donna after he himself scored his pen and ran fastest to congratulate donna after milan won the shootout, he really wanted to win with milan. i hope last nite match created some sense of belonging so brahim will want to stay with milan permanently

Zidane won’t let him leave. Most likely we’ll try signing Pessina next season.

well, zidane lets reguilon, hakimi and james go permanently this season. loan out bale, reinier this season and odriozola, hakimi, odegaard etc last season. madrid are pretty stacked so there’s big chance that they will let brahim go permanently, although i’d prefer both teams agreeing the fee now not in near future when brahim will hopefully explode like theo
