Gianluigi Donnarumma made his first start for Milan in Serie A on October 25, 2015. Milan beat Sassuolo 2-1.

On this day four years ago, coach Siniša Mihajlović made a very bold decision, benching goalkeeper Diego Lopez and starting 16-year-old Gigio Donnarumma at Stadio San Siro against Sassuolo.

The story of Donnarumma began four years ago and since then the player has established himself as the indisputable starter at Milan and at the Italian national team, replacing the legendary Gianluigi Buffon for the Azzurri.

Donnarumma, as stated by Zvonimir Boban, has become a dressing room leader for Milan. Gigio has already made over 170 appearances with the jersey of Milan, and it all started on October 25, 2015. Mihajlović’s side beat Sassuolo 2-1 on that day, with goals from Carlos Bacca and Luiz Adriano.

Gigio’s current contract runs until 2021 and so the management will soon have to start negotiating with agent Mino Raiola regarding Donnarumma, who is the top earner at Milan with €6m per season.

Enjoy the highlights from the match and photos from Donnarumma’s debut:

Hope he stays his entire caree at AC Milan and when he eventually does end his career doesnt get the gruff treatment maldini experienced in his final game. On the other hand it would serve all parties involved good except raiola offcourse if he changed agent as he will keep causing issues to the club. A lot of negative things can be said about the previous ownership and management but i really liked mirabellis no nonesense approach towards raiola who i believe should be persona non grata in the world of football. Anyways Donnarumma is the only true star we… Read more »
