Filippo Inzaghi has spoken again about Krzysztof Piątek saying he’s sure the Polish striker will soon score again.

Since Inzaghi retired from football in 2012, 9 players have worn the #9 shirt at Milan: Alexandre Pato, Alessandro Matri, Fernando Torres, Mattia Destro, Luiz Adriano, Gianluca Lapadula, André Silva, Gonzalo Higuaín – and now, Piątek.

Krzysztof has yet to find the net while wearing this new number and the usual talk has begun about the ‘curse of the #9’.

“Let’s make it clear that the curse does not exist,” Pippo said in an interview with Monday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Piątek will soon return to scoring, without believing in superstition but instead relying only on his great strength. If the weight on my legacy holds back my successors? Let’s not joke, the legacy has nothing to do with it. What was I supposed to say? Before me world-class players in the caliber of Van Basten and Weah wore it.

“If Piątek is the one most suitable to pass the ‘Inzaghi-test’? I think that the thing that unites us is the nose for the goal, but he has his characteristics and I’m sure that with his talents he will soon return to scoring. And he’s a striker I like: he has spirit and the desire to fight.

“I said that I’d got Milanello to personally deliver the #9 shirt to Piątek to drive away the ghosts? I swear it was a simple joke. I care about Milan and I care about the striker since I was one too and I know how much it hurts to not score. It’s Matchday 2, there’s a whole league ahead of us, and Piątek will score soon and a lot. I say this and I hope for him, because he can get the satisfaction he serves, and for Milan, who should have a striker that guarantees many goals.”

We should have hired his brother as head coach. He knows exactly what he wants. Lazio squad cost €148m while Milan’s squad cost 408m! Just tells you how to manage a club and be among top 4. They also play better football. If Simone Inzaghi had our budget for squad he would definitely make it to top 4…
