Matteo Gabbia said ‘playing with these great players is wonderful’ after completing 90 minutes in the friendly against Bayern Munich.
Milan were without Mattia Caldara, Alessio Romagnoli and Mateo Musacchio for last night’s friendly against Bayern Munich (1-0 loss), and so coach Giampaolo used Matteo Gabbia and Ivan Strinić as center backs for the whole game.
It was Strinić’s first game since last year’s World Cup as he was out for the entirely of the 2018/19 campaign due to physical problems. As for Gabbia, 19, it was a good chance to show his quality in a first-team Milan jersey after playing for years in the youth sector and impressing in the U20 World Cup with Italy earlier this summer. Gabbia was one of the best performers for the Rossoneri and he left a good impression.
“My performance? Yes, I’m very happy for the opportunity the coach gave me, and for the support from my teammates like Strinić and the rest, they are helping me a lot and this fills me with joy,” Gabbia told MilanTV. “I’m disappointed about the result, but I’m sure we will have time to analyze this game thoroughly. The coach will surely find positives we can build on for the future.
“If I feel ready for Milan? I want to keep my feet on the ground, I’m serene. Bayern Munich have quality players, but the same is valid for us at Milan, I’m honored to train with my teammates. Playing with these great players is wonderful. Giampaolo said that I need to keep up the good work? I will always be committed because it’s my best quality, I always want to improve.
“This is made possible thanks to Milanello, the staff and all those who assist us every day. I’m very happy for coach Giampaolo’s comments and I will try to do even better.”

Very composed performance by the young CB. Definitely will be a revelation if given chances in the first team.
Very happy for him! Looked solid. Can be ideal pair with Romagnolli.
good but a partner for Roma is an overstatement and we need a partner for our captain until the end of Mercato.
I really like the idea of Paqueta-Bennacer-Kessie trio and with Bona, Biglia as subs. we’ll need another sub someone who can sub Kessie, someone like Lobotka. anywat, imo we can use Chalha for Upamecano who will really be an amzing partner for Romagnoli.
I think Krunic is the sub for Kessie. Also, if you put Paquetá on the 3-man line of the midfield and sell Hakan, who the hell will play in the trequartista role? Maldini? He’s clearly not ready. Suso? Most likely will be sold, exactly because he can’t play there. So who then? Samu? Borini? I mean, the midfield is set, imo (maybe another prospect could be brought in, and I like the ideia os Zaracho, who reminds me a lot of Paquetá). Same for the defense, after seeing Gabbia play last night. I expect Roma and a fresh Caldara to… Read more »
