Gianluigi Donnarumma has stated ‘the first day of training is always a flurry of emotions’ and said ‘we can focus on returning to the Champions League’ with no Europa League to play this season.
Milan have already gone through two days of training with coach Marco Giampaolo as they are at work ahead of the new season.
While the players are working at Milanello, the directors are working at Casa Milan and they have to make more sales and signings. One of the players who seemed destined to leave is Gigio Donnarumma but things appear to have changed and for the moment the goalkeeper is going to stay.
“The get-together on Monday? I arrived earlier than expected in order to be ready today and to begin the training camp with the rest of the team. I was upset to have left the field early at Stadio Ferrara [against SPAL due to injury] but I’m eager to begin the new season. The first day of training is always a flurry of emotions, it almost seems like it’s my first day, it always feels like my first time at Milanello and I’m excited. I’m keen to begin training and give my all.
“The new season? We have to give our best in order to return to where we deserve to be, which is in Europe. It is upsetting that we won’t be in Europe this year but as our coach and directors have said, we can now focus on returning to the Champions League, where the club deserves to be. The end of last season? We were qualified for the Champions League with just 10 minutes to go but we all know how it ended. We were all disappointed but it has to be a boost for us to achieve our goal this year.
“My growth? I’m more mature even though I’m just 20 years old, but I feel more like a man now, which is also thanks to Milan, and I feel the same way on the pitch. I have greatly improved in many aspects but I still have to improve a lot because it is never enough, you always have to give your best in every training session in order to constantly improve.”
