Gustavo Gómez will be staying at Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras as the Brazilians have reportedly used their option to extend the player’s loan deal.

Milan sent Gustavo Gómez to Palmeiras last August on loan, with an option given to the Verdão to extend the loan. As reported by Fox Sports Brazil, Palmeiras have decided to use this option.

The expectation was that Palmeiras would immediately buy Gomez after the player finished his duties with Paraguay in the Copa América, but due to bureaucratic reasons, it was decided to prolong the loan instead.

Milan received €1.5m for the initial loan of Gómez and it is reported that Palmeiras will pay €1.5m again to extend the loan until January 2020. Should the Brazilian side buy-out Gustavo at the end of the loan, they’d have to pay €3m, thus allowing Milan to pocket €6m in total from the player.

Gómez found success during his time at Palmeiras and he helped them finish 1st in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 2018. The Rossoneri meanwhile, are on the market for a new center back.

So, why are Milan looking for a CB while they have Gomez who is successful with his loan duty in Palmeiras? Does it become a side income to management from selling players?
