Krunić set to join Milan from Empoli for €8 million plus bonuses, the midfielder will sign a four-year contract

Rade Krunić will be the first signing of the summer as Milan have completed the surprise acquisition today.

It came out of virtually nowhere but the first signing of the new Milan – the Milan of Paolo Maldini, Zvonimir Boban and Marco Giampaolo – is already here, and it is Empoli’s Rade Krunić.

“Krunić will play for Milan next season,” Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi told Calciomercato.com this evening. “We’ll close the deal for €8m.”

According to Sky, the Diavolo moved quickly to close the deal and beat Torino to the signature of the midfielder, who got relegated with Empoli in the 2018/19 season. Empoli confirmed that the fee is €8m plus €2m bonuses, the player will sign a four-year contract after undergoing his medical.

Sky claims that Milan followed Krunić closely during the last season and Giampaolo, who had already trained Rade in the past during his time at Empoli, approved the signing. Boban also endorsed this signing, and even though he’s still not officially a part of the club yet, he played his part in getting the Bosnia and Herzegovina man. The documents have been signed and everything is set.

Empoli’s sporting director, Pietro Accardi, spoke to Milannews.it, confirming everything: “Krunić to Milan for €8m plus bonuses. We had been working under the radar for some time, Milan were following him all year and after the last few games he fully convinced Milan’s directors to take him. For us it’s a very important operation because agreeing on a player with such great clubs honors us, and makes us understand that we’ve worked well at Empoli. If the operation was conducted by Maldini? Yes, in these hours.”

Krunić, 25, played 33 Serie A games last season, making 6 assists and scoring 5 goals in the process. He will give Giampaolo more options in midfield, as the Diavolo are working on building the squad.

Everton Soares doesn’t fit into Giampaolo 4312 formation. If Milan was still using a 433 formation then buying Everton Soares would make sense. So we can move on from most of the players that we were linked to under Leonardo. Milan will most likely look at players like Lucas Torreira, Sensi, Barella, Baselli, Keita Balde, Andersen, Praet, Dejan Lovren, Christian Kouame, Tonali, Luca Pellegrini. Inter will not redeem Keita Balde fee and I hope Milan get him because his best season at Lazio was when he played as a 2nd striker. He would be a good striker to play alongside… Read more »

Don’t be ridiculous. Messi couldn’t save Barcelona from being eliminated from the UCL by eventual champions Liverpool. Does that make Messi a bad footballer with no talent? Gattuso is certainly the main reason for it? Some of his decisions are inexcusable and they are on his shoulders.
A single player however can’t be a scapegoat for an entire teams performance over the course of a full season? Yes a player can cost you a game or dropped points here and there by making a mistake but not a failour season by himself

After we fail miserably again we will blame FFP. This is not about coach and players, this is about a management that only care to make a small profit and sell.

Juve Napoli and Inter will be surely at the podium, Roma Lazio Atalanta for that 4th role and we are the ones who will sell their stars only to replace them with modest players.

What’s all the hate about? Signing Krunić for a lousy €8m is good business as a starting point to replacing 3 totally worthless midfield players who’ve not played for us and cost a fortune in our wage bill Why condemn Krunić before he even starts with us? He’s not a marquee signing but he’s also not actually that bad, in fact he’s a pretty solid player and just because he’s signed from Empoli and not Barcelona doesn’t matter….. Look at the team Conte is building. We wanted Sensi, Tonalli not a guy with one season of Serial A under his belt. We’re not even asking SMS just a better player than Kessie Calhanolgu and Biglia and that is not hard to find under 20m.

We have Calhanoglu Kessie Bonaventura Biglia and Paqueta for 4 spots in the midfield what we needed is an improvement not a bench player.

So, the Gazidis-Elliot plan is, balance the books, buy average men and hope for the best? If Gattuso was so bad then keep the squad as we missed CL for 3 points, buy some depth player and maybe one guy who can improve us. A sanction from UEFA ia better than becoming a feeder club. I hope this signing represents this approach. What bothers me is thet fact that we’re missing experienced men, who would have thought of Quagliarella would beat Ronaldo in performance? Like maybe he explodes under giampaolo, or maybe he’s a good player coming off the bench. But we don’t have money for someone like this. We’ve been linked with barella and torreira. I hope we can get torreira, barella is a good talent but torreira is a little beast.

Decent player, won’t do much for the team though. Veretout or Bennacer, who we’ve been linked to, are better players. Regardless of what people are saying here, this signing will have very little impact on improving the quality of our team. He’s here to be a rotation player. Ultimately, we need to do better. We’ve had terrible midfielders that lack quality for years now, we need to correct that this window.

that’s up to the coach. I was skeptical, but I think that if Milan keeps the bulk of it’s players, throw away most of the dead weight, and buy a few more key back ups, we can shock Serie A.
If Milan learns how to score goals, then we can actually easily make a top 4 push.
Hopefully the new coach and his love for attacking football may do the trick.

Pirlo and Gattuso weren’t star players before joining Milan. They became world class stars at Milan. The reason why they became world class is because Ancelotti played them in the position and formation that got the best out of them.

And for those of you who bashing Giampaolo, just remember that Ancelotti was a failure at Juventus as he lost the Serie A title on the final day and got dumped out of the CL by eventual champions Man United.

Ancelotti became a world class coach at Milan the same with Massimiliano Allegri. Let that sink in your head.

Good signing…. Atalanta had no Star player but they r in the UCL….that proves, we need utility players for next season not so called big signing…..
1.If we play 4312, then we should offer Suso for Berella, not Crutone(he has a bright future).
2.If Conti is not 100% fit, then exchange him with Atalanta’s RB Castagne as Calabria’s backup
3.exchange Laxalt+Samu n brimg a good LB as Rodrigues backup. coz 4312 formation demands quality m depth in LB n RB positions
4.Bringing Berella,Sensi,Torreira, two good backup fullback n one of Anderson/Manchini/Lovren would be awesome for the next season

Please explain me why you think Suso would actually want to join cagliari as it would be step in the wrong direction for him and besides of that theres also the question of how they would pay his wages. Simply never gonna happen as im sure you realize that we pay a lot more in wages than they will ever do and if media reports has any truth to them then Suso has been demanding a hefty raise recently. Sorry but I can’t stop laughing on this.

First, Suso would not accept Cagliari, period. Yes the club can put the player they don’t want to the sidelines -like monty case- but you can NOT just push player to accept transfer move that againts their will because contract is simply MUTUAL understanding. You breach it, then you have to face the law.

Secondly, Castagne and Mancini will play in UCL with Atalanta, it would be stupid move for them to change club now, especially ones that only play in UEL.

Just saw some videos of his (dated months ago, meaning they were made before the transfer rumour). He is used to do something that most of our midfielders are reluctant to do: penetrating the opponent’s defence. The team was really missing that element when Jack and Paqueta were absent.

Also, I do not understand the Sensi situation, it was told he will cost Milan only 13 millions considering they have to pay obligatory 12 millions for Locatelli. Now they demand 35 millions for Sensi. Or if Milan decided for direct cash to boost FFP status since Locatelli is youth product…
