Rade Krunić will be the first signing of the summer as Milan have completed the surprise acquisition today.
It came out of virtually nowhere but the first signing of the new Milan – the Milan of Paolo Maldini, Zvonimir Boban and Marco Giampaolo – is already here, and it is Empoli’s Rade Krunić.
“Krunić will play for Milan next season,” Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi told Calciomercato.com this evening. “We’ll close the deal for €8m.”
According to Sky, the Diavolo moved quickly to close the deal and beat Torino to the signature of the midfielder, who got relegated with Empoli in the 2018/19 season. Empoli confirmed that the fee is €8m plus €2m bonuses, the player will sign a four-year contract after undergoing his medical.
Sky claims that Milan followed Krunić closely during the last season and Giampaolo, who had already trained Rade in the past during his time at Empoli, approved the signing. Boban also endorsed this signing, and even though he’s still not officially a part of the club yet, he played his part in getting the Bosnia and Herzegovina man. The documents have been signed and everything is set.
Empoli’s sporting director, Pietro Accardi, spoke to Milannews.it, confirming everything: “Krunić to Milan for €8m plus bonuses. We had been working under the radar for some time, Milan were following him all year and after the last few games he fully convinced Milan’s directors to take him. For us it’s a very important operation because agreeing on a player with such great clubs honors us, and makes us understand that we’ve worked well at Empoli. If the operation was conducted by Maldini? Yes, in these hours.”
Krunić, 25, played 33 Serie A games last season, making 6 assists and scoring 5 goals in the process. He will give Giampaolo more options in midfield, as the Diavolo are working on building the squad.
