Nikola Kalinić is on the verge of completing a move to Atletico Madrid on loan with option or obligation to buy.

The men who bought Kalinić last summer are all gone and now the Croatian is on the way out, as the talks between Milan and Atletico are moving a very positive direction and the deal is almost done.

According to Alfredo Pedullà of Sportitalia, Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport and Pietro Balzano Prota ‏of RadioRossonera, Kalinić is ‘one step’ from joining the squad of Cholo Simeone.

With Kevin Gameiro ready to move to Valencia, a spot opens up at Atletico and it will be filled by the 30-year-old striker, who managed to score just 6 goals in all competitions for Milan. The whole deal is believed to be worth €20m, with Atletico paying €2m for the loan and €18m for the buy-out.

It’s clear at this point however, whether it will be a right to buy or an obligation. In any case, Kalinić is leaving Milan, and after the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain, there was really no need to keep him.

I hope he’s successful in Spain, I know his time at Milan wasn’t the most successful, but the abuse he took from fans was painful to see. Still, he’s a talented player, and hopefully Simeone can get the best out of him. Apparently after this transfer Milan will try to sign Bernard, who I think would be a great backup. It would also let us spend more for a midfielder, and rumors suggest that we’re willing to invest a lot in that position.

Great start to the week at work with this news. Just another winger and we are all set for Serie A season. I cannot wait for the season to start.

Dortmund getting Witsel for 20 million, do not why we didn’t go after him. Doesn’t not matter whether we have world class players at the back and forward but with a poor mid trio like that we not going nowhere and wont challenge the title either. Rumors that we are going for Savic. That is good but we need more a different type of player that controls the tempo of the game. We have not had this type since Pirlo. If we had the money or if Leonardo still have some tricks in his sleeve, Thiago Alcantara would be a… Read more »

Not a bad striker just that Gattuso is a bit rigid as a coach, he style was not suitable. Good luck!

I myself havent been the nicest of people towards him, but I still feel sorry for him that his Milan adventure ended up the way it did, considering he and his family are all Milanisti. He didn’t have the best of environments when he joined – can be said of all the new players – but he did still get his fair amount of chances, even with Rino. Nice to see that we can still recoup a lot of the transfer fee, it makes sense that we cant get the 25 million back after the season he had. This is… Read more »

@Milanista121 – The reason the coach play them is so that they can increase their value. This is usually a decision from the top and not the coach. That way they can sell them and recoup some of, if not all of the transfer money they paid or more if they play well especially in big games. Sometimes their appearance is tied to a bonus and some contracts might stipulate a certain amount of appearances that the club must fulfill as part of the contract obligation. So unless they are injured they will most likely have to play like Kalinic.… Read more »

You’re right. We can’t get the 25m but at 20m we are at break even for Kalinic, we make no loss (at least according to ffp) and we free 3.5m per yr in wages. That’s as good as it can get.

It’s hard to believe Atletico would take him but as the saying go’s “one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure”
Nice bit of money for him too
Good deal all round

Would be bad move to change gattuso with his arrival we improved a lot. With upgraded team will only be better.. If he doesnt get results then change will come! If we manage to get nice midfielder and bernard on wing we will have strong first team with good depth, either for rotation or substitute when things dont go our way

Did I Hear Someone Say “gattuso Is A Bit Rigid As A Coach” As An Excuse For His Failure? Did He Do Any Better Under Montella? Or With Dalic?….. Maybe Gattuso Should Have Helped Him Kick The Ball Into The Net All The While He Squandered Them!

I see the mediocre season coming to an end in Milan. Once we can weed out the few left (Montolivo, Antonelli) etc.. I see milan returning to its glory days. We embraced mediocrity for too long it almost became a part of us. No thanks to Galliani in his last years at milan.

Offtopic:

Leonardo stated on today’s press conference their intention to bring another legend back to the club – Kaka

Kaka himslef expeessed desire to return in a management role and Leonardo will meet him in September to discuss possibility of him coming back

Elliott has managed to restructure the club management hierarchy in a month since they took over, bringing back the likes of Leonardo, Maldini and now possibly Kaka

That’s crazy! The eternals of this club are finally coming back as they deserve!

Forza Milan!

This is why I am aften concerned when Milan are looking to pay big money for old players with no great profile. Biglia also comes to mind. I mean 17m for a 31y old player with only a year remaining in his contract is massive. It’s not like people were not against the moves since in the beginning. When signing an old player then should either be a champion and needed like Higuain or don’t pay crazy money. They can sometimes be of a bigger gamble when high sums are involved because once they go wrong, they lose so much… Read more »

Kalinic was a big mistake, dont get me wrong his a talented forward but he was our backup target after we missed out on sanchez and morata. He was requested by Montella and after his sacking was never part of Gattuso’s plans. Hope he rediscovers his form under Simione. As for us we will incur a slight loss but given its loan deal with obligation to buy i think we will get 18-20m which is still good money but we lose 5m. If we can find agreement with Villareal for Bacca for 12m then higuine would only cost us 20m… Read more »

I hope Milan are able to sell players and not loan as they could return next yr and every yr after loan and leave for free eventually. I hope they can sell Bacca and some others which will also help with FFP rules.

Also I hope medical staff can keep players fit and not have so many first team players injured. Forza Milan. Missing the Adidas jersey but if will qualify for UCL for next few seasons, then sponsorship monry will roll in.
