Alessio Romagnoli is overall happy with how the ICC went for Milan and calls Gonzalo Higuain ‘a phenomenon’.
Milan beat Barcelona last night 1-0 thanks to a 92′ minute goal from Andre Silva, but the Rossoneri struggled a great deal against the Spanish champion and were second best against a Barca side that consisted of a lot of reserves and youth.
The Diavolo now return from the United States with a single win from three matches, and they will continue their preparations to the new season at Milanello.
“I think we can be pleased with how we played in these three games in the ICC against three strong teams,” Romagnoli told reporters. “Of course we have to improve but we’re happy to have played here. It’s great to play these games. Now we have Real Madrid and then we’ll be ready for the league.
“Defensive improvements? We work a lot on the defense, I think it’s nice to face such strong teams. We played against Barca reserves but still, we didn’t concede a goal. We struggled a bit for their possession and their game but we did well defending and then winning the match.
“Musacchio? I play very well with him, he’s a strong defender. Bonucci’s farewell [the center back returned to Juventus after just one season at Milan]? Leo is a strong player and everyone would want to play with him but he made his decision and we have players as strong [as him]. We’ll give it our all.
“Caldara [who is expected to be Romagnoli’s partner next season]? I know Mattia from the national team, so we know each other well. Higuain? He’s one of the strongest players in the world, it’s good to have him on the team. Let’s hope he keeps up the expectations. Gonzalo is a phenomenon and we’re happy to have him with us. We have to improve and aim to raise the bar this season.”
Romagnoli acted as the captain of Milan against Spurs and against Barcelona, but his appointment is still not official. It’s most likely between him and Giacomo Bonaventura.
