Donnarumma: “I will give everything for this jersey and for me it’s as if nothing happened, I have always been myself”

Gianluigi Donnarumma has dedicated the 2-0 at San Siro win against Craiova to his family and says the two clean sheets are thanks to his teammates.

Donnarumma was already on the way out of Milan but in the end, after annoying the leadership and the fans, he signed a four-year deal with the Rossoneri.

Yesterday the goalkeeper returned to San Siro and perhaps despite the prediction of many, the red and black fans cheered him like they used to last season and did not give him any different treatment. Gigio played an instrumental part in the 2-0 win over Craiova as his save on Alexandru Mitriță kept Milan in the lead in the first half.

“I thank the supporters for the warm welcome they showed,” Donnarumma told MilanTV. “I didn’t expect it, but I’m happy at the way they greeted me and promise I will always give everything for this jersey. The summer is forgotten? For me it’s as if nothing happened. I start like I finished last season.

“I’ve always been myself. We’ve conceded no goals thanks to two ‘miracles’ [referring to Gigio’s saves]? We are working well as a department, we want to do better than last year. The credit for the two clean sheets over two legs is down to the whole team. I thank my teammates.

“The new group? Many players have changed and it’s important now to create a bond within the group. We are listening to the coach and we are working well, keeping our head down and enjoying every victory. A special dedication? Yes, to my family who’s always been by my side. It’s all for them.

“How I manage to make myself so big in 1v1 situations? It’s all thanks to the workout of Alfredo Magni and the staff. All the things that I do on the pitch, I do because I did them well in training. When I’m alone in front of someone, I try to frighten the opponent by making myself look big.

“The love of the fans? They know I’m the first Milan fan and I’m proud to wear this shirt until the end.” Donnarumma and Milan face Real Betis for a match at Stadio Angelo Massimino on August 9th.
