Giacomo Bonaventura says Milan need to take things game by game and claims the old guard of players wants to help the new faces settle in.

Europe and Milan returned to San Siro last night as over 65k people cheered for the Rossoneri as they beat Craiova 2-0 and progressed to the playoff round of the Europa League qualification stage.

Jack Bonaventura scored the first of the night as he received the ball following a corner kick and sent it to the back of the net. The ex-Atalanta man played 81′ minute and was one of the best players with his flair and his attacking contributions.

“We have to take it one game at a time,” Bonaventura, 27-year-old, told Mediaset Premium at the end of the match. “It was a good performance, despite the extreme heat, but we did well to take the lead straight away and continued playing the ball. “The fans? I think we must earn this enthusiasm via our performances and desire to win, ensuring San Siro is packed for most home games.

“The old guard? We all want to help the side and are all at the disposal of the club. The group is fantastic, everyone is working well and I think by the end of the season everyone will have given their contribution. Competition? I do what I’ve always done, competition is good for the squad.

“There are no problems. The captain will be one of the new signings? The club wants to decide, it’s up to them.” When Bonucci and Biglia are cleared, it’ll be interesting to see where Jack will be used.

I really saddened with new mgt handing Captaincy to newly purchased player won’t do Milan good. Captaincy should be based on loyalty n good performance as it was before

With all do respect learn to be more of a team layer than being egoistic. You can still be a world class player without scoring goals or even providing many assist assists. Creating goal opportunities by intelligent management of the ball is enough. Curtesy of Modic.

Milan have drawn shkendija,favourable draw

Right after I read the title of this article (before I read the whole article), I was expecting he could be a candidate for captaincy..

Bona is one of the players who have actually earned captaincy by sticking it through the bad times with us. And he performs well enough for a first teamer. Not a mercenary and I’m sure the sqaud will back him up if there was a chance for him to be captain. It is sad that the management wants someone from the new signings to be the captain. It is not how things should be. Is the captaincy of a team like Milan so cheap that a new signing can have it? So captaincy is no longer needed to be earned?… Read more »

So our captain monto and vice captain abate are supposed to be captains from the bench? Does it make sense to make them the official captain and vice captain and on match days, the armband falls to someone else and this continues for the whole season.

When you intend to field 8 new players as first team players and none of the 8 should be captain. What do you suggest? Give the armband to Donnaruma, Romagnoli, Bonaventura or Suso? Which of this 4 looks like a captain to you?

Bona does..

How long was montalivo at milan before he got captaincy., not long at all. He also wasn’t the best and there have been better candidates. So I do not understand why all the fuss, just hope that milan win as many trophies as possible this season.

Despite not being a supporter of Monto being a captain over Abate, for the sake of argument, I will say
39 appearances.
And some very good performances in that.
How many do the new signings have?

Obinna

He was made captain at his first season

Lol.
Check your facts mate.

38 appearances for monto its just 1 season. I am sure Abate had more appearances prior to Monto and why was monto made the captain. If you are talking about seniority, abate should be the captain and monto vice captain. This already proves that seniority doesn’t matter so the new players can be captain as well

Dre milan

I have no problem with bonucci being captain and lucas being vice or visa versa…both have been captain or was next in line to be captain to clubs that have been more competitive than milan in the last 5-10 seasons, they both have strong leadership skills and many younger player already look up to them in the club and outside the club….our senior players either played along side of them on a national level or against them so they are quite known and respected. Montolivo had some good moments but lets be real he doesnt take charge of anything, his leadership did… Read more »

“It was a good performance, despite the extreme heat…” THE HEAT. Was ur godlike winning aura radiating from ur body mister master bonad10nho
Regarding Milan captaincy, in a survey by calciomercato.com, milanisti picked San bona a.k.a. Don bonanza as Milan captain. I’m not even joking

can’t wait to see bonadinho in the champions league xo he gets the recognition he deserves…..

I personally feel Bonaventura should be captain. Leads the team when they’re down, great player, experienced with very excellent character and he’s been our pillar through the banter era. He went through the banter era with us and played with so much character so he deserves that captain title.
