Alessio Romagnoli picked up an injury while playing for Italy against Germany and at this moment seems unlikely to recover in time for Sunday’s encounter.

Yet another Milan player gets injured on international duty this season as after Cristian Zapata, Matias Fernandez and Riccardo Montolivo, first choice center back Alessio Romagnoli now also finds himself on the Rossoneri treatment table after wearing the national team colors.

Alessio was given a start by coach Giampiero Ventura last night when Italy played Germany at Stadio San Siro (0-0 draw with Gianluigi Donnarumma playing in goal in the 2nd half). Romagnoli was replaced by Davide Astori on half time and Ventura later revealed that the sub happened because he was feeling pain.

The player underwent medical tests on Wednesday and the club released a statement concerning his situation: “Milan announces that Romagnoli suffered a groin injury during the match with Italy on Tuesday night. The player will undergo further medical examination in the next few days.”

There is no official word from Milan but Sky Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport are both reporting that it’s very difficult for Romagnoli to be fit for the Derby on Sunday night against Inter (20:45 CET / Italy time). The Rossoneri will do everything to get the player ready but will not risk him.

Vincenzo Montella will be forced to use one of Gustavo Gomez and Cristian Zapata to play alongside Gabriel Paletta if Romagnoli doesn’t make it to Sunday. There are still 4 days to recover, however.

A big blow!
Off topic: raiola playing games now with donnaruma, milan should really stop doing biz with that bag of beans.

Milan10

Donna says he wants to be milan’s future captain so toying with mino is one of his early tests of character. Thats the way i look at it and im sure hes staying at milan

Sheva

Just a reminder, what happened to ALL those stars who said they want to be milans captain?

Kaka, T.silva, Sheva, El92, Pato.. and now donna?

“I want to be milans captain” = 1-2 years and then exit

Milan10

The topic of discussion is not about whether milan THE CLUB want to sell donna THE PLAYER like they sold their previous players or not, its about whether donna THE PLAYER wants to stay (hopefully) at milan THE CLUB or not. Is it so hard for u to comprehend?

Milanello

Aha…. Kaka, Silva, Pato, Sheva were Milan-Player just for max. 2 years?! I think El92 is the only one who fits your statement. We cannot exclude, that Milan will sell Donnarumma, so you are right. But we have the money to hold him. And the main-reason is, he keeps playing in Milan as a number one. In Juve its not like that. If we sell, we sell it for an half stadium, like Raiola said, its worth 170 Million (lol). But in fact he is the one who want to force a transfer, not Gigio. But lets hope, juve will… Read more »

Sheva

YES! Each of them, when they made that statement, from that time to their exit have been under 2 years.

T.silva said it 1.5 years bebore. Pato 1 year before. Kaka months before he was sold, same thing with el92.

Statistics have shown, its better to keep thier mouth shut.

I don’t think it is raiola playing games. It is normal for Dona a top class player to think this way. Club”s future is critical as it is a direct link to his own future. He wants to compete in champion league and think of winning trophies. Just look at Arsenal. Failure to build a competitive squad by spending big, wenger loses his star players.

Be thankful that he has a chance to wait, if it is B&G, he would be sold to balance the book.

Ink

There is not much reason to worry yet really. He loves Milan.
Raiola probably got tired of playing with himself and started gossiping because he is bored that nobody wants to buy from him so soon after Flopba.

Sheva

You call pogba a flop after 6 months in new team in a new league? Please say this in 2 years

Ink

We don’t hesitate to rule out Bertolacci as massive flop after only a few appearances, do we?

Milanista121

You keep calling Bonaventura a flop/average etc even though he’s been our best performer for the last two seasons and counting, plus getting called up to the national side.
A lot of players over the years who have been performing for lesser sides have been flops, not providing the goods for us since joining. Bonaventura however has, and he keeps getting better. Performing out wide in a 4-4-2, a winger in 4-3-3, and now slowly getting better and better as a midfielder in 4-3-3. If this isnt a quality player, I dont know.

Kourosh

This is a major blow. One which I’m afraid we might not be able to survive from. The defense without either Romagnoli or Paletta is a total shambles.

We better pray day and night for him to make it, otherwise our chances of winning are so much lower. We couldn’t be more unlucky, as he was going through a terrific moment of form for both club and country. Maybe he played too many games too often. Such a shame if he misses Inter.

Mojdanis

If Zapata is match fit Paletta can rest too. He can cover for two in defense

Milan10

Hell, if zapata plays, donnarumma might as well leave his gloves at home and bring his ipod and comics to the game

Ink

Indeed
And Niang Bacca/Lapa Suso step aside for Zapata to make wonderful goals :D
And sadly Loca could lose the regista role to Zapata as well

So disappointing! The curse of the international break strikes again. This season he has been one of our untouchable trio along with Donnaruma and Bonaventura. Paletta, Kucka, Suso (and in a way Locatelli) aren’t far behind in terms of importance. This is why it is so vital we strengthen in January. What happens if we lose Bonaventura, or Suso. Where does our creativity come from? How great would it be if we had Paletta, Roma and someone like Musacchio to choose from as our back 2 with Gomez the 4th choice. We have a great starting 11, we can match… Read more »

If, if milan lose bonadinho, the football universe would self-implode

EzrGy

Romagnoli now is the 3rd player (after Montolivo and Antonelli) to suffer serous injury while on international duty. If this happens to a fourth player I dare say AC Milan should pull its players out of internationals!! What hurts about Roma’s case is the fact that it occured while playing a hopeless friendly, which would have seen one of the many new faces Ventura called in to test them out!

I read it’s a groin injury. I can only hope it doesn’t grow worse and end up requiring surgery, like Balotelli’s last season

angry birds

i have a big doubt about gomez!! im still hoping romagmoli can play in derby…..
oh god, why this happened before derby, what a big loss for us

Dwayne Kanas

Thanks International Break, i always hated it! let’s see what L’Aeroplanino will do to fix that problem, have faith in him guys!

Pls, add me to ac Milan WhatsApp

Milan10

Tough luck but i suppose these things happen.
I have to eat my own words though, thank god for gomez as i think he’s the best choice milan have for CB. At least for now.
Also, why TF did galli let rami go? Surely he’s not worse than jokers like zapata and mexes?

Ink

Gomez indeed would be more assuring than Zapata.
Rami wanted to go to meet some vague ”criteria” for joining national team that Deschamps had told him, to make euro squad apparently.
But Ely deserves chance I guess.

Milan10

Well, deschamps played for marseille AND juve so he’s certified jackass as far as im concerned

Ink

I wouldn’t disagree to that hehe
Too bad Rami fell for Deschamp’s tricks

King Ragnar

This is a heavy loss but i think Milan can win anyway… Let Romagnoli recover fully do not rush him

Mathijs Savicevic

Still, there are some problems about the take over with the Chinese. Now there are rumours about money laundring. Still not believing we will be sold.

I want to see it first, then I believe it.

Jibola

The rumour is only being carried by people who are disappointed at the Chinese for not letting out the names of the consortium members. The closing is a reality because apart from the funds being expected from China, the Chinese have a Plan B which is to secure a short term loan from European banks by 13th Dec JUST IN CASE an authorization to release the cash from China did not arrive on time as there are long queues.

Mathijs Savicevic

I hope you are right

Ab Johnson

Its so disapointing again and again… its been international injuries for our milan ever since d begining of dis season. Pls Roma we need u in dis match…… Forza milan

King Ragnar

I see Milan are linked with Lazio’s Keita Balde Diao in january that would be an awesome signing for Milan very fast and technical player

Jibola

This is my problem with these international games. Now we’ve lost the key to our defence and we can only hope whoever steps in would have his best game of the season. I’m scared.

Offtopic:

Who is Ladislav Krejci from Bologna that Milan are after? Is he any good? Would he be more like headless buy such as Gomez or a waste like Bertolacci? Bologna wants 8 millions…

A92

Donnaruma/Gabriel
Calabria/Abate – Rodrigo Ciao/Paletta – Romagnoli/Gomez – De Sciglio/Antonelli
