Niccolo Zanellato has signed a new contract today as his original deal was expiring next summer.

Vincenzo Montella used the Primavera midfielder in pre-season regularly and he also played against Bournemouth.

Zanellato’s contract was due to expire in 2017 but the Rossoneri decided to tie him to longer contract. “AC Milan announces that the player Niccolò Zanellato has renewed his contract with the club until 30th June 2019,” a statement on Milan’s website reads on Tuesday afternoon.

The 18-year-old will be primarily with the Primavera squad of Stefano Nava but already assured to Montella that “if he needs me he knows he can count on me.”

From what I’ve seen from him so far, I havnt been too impressed, but he is still young, and it is his first time on the big stage, I’m sure he can improve as time goes by

What i got out of this: We have somewhat learnt from our past mistakes (i hope) on giving away young talent so easily that we seem to be doing everything to keep them yet in Milan which is the right thing! yes we gave away Mastalli Darmian, Aubameyang, Saponara, El Sharaawy etc, but it’s good that we are tying down these newer younger players now rather than later and it shows that we are seriously looking towards the future! just imagine that in a few years we will have in Milan, young talented Italian youth raised players from the Primavera… Read more »

Good move. Building for future replacement in terms of aging players.

Could become a useful squad player. He’s like a weaker version of Rabiot. Definitely won’t be a world class player but as I said could become a useful player for Milan.

At least he may get better. Buying average 29 year olds who aren’t good enough and wont improve and will only get worse with no resale value is not the way forward.

I think he will be a very important player for Milan if properly managed. He has something that many of our current midfield players don’t have: confidence and guile . I think we should be patient with this guy .
