Montella: “We could have done better but it wasn’t easy, Pasalic has talent, Jose Sosa as a regista? We can try…”

Vincenzo Montella spoke about the Rossoneri’s win over Premier League’s Bournemouth in a Saturday friendly, complimenting the youth sector of Milan.

Most of the Rossoneri starters are on international duty and so in the friendly vs. Bournemouth Montella gave a start to new signings Leonel Vangioni, Mario Pasalic, Jose Sosa and Gianluca Lapadula.

All four “newbies” did fairly well but in the end “veterans” Suso and M’Baye Niang won the match for Milan. The Spaniard scored in the 65′ minute with a great shot from outside the box, but il Diavolo conceded a minute later as Lys Mousset took advantage of Gabriel Paletta and Sosa running into each other. However, Milan got their lead back in the 67′ minute with Niang earning and scoring a penalty.

Bournemouth nearly equalized at the end of the match but 16-year-old Alessandro Plizzari, who according to rumours will soon be called-up by Italy U19, made a great save to hand Milan the win.

“This was a test to improve the condition of those players who haven’t played in a long time,” Montella said to MilanTV at the end of the 2-1 victory in Dorset. “We could have done better, but it wasn’t easy. The new players we signed managed to play, but they still have to improve.

“On the second half we did better, also because on the first half we had players who were not in their usual position. Though that was my choice so we can give minutes to everyone. Pasalic? He definitely has great potential and he did well considering he only just arrived and didn’t train a lot.

“Sosa as a regista? We’ll see, he is more of a trequartista, but we can try. A lot of youngsters in the team? It’s certainly positive and it means our Youth Sector is doing well. Plizzari was very good.”

Milan finally have one of the, if not THE, best primavera in italy once again, just like good old days. Im not even joking. Teams like juve currently have better scouts but when it comes to actually producing decent talents by themselves, milan clearly have the edge.
Now its up to new mgmt to properly nurture and slowly integrate them into 1st team squad. No more aubameyangs and darmians.
Better times ahead

Totally agree, and this is what THINKING AHEAD can do for a team, when its done right… and our management at least managed to fix our youth system. They launched this youth project where they spent more money expanding our youth sector several years ago, and in the last 4-5 years we have really seen it reap the benefits. Now its up to the players to prove their worth and of course for the coach to believe in them and give them their chance.

Very true mate.
Although ur thinking ahead bit reminds me of that classic kevin bacon line in tremors, “always plan ahead, that way u dont have to do anything rite now.” Haha

Milanista121

Hahah yeah thats a classic!

Pasalic was really good considering he just got back from injury and didn’t train much with his new teammates, if he continues I hope Milan can sign him.

Good passing from Sosa but he dosen’t have defensive skills. If Milan sign a true defensive mid in Jan with passing skills who’ll play in front of defence and cover a lot of ground Milan could play with Pasalic and Sosa on sides. That would be a decent midfield then

i must say Sosa even though he was out of his regular position was still a better player than Montolivo. He played Monto’s role probably the way Monto is to play it and then some. Above all the new signings did well as well as the youth players. The only problem i had was the fact that they would play the ball from the back and that can be a down fall, for example they will control and have possession in the middle and then pass back to the defenders who at this time are either far too spaced out… Read more »

From what I saw, if we get a pure ball winner to play in montolivos place (de-Jong 🙁 where are you when we need you?), we can risk playing One of those new playmakers we signed alongside Kucka without fear of defensive vulnerability. Also, is Zapata still around?

Dwayne Kanas

i can’t to see another line up without Montolivo again, hope it happens soon again!

Zapata is still injured
