Diego Lopez is returning to Spain and will play as Espanyol’s goalkeeper this season.

The ex-Real Madrid man was dropped to the bench last season with 17-year-old keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma taking his spot between the goal posts.

Lopez was widely expected to leave Milan this summer but a move only happened now, roughly an hour before the end of the transfer window, as La Liga’s RCD Espanyol confirmed the transfer.

“The goalkeeper joins the white and blue club from Milan until the end of the season. The transfer does not include a buy-out option,” a statement on the site of the Spanish club reads, announcing the arrival of the 34-year-old.

Although not reported, it’d be logical to assume that Milan will pay a part of Lopez’s €2.5m salary. His deal with Milan runs until 2018. Gabriel will stay at Milan to act as a second-choice goalie.

Well then, have a nice stint.

This is fine example of Galliani’s business; we had all summer to sell D.Lopez because we’re talking about really good keeper that has to generate some buzz & get rid of his high wages, but we wait until transfer window shuts and than hand him on loan where we’re going to end up paying most of his wages. I have nothing against Lopez; real professional, hopefully he’ll find much deserved minutes and show once again his class!!!

hopefully we will be run one day
from some ambitios proud people
as older bg got as more they lost the essential connection to be a milanisti
this useless no clue without a plan minus ambitios transfers must come to and end
it is getting more and more shamefull for us to breath red and black
never loved and supported this privatization stuff
but god it got im realy happy milan is sold
just to have again some hope for our club

Rosso138

Well.. its something.. but our midfield?? Pls help us!!

Hachim

Wow, should have sold him instead of loaning him. I know a few clubs in the EPL who would have taken him [Sunderland desperate for one right now].
On the plus, I am glad for him. To be honest the way he was treated was cruel. So hopefully he will get a lot of game time and prove his worth again. Honestly a top class keeper!

Galliani say that if one player leave, one player will come in. So, Who will coming after verghara, mauri and d.lopez out? Nothing.. Well f****, always just hope and dreaming. Sad fact

One blessing in disguise about this transfer is that Gabriel will be considered as 2nd chioce GK and will get some chance in coppa italia.

Milan4ever

I dont get it. Why loaned him and still paid for his salary instead sell him? Galliani methods always unthinkable

We’re probably the only club in the world who would loan out a 34yr old
