Mateo Musacchio will reportedly wait for Milan to raise funds for him until the end of the day and if they don’t then he’ll consider other offers.
It is well known that Vincenzo Montella and Adriano Galliani’s number one target for the defense is Villarreal’s Mateo Musacchio and an agreement with the player was already reached a while ago.
However, Milan are unable to close the deal with the Spanish club due to the very simple reason that they don’t have any money right now. To have funds available, Milan will either have to sell players (primarily Carlos Bacca, who already rejected West Ham) or have the preliminary with the Chinese signed (provided that they do actually transfer Milan money for the mercato).
But Bacca is still here (will return to training today) and the fact is that the preliminary will not be signed at least until next week, so the mercato remains stuck. And according to Gazzetta dello Sport’s Wednesday edition, Musacchio has informed Milan that he will only wait for them until tonight.
If Mateo learns that Milan don’t have the money for him then, the sports daily suggests, he will start listening to offers from other clubs both in Serie A and in other leagues. The Rossoneri are definitely not strangers to seeing their targets go to other clubs and it can happen again.
The 25-year-old center back is one of the top targets of Milan along with Piotr Zielinski who is also wanted by Liverpool. Milan are also linked with Jose Sosa from Besiktas and Clement Grenier of Lyon.

I don’t trust Gazzetta, but this seems very possible. Milan could lose out on Zielniski, Pjaca, Mussachio, Sosa all in one campaign. A few years ago, these players would have been dying to join Milan. Also what is taking so long with the Chinese? Somethings seem very unusual, so many unexpected delays. I reckon Kovacic. Zieliński also got pace with some good dribbling skills but less passing vision and maturity to Kovacic I would like both if possible however. Regarding Mustafi/Mussachio, I think we should generally look at a player’s talent first then the rest.. Unless you know that Mustafi would offer more based on your own opinion of course I think being younger, Italian ,cheaper Etc should come next. You can’t blame him for it either to be honest. All players need a proper pre-season, especially when it comes to a joining a new team and/or league. And even more especially when it comes to an injury prone player like him, so he can prevent injuries.
Out of all the centre backs out there, based on potential, he seems like the best candidate… so I do hope we get him.
