Boban: “Milan are maturing, you can’t bet on Kaka for next year”

ZVONIMIR BOBAN believes Milan will be better off without the Europa League next season and praised some men.

Milan’s worst period of the season has been followed by their best as after four straight defeats they’ve managed to get four consecutive wins (with a draw against Lazio separating the two sequences) and they are now in 8th place in the league.

Clarence Seedorf admitted that reaching the Europa League is an assignment given to him from Adriano Galliani as Milan want the money from the European competitions, but Zvonimir Boban thinks it’ll be better if Milan don’t participate in the EL.

Seedorf: “I’m pleased with Milan’s spirit, we need to improve”
Montolivo: “No more slip ups, we have to win every game”

“I don’t think that Milan will go on to buy first-class big players for the next season,” Boban said. “The Europa League? Seedorf will have more time, less pressure and less injuries without having the Europa League next year. In my opinion, if Milan were to play with the current squad in the Europa League next year, they wouldn’t be able to get to the UCL again.

“The match with Catania? In Genoa Milan had played for about 20 minutes but against Catania, apart from runs from Kaka and Taarabt and some things from Balotelli there was nothing. The desire to sacrifice, however, is there and the character of the team is maturing. In regards to the individuals, Riccardo Montolivo scored a great goal and played a great game.

“Philippe Mexes has been unprofessional and unserious apart from the last month and a half. When he is, he’s a player that understands football and knows how to behave well in defense. Nigel De Jong is giving so much to Milan and like Montolivo he’s important, he keeps his position well and steals balls. Adel Taarabt? He has instinct and physical strength. He has something more to the usual technique. Kaka? You can’t bet on him for next season. Physically he’s not the strong enough to give the contribution that an athlete with his name should give.” Kaka can leave to join an MLS team this summer.

Boban has been highly critical of Milan all season but in the last weeks, the work of Clarence Seedorf, who replaced Max Allegri in January, is starting to pay off. There are five more games until the end of the season, 15 more points to win.

Forza Milan

Very very good point, but wouldn’t this affect the decision of star players like balotelli, el sha …who want European football as well as bankers ready to pay hefty transfer fees ? Besides Id love to see kaka lift something before his exit. So no I want Europa league next season.

Pa ibra

europa is not the only thing he can lift though. scudetto and coppa will also be there for him to lift. but of course we need to chase that europa spot!! play that europa league! and win that europa trophy!!

pippo

Not to mention that Europa league can be used as a good test for our younger players to gain experience and show how good they really are.

Milanista121

And also, the winner of the Europa League gets to qualify for the Champions League. I think it’s a little embarassing for a team like Milan to play in Europa League, however, there is money in it so, if we do in fact qualify then why not give it a shot.

yourBoss

He s speakin the fact especialy about Kaka. Ricky s a great profesional but not a such great player now. Milan r havin better options for his role,or need to buy a better player there. I dnt want to see Kaka as a started next season.

I think Boban’s right, if a little harsh. I really only saw one or two games where Mexes really said “screw it.” And that was after we we were losing every game, so I can somewhat understand that frustration. Beyond that, I didn’t see unprofessionalism. but other than that Boban was pretty spot on. I think qualifying for the EL and then bowing out early would be best. Playing both the EL and Serie A would stretch us way too far. Unless we play our kiddies in the EL lol which would be acceptable to me, but maybe not for… Read more »

I understand players wanting European competition, but I doubt they wanna lose games in the league because they’re too tired from the Thursday games. It’s all a great idea until they get injured or end up in 11th place again. And as much as I’d love to see Kaka raise another trophy for us, I’d love to start building a new squad rather than trying to recapture the old times. I’m glad he came back, but I think we should go a different route.

I definitely donot want Europa league. Management and also some fans always going for short term glory. What if Milan miss out on CL next year too

nattimalta

Wonderful gesture by our fans towards Liverpool. Boban is right, we cannot rely on Kaka or Balotelli next year. We have to be a team that plays practically the same when one player is out injured or suspended meaning we need to have good enough players to sub off anyone who cannot play I saw Juventus vs Lyon, regarding this topic, Kaka’s replacement was said to be maybe Gomez (ex Bologna) but in my opinion after watching the EL game between these two, Lacazette would fit in perfectly. Very quick tempo and bearly misplaces a pass. Caused Juve problems all… Read more »

Urby leaves for free this summer… And would you really spend 8M on Matri or 6M on Robinho!?!?!

N3G

All the players you want to sell are really not worth that kind of money. I agree that they should be sold, except maybe Niang because he is still very young. Except for Abate and Niang, you would probably get only half of what you mentioned for those players, especially because other clubs know Milan are trying to offload players and need money. – Amelia 1M – Muntari 3-4M – Constant 2-3M – Urby 2-3M – Matri, 4-5M – Niang? He is still very young, extend his loan deal and judge again after next season – Silvestre back to Inter,… Read more »

Buban,i share your thought,we will be better of without europa league next season, and for kaka’ in as much as he remains my most loved milan player ever,i think he should be allowed to activate d clause and go to USA,so dat honda can take his place with taraabt and el sha on the flanks, and saponara a back up to honda.

Pa ibra

i know europa may complicate our domestic form but that would be expected if we actually qaulifys. what will not be expected is milan not trying hard enough just becase they dont mind europa. you need a target for motivation to win and i think management are right to target the only thing left to be targeted.
and on personal terms, i’d rather watch milan on thursday nights than watching nothing or parma-valencia. besides, europa is also a competition with an european trophy.

cocor

Boban is right, just like i always told my friends Milan got no room for kaka any more. Bring some young fresh like jean Paul boetius from feyenoord

Nick

Galliani only want Milan to qualify for the Europa League only because of the revenue it will bring. That’s all Galliani care about, Milan qualifying for Europe but not winning the trophy. That’s why he has always settled for a 3rd place finish.

Can’t wait for Galliani to leave Milan. Boban is 100% correct.

i’d like us to compete in the europa league next season. It will prepare us for the UCL. The problem with italian teams is that they take the EL lightly and end up ALWAYS getting disappointed in the UCL. Look at juve, they play the UCL matches like they play against mid-table serie A teams. Thats why they always disappoint. European competitions require a different approach and the EL would sure be a good stage to get accustomed to that kind of approach. After all, if i’m not mistaken winning the EL gives automatic qualification into the following UCL. If… Read more »

rafael benitez and luis figo has recently said the same – that italian clubs should change their approach in europe. most of their tactics are how to stop opponents from play their game instead of trying to create a style and play their own game. for like a decade this has not been working for them but are still not ready to change.

Pa ibra

their national team was having the same problem with the likes of lippi and trapo who has that typical italian mind of football. prandellis team are respected for their willingness to dominate even against the great spaniards. italian clubs should learn from their national side.

ELLO

I think Boban is wrong about Kaka ..look at Totti ,DI NAtale ,Del Piero ,Maldini ..they were playing til their 40tys ..Why KAKA schouldnt make it ?? Boban is often not helping with his critism ..

Pasha

I actually think that we would be better off not making Europa League for several reasons: 1. Most important we don’t have the depth to get into Champions League especially with teams like Juventus, Inter, Roma, Fiorentina, and Napoli all getting stronger when we would have to play in two different competitions 2. There really is not that much money coming in from Europa League that would outweigh spreading our squad thin 3. I currently live in the States and got tickets to see them play Man City in summer and that would get cancelled if they have to play… Read more »

Truth hurts but all spot on. Milan needs a year off Europe especially to give Seedorf more room to develop as a coach and to build his own side for future.

EL wether u like it or not milan is there

pirlo_Ray

I don’t want any EL outin 4 next season……..i wan a stanilized team 4d upper season. come on guy’s

sendibujana

With all my respect to Boban, I disagree with him about europe league. To say that milan will fail to go through CL if they play in europe league is not a decent opinion. I think, we need to add more competitive players instead of absent from europe league next season. We need europe league not only because of some money but also experiences. Experience to prepare our players for competing in the highest level in Europe, that is in Champions League. Milan will host the final of champions league 2016 right? then we must give it all to be… Read more »

I just read a part of Andrea Pirlo’s book , ‘I THINK THEREFORE I PLAY’ on the football app and truth be told, the way he criticized Milan and how he would have joined madrid in “a heartbeat”!!! he used to be my idol, now i hate him as much as i hate Real……..go to real u ungrateful piece of s#@t

Karth

Andrea Pirlo was always an Inter fan

Hondannori

We do not need to warm up in d EL in order to win the CL, look, truth be said, qualifying for d EL would make it seem all is well, the same mistake made last season after we qualified for d CL, B&G felt we had a competitive side, meanwhile d defence was leaking like basket. Why can’t we just emulate Liverpool FC, after missing out of EUROPE, everybody came back to d drawing board, did good business, made d right signings and its no surprise where they are today. In my opinion, although I would be unhappy deep… Read more »

@N3G…Nice one

Pa ibra

italian clubs not giving their all in europa are been unfair to their nation. you’ve to represent your country well or make sure you dont qualify and give chance to smaller clubs who are likely to give their best. italians need to find a way in improving their performance in europe.

cocor

Ello maybe you didn’t know kaka when he was playing soccer

I think the positives of the Europa league outweigh the negatives. If we do make it, we should take it very seriously, but also use it as a chance to play the youngsters. Now I don’t think we should throw all the young players on the pitch at the same time, but we can use one at a time and slowly integrate them into the first team. for example we can rest Monty for cristante and if kaka needs a rest we can use saponara. Think about it, seedorf and the squad are under ALOT of pressure to win when… Read more »

Hey guys what’s with all this reports about frictions between Seedorf and Galliani. Some even say there’s a sabotage planed to get rid of Seedorf and some players are on Gallianis ship.

Now someone has to put this old bag of bones to sleep permanently. Things just got better and now he plans to sabotage everything just cause it’s not his way.

Another legend chased out of Milan… sigh… This club has become an embaras*sement, thanks to Galliani&co
