MARCOS ROJO is apparently Milan’s number one target but they will need Genoa for both Rojo and Granqvist.
Milan are looking to replace the injured Daniele Bonera (kneecap fracture – out for 70-90 days), and after the talks to sign Matias Silvestre from Inter broke down as Milan and Inter couldn’t find a deal, il Diavolo are searching for other options.
The Rossoneri decided to abandon the Silvestre option on account of Inter asking €1.5 million for the loan of the player (plus a buy-out option), while Milan didn’t agree to pay for the loan and have found themselves new summer targets.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the top targets for the defense are Genoa’s Andreas Granqvist (28) and Sporting Clube de Portugal’s Marcos Rojo (23), who is the main target. Granqvist has two offers from Russia but Sky reported last night that Milan could decide to sign him on a co-ownership deal for €2.5m; Galliani and Preziosi talked on Monday night.
Rojo is a player that is owned by Doyen sports whose President Nelio Lucas met Uncle Fester a few times reportedly to discuss Rojo and Ola John. The problem with the Argentine defender, who can play both center back and fullback, is that he doesn’t have a passport. That’s where the Milan-Genoa axis kicks in: according to Sportmediaset, Genoa and Milan could sign Rojo together with the Grifone signing him and then loaning him to Milan so he doesn’t account as a non-EU.
Milan’s last EU-spot is of course saved for Keisuke Honda who will join Milan most likely on a free transfer in January. The priorities seem to have changed with the injury of Bonera and Milan are focusing on signing another center back.
Rojo, forget Granqvist…

Galliani should never have sold Thiago Silva. We had a world class defender for 5 years. If we’d sold all the fodder plus wages we’d have recouped £40m!

It should be obvious to you by now that Milan will not sign any superstar or close to superstar CB anytime soon.. If Bonera hadn’t gotten injured, they weren’t even considering signing any new CB at all.. So for me, Bonera’s injury is a blessing in disguise, anyone better than him is more than welcome, don’t even wanna see him on the bench, talk less of him wearing our captain band…!!!
Galliani said that there will be some changes in our defence ahead of the transfer market, and that the best defence wins the league, we clearly do not have the best defence. But I know, maybe it’s just wishful thinking and you shouldnt believe everything Galliani says…

I disagree with those of the impression that Granqvist is mediocre. The fact that Granqvist is a Genoa player doesn’t make him mediocre, he’s strong, experienced and very very good at defending set play. He might not be the star center back we all crave for but this guy is at same level as Astori (YES!). Granqvist is admittably slightly better than the horrible Bonera. But if that is all we can manage/afford to sign, i would rather pass. Great if we can get a classy defender or at least a contender when everyone are fit. If not dont bother we cant build the team for the future around Zaccardo and Granqvist.
We aren’t likely to make any significant buy until we secure CL. Its too much of a financial risk until then. Even then, its not guaranteed.

@jibola. when you are building for the future then its somehow easy to choose between grangvist and rojo. of course grangvist is not a bad player if you ask me. but with the argentines potential, just imagine how good he could be at grangvists current age (28). rojo wouldn’t only be boneras replacement but someone to count on for the future… at least double the 4 years you’ve guess for grangvist. hope you see my point.

might be that we havent used more than 50 mil. on this squad but it’s definitely worth much more. i hope we wait to buy a defender until we know whether we will be in cl or not, and then buy Astori and Honda, if this happens it might not have been the most exciting Mercato but nonetheless a good one, if injury free this can be our start 11.
