All the early summer mercato talk has been centered around Keisuke Honda, Adam Ljajic and the sale of Robinho. But hearing that Kevin Prince Boateng and El Shaarawy were also up for sale was the final piece to the puzzle, that can help us all conclude that management has simply lost it. Adriano Galliani has been in Milan for many years and has had a reputation as a transfer Guru, but it’s become more and more clear that he is simply not perhaps the man he used to be.
For those who may be unaware by now, Galliani is Milan. That’s just it. He acts as President because Berlusconi is hardly as ever present as he used to, he is the Public Relations Officer and that’s why he is always the one answering questions in the media.
Reports: Ljajic agrees terms, Milan want Honda now
Galliani: “Robinho-Santos closer, Milan never go below third”
For this reason, you must be prepared to keep hearing comments like ‘we won more points than any other team since January’, ‘we are the best club in the world, we are complete as we are’, among other quotes. He is Milan’s number one fan and is always present during matches. He is the one who also decides contract terms with the players regarding who stays and who goes. He is also the one in charge of transfers. He is the Milan Historian who reminds us that the trophies we have won in Europe are more than that of any team. Perhaps all these positions are too much for one person and it’s time to shed some responsibilities to others. And to say Milan are changing formation for next season because of the signing of Saponara is just ridiculous. Is he Iniesta or Ozil? We all know he will hardly start games much more change an entire formation because of him.
So then again the question remains; Why is Milan reportedly looking to sell Boateng? The answer to this brings out even more disturbing questions like ‘Why was Christian Zaccardo signed at age 31 on a 4yr deal only to play less than 90 minutes. Why was Poland International Salamon Bartosz signed with no game time? Why was Didac Vila signed with only one game to his name? Why was Urby Emanuelson played as a trequartista, central midfielder and right – sided striker and yet has never started a game as a left back? Why did management say he was going to play his natural left back position the next season and never happened? Why the Ibra and Silva sales after confirming their stay? And finally, why sell Boateng after a poor season, after he was made to play as a False No. 9 (seriously??), as a trequartista and later as a winger?
When KPB first arrived in Milan, he was nicknamed “train without breaks” by the players because of the energy he possessed and never stopped running. In his first season, he was a bit part player because Milan made an astonishing 14 signings in that campaign alone. Some notable transfers included Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robinho, Antonio Cassano, Mark Van Bommel, Urby Emanuelson, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Nicola Legrottaglie, promoted Alexander Merkel and Rodney Strasser, Marco Amelia, Mario Yepes, Didac Vila et al. The team already had Pirlo, Seedorf and Ronaldinho to provide attacking threats. KPB would finish the season with 3 goals in 26 league matches.
In his next season though, KPB danced his way into a prominent Milan figure, just as he had done his Michael Jackson moonwalk celebration at the San Siro after being crowned Serie A champions. The then 24 yr old midfielder scored an impressive 9 goals in 27 matches only. That would be a goal in every 3 games. He suffered many injuries though and so made only 19 Serie A appearances. Who can forget his wonderful goals against Arsenal and Barcelona. What about his 14 minute hat-trick, when Milan were simply down and out by 3 – 0, in a game away to Lecce. He scored 3 goals of the highest quality before the 63 minute, making him only the second player in the history of Serie A, to score a hat-trick after coming off the bench.
Too many summer sales last season caused a lot of players to struggle with only El Shaarawy apparently benefitting from the player sales. Next season will be very difficult especially in Europe and at this rate, failure to make a mark in Europe will make our only few stars leave while attracting other stars will be difficult. As a matter of fact, even fighting for a top 3 finish will not be easy either and if we don’t, well Mino Raiola’s comments is enough to show that Balotelli will certainly not end his career in Milan.
Juventus are almost certain of a top 3 finish and with Benitez, Napoli fancy their chances too. Lazio are keeping hold of Hernanes while adding Lucas Biglia and Felipe Anderson makes then favorites for Europe too. Then there is Fiorentina who are still pushing for a goal getter like Mario Gomez and Roma who are courting Nani. Buying Adam Ljajic and Honda is shrewd but it should not mean reducing the depth in the squad. The likes of Madrid may have Ozil, Kaka, Di Maria, Modric, Alonso, Ronaldo, Khedira and Isco as midfielders and that shows depth in squad.
A proper use of Boateng is at least on the same level as Arturo Vidal of Juventus and so Milan must not only think about players in the starting 11 but also those on the bench. He played as a CM in the world cup for Ghana so why not use him there? Is Poli better than KPB? The only wrong thing about Kevin is the number 10 shirt he wears but besides that nothing.
On the side note, Allegri must really up his game this time and I partly blame him for our lack of depth. In a match that was all but over at half time against Pescara, one would have thought Bryan Cristante or Salamon Bartosz will make an appearance but enter Pazzini and Bakaye Traoré.
All the best Milan

I hope that Allegri reads this and gives Boateng a chance as CM or CDM. He was never meant to be played as a winger.
But let me state that Urby’s main position never was LB! Every coach at Ajax played him as a LB because of his versatility, but it was Marco van Basten that played him as LM and LW and that’s where Emanuelson really flourished.
Is dis another max critics or wat?.but i support wat u sed abt depth in d squad bt dis rosoneri blogger only tink abt d starting 11 n nt bench,if a player is 2 arive, does it means d existing ones should b sold 2 buy 2 anoda position?
Can anybody translate?
Agreed! I have always been a fan of KPB even before he joined Milan. They say that Honda will be a replacement for him, but i don’t want that. KPB is younger and can be more of a gamechanger that Honda (14 minute hat-trick, etc). I still really want Honda to come (and I actually never wanted Poli to join), and I think Ljajic will be a wonderful signing as well. Use KPB as a cm with De Jong, and Montolivo playing the other cm’s. use Honda or Saponara,(or Maybe even El Shaarawy, or Ljajic) as trequartista. Whatever may happen,… Read more »
There’s absolutely no reason at all…. He’s effective when played in the mid-field as we’ve evidently seen briefly on some occasions…I’d rather we keep him
Please spell properly next time.
I agree, that he should stay, only if used in midfield though. It would be a win-win situation, as he would benefit from it, and we would benefit just as much from it. As he runs a lot, a midfield consisting of Monto-De jong-Prince is a pretty complete midfield which possesses everything and then we’ll have Poli, Noce, Muntari as back-ups, if not one of them will be sold or some other player will arrive. Like this article states, we can’t only think of quality in the starting eleven, we need quality on the bench as well, as every true… Read more »
5 Things to expect from max allegri next season :
-bench el shaarawy
-play boateng in attack ( if he stays)
-traore to start ahead of cristante and emanuelson
-lots of injuries
-get 8 points in the UCL group stage
i hope he proves me wrong…

He will stay because no other clubs in Europe would pay 15M+ for a player of his quality. As Mourinho rightly said he have had more hair styles than number of goals (assists) last season.
Boateng is still one of the best in europe , he just had a bad season, if he stays , next year he will do really well, and the competition from honda will make him work harder on the pitch and play at his best.
I do want Ljajic, but my main worry is: does he have a place in the starting line-up or he will bench El Shaarawy? (Expecting Honda´s arrival). I also do agree with Boateng being a CM (Also Galliani said he will at the end of last season.) Could be interesting a 4-3-1-2 formation with Abate,Mexes,Zapata/Vergara(who is really nice aparently), De Sciglio; Montolivo, De Jong, BOATENG(Poli on bench); HONDA; El Shaarawy/Ljajic, Balotelli. But I was thinking (despite last week rumours) that Milan could use a 4-2-3-1 Formation and could be very nice as it can include El Shaa, Honda and Ljajic… Read more »
keep boateng honda n ljajic should be at milan to play in the champions leage .traore, binho, antonini, necorino sel dem niang on loan.forza milan
for the right offer we still could sell kpb… poli wont be the heir of him… galliani would find an adequate player to replace him…he is a good player, but not great…replaceable!
I pray we get viviano…cuz Gabriel and abbiati are dead woods….and pls don’t sell boateng rather sell traore, muntari and and other dead woods….
Our problem and solution is Galliani. You knw why? He did nt want to spend, whereas u keep some unused player on d bench. Why not sell all of them. And use d money to buy the three players we need(honda, ljajic, and sakho) finish and I believe 25m will buy the three of them.
We really need to have quality players both on the field and on the bench I’d rather have Kpb than honda, the work rate is not comparable on the field
About Boateng: I like him very much and would hate to see him leave, but beside miscalculating his skills and not using him properly, the additional problem with him is that he got a little bit too greedy in the end. He wants more money which he won’t get, and frankly also didn’t deserve last season. Once a player gets himself involved in that kind of conflicting situation, he’s not focused on performing well. So not only was he used in all the wrong positions on the pitch, he’s also lost that spark he had in the 2 seasons before… Read more »
the matter my bro, just is one thing and its money. we signed poli for flamini that scored 4 goals in last matches not just because poli is much more better, because his wage is half of flamini`s. yes uncle galliani wants ljajic and honda just because they will be out of contract and they are cheap. lijajic wage is 1/6 of robinho`s and low rate honda with just 2m price and of course with his asian market will be nice for us and we can replace 18m valuable prince with him. berlusconi will be happy, our seeking diversity fans will be happy… Read more »
…he replaced bojan and ambrosini with two youth.i am very very proud to see our academy`s players join our A squad but about galliani proud is not only matter, the other matter is they are cheaper than same level players from outside of club.
he extend our weakest defender bonera`s contract for two years just for he accepted to cut his half wage.
and both of flamini and boateng that want more money for new contract, one of them was released as free agent and other one putted in transfer list.
One of the best Articles I’ve read regarding Milan. The problem with KPB is that he got the speed, energy, stamina and shooting. rest zero. As an attacker, he is awful. Those games you mentioned are 3 4 games in how many games!!!! As a AMF and CMF he is not capable of passing and doesn’t have the Technic. he is more suited in DMF, but I think Dejong has more experience, and also there is nocerino. However, Milan is short in the budget. Unfortunately, only way for Milan to bring the Adem is to exclude a player with same… Read more »
Good article. I agree with what was said. However, sometimes depth can mean some players are not going to see the field. I hope that is not the case for Ljajic, Niang, Cristante, Salamon, Saponara, and others.
I like what you put across here.
i agree with some players not seeing the playing and thats where allegri comes in, he needs to learn how to rotate players and use substitutions
“The only wrong thing about Kevin is the number 10 shirt he wears but besides that nothing” are u serious? how about doing flicks and tricks instead of a simple pass? how about being more concerned about how his hair looks than his play on the field? how about wanting to be the superstar of the team instead of playing for the team and his teammates? how about attempting ridiculous long range shots that goes nowhere but up in the stands? how about not wanting to play in the midfield because he fancies himself as a 10? (which by the… Read more »
I really don’t mind if kpb stays or go, but nocerino should surely follow if he leaves as am sure Galliani will get someone more than capable to replace them as he is doing now!!!
Whay lack from KPB is vision. And IF think arrival like Honda, with Monty will help KPB with their vision. One thing I dislike from KPB he’s acting like he’s so important, I don’t see player with that attitude is fit with Milan
Yes, his Vision and his work rate is no longer the same like he used to be in his first season with us!
In reality, Boateng was never worthy of the No.10 Milan Jersey. He was asked to play as trequarista simply because there wasn’t anyone with enough ‘energy’ and sense of urgency in the squad for that role. The problem with that setup is that, Boateng simply does not have the composure nor the technique required to successfully carry out the task of a trequarista. Often you would see such disorganization with the build-up play with Boateng involved. No calmness, only energy, and energy. He can’t dribble, he can’t make through passes, he can’t shoot long shots accurately. Simply put, Boateng himself… Read more »
Acerbi,Masbah,Traore,Zacardo….Why did Galliani sign these guys?
Zaccardo was signed to be backup to De Sciglio in case Abate was sold to Zenit as it looked pretty much done deal at one point.
Acerbi was good player before he joined, but couldn’t continue his form at Milan.
Mesbah mainly I think cos we couldn’t sign better LB at the moment.
Boateng is better than poli or saponara in midfield or attacking positions.even if milan accuire honda,is honda better than boateng? I don’t think so.its high time Milan change the person responsible for transfer(Galiani)it should be one of our old players to bring in fresh blood to the squad like maldini, serginho, van basten, etc one this legends should handle transfer for milan.forza milan x
Abbiati…Desciglie…Mexes…Zapata…Emanuelson…Muntari…Montolivo….Dejong…KPB…Balotelli…SES
Milan is not the mighty club it use to be,imagine clubs in europe have attacking midfielders like ozil, iniesta, hernanes, mata amongs other world class attacking midfielders.while milan are talking about saponara for that position,I’m sorry to say saponara was not even in italian under 20 first 11.how on earth can he compete in the big level against big clubs in champions league?milan board should break the bank and get the darling fans a gift.
Reading some of you fans comment get me sick, cos some of you were the one calling his sell, now that you’ve all read a pretty opinoin of another person then you change your yours.
Well, I think most of the problems with some of our transfers is due to the fact that Milan won’t pay high wage, and once milan receive an irresistable bid from other club on a particular player, then consider such player gone. I tell you this, if the bid on EL99 continue with high bid,he’s gone then.
I assume that what milan is doing is pretty right, boeteng is not used to be the same and must be replaced with fresh blood. Milan certainly are doing well with this transfer window but they should enforce with CB. Galiani is a master mind and knows how to deal with business. 25 of years and he brought trophies more than any other club in the world

I agree that Boateng shouldn’t be sold if he’s going to play in midfield and perform like he used to. But that’s as much up to Allegri as Boateng. And we all know what Allegri’s reasoning’s like.
berlusconi claimed to av suggested the 433,then he suggested the 4312, where is the 4231 or 4321 coming from? my guess, Galliani. so much confussion in this club.
Nice article. Galliani really should talk less. Allegri must not forget that he has only next season to convince the whole world that he is indeed a good coach – talking about his average record the past two seasons. That said Milan have killed more talents than they have honed with their loaning. Don’t get me stated on the list of players. But I feel sorry for Strasser and I hope Bartosz don’t fall a victim,
4 2 3 1
Abbiati
Abate ASTORI Mexes De Sciglio
De Jong/Poli/Boateng Montolivo (C)
LJAJIC HONDA El Shaarawy
Balo
Teams like Milan and Juve and other world-class teams with history need to have two competitive teams, A-team and B-team, both pretty good. I think Milan can finally say that the B-team that they create is pretty good.
A-team (without new signings)
———–Abbiati———–
Abate–Zapata–Mexes–De Sciglio
——KPB—De Jong–Montolivo-
————-Honda————
———SES——–Balo—–
B-team (without new signings)
———–Gabriel————
De Sciglio–Vhergara–Salamon–Constant
—-Poli—-Muntari——-Nocerino
—————Saponara————
———-Ljajic———Niang——-
ATM, Pazzo is injured, so Niang would start in the B-team, while De Sciglio plays LB in A-team, he can play RB if Abate gets injured.
Whats wrong the number on KPB’s shirt?
FYI.. Monty’s favourite is 18..so then who wears 10? Bonera or Traore??
With Robinho’s nearing exit, KPB will stay..he had a decent season even though it was below the high standards we expectd after 2 consecutive great seasons..
The team needs depth and competition, so in my opinion KPB will stay.
I am all for selling Boateng. I was a huge supporter of his until he asked for a raise after scoring his first goal of the season after being mediocre all year. Mind you he has been played out of position but still i think he should go and make way for a true CAM in saponara/honda
Get Honda & NANI to replace Robinho & KPB
Great article!!!.Its clear you knw what milan is all about and your reasonable points justifies that.So pls ignore some of this fans comment, ideas or critisms on your article.Like that human being called harco suggesting KPB should play as a ‘CDM’ for goodness sake ‘CDM’.Do u even know the position? .If u do, u’re sugesting boateng shuld play their after 3 seasons we shuld all know the position he plays better but definatly not as CDM.Lastly about urby.At his time at Ajax as of the 2005–06 season he became the first choice ‘LEFT BACK’ i repeat ‘LEFT BACK’ and he won… Read more »
So what you’re saying about Emanuelson is actually the same as what I said? Great work.
Nice and lovely article …
Nice one guys, ur opinions hav bin gud but mine is dat why has galliani kept dead woods lik bonera, abbiati in the team,I learnt milan is xperiencn a financial melt down nw if truly galliani is a tranfer guru as they he is y not sell three to four of the unused players and use the fund to get quality players. We saw strikers like teves right in front of us we couldn’t get him d likes dzeko is still there y not sell dis unused players and get dis guys to play quality football for us are we going… Read more »
im with not selling boateng too, but if hes not feeling well in milan because of the racism, he will not bring the performance to the pitch we want. besides that my opinion about transfers is that when boateng stays we only need one more midfielder besides him, montolivo, poli, saponara, cristante and de jong (traore, nocerino, strasser and emanuelson are to leave) im ok with either honda or eriksen but what we really need are good center backs and a real (and talented) left winger. de scilio is actually a right winger. mexes is good but old, bonera was… Read more »
its crystal clear that there is a huge corruption in Milan’s Administration
