Gattuso: “Emotional return, I’m still not ready for Milan”

GENNARO GATTUSO admits he doesn’t feel ready to take the Milan job after his 6-0 defeat to the Rossoneri today.

The Milan fans welcomed Rino Gattuso back at Stadio San Siro as the midfielder, who will officially retire from active play at the end of the current season, coached his teammates at FC Sion against the red and black boys of Massimiliano Allegri.

Sion did well in the first half and the score was 0-0 after 45 minutes but the second half was a different story as Bakaye Traoré, Bojan Krkic (brace), Robinho, Gianmarco De Feo and an own goal from Sion’s Benjamin Kololli made it 6-0.

“How can you not get emotional returning to this place. It’s been a great day. I was happy with the first half and less so with the second. I like this new job a lot and it’s been a natural transition for me,” Rino said. “Seeing Milan in the position they’re n now, it seems like years have passed, but it’s only been months. They’re a quality team with a big future ahead of them.

“We all know about Mario Balotelli while Mattia De Sciglio can play at the highest level as if he’s playing with the youth team. The chants from the Milan fans? It felt like being a player again. Coming back to Milan to coach? It would mean that I’ll have done well but it’s utopian to think about coming here to coach immediately. I still have to eat a lot of pasta before I’m ready for a job like that,” added the 35-year-old. “My relationship with Allegri? You have to stop saying that we had a fight.

“That sort of thing never happened between Allegri and myself. In fact, I had to laugh when they said that I left because of him.” Gattuso played a key part in Milan’s 2011 Scudetto success under Allegri and Max was happy to see him again.

“Gattuso as a coach? I was pleased to see him again and to see him as a coach. Sion did well in the first half and he has all the right characteristics to do well in this job,” Allegri told the Milan Channel. “It was a good test and a chance to see some of the players who have played less recently. Now we have another two days off and then we’ll start thinking about Chievo.

“There are nine games left and we have to hold onto third place and try to improve on it. It’ll be 9 tough matches for us starting with Chievo who need the points. We’ll have to work hard. Balotelli has scored a few for us and he’s showing his worth in the Nazionale. De Sciglio did well too (in Italy’s 2-2 draw versus Brazil in which Mario scored and Mattia debuted).”

M’Baye Niang, 18, was in the starting XI but again couldn’t find the back of the net. “We had a tough session yesterday and today we tried to show intensity on the pitch,” the Frenchman said. “We played a good game and now we have two days off before we start to think about Chievo. I’m happy for Bojan and Robinho who are both important players for the squad.”

Milan: Amelia (Andrenacci 79′); Antonini, Mexes, Bbonera, Constant; Flamini (Bortoli 73′), Traoré (Claveria 87′), Nocerino (Bendé Bendé 87′); Niang (De Feo 73′), Bojan (Aniekan 87′), Robinho (Medhoum 87′).

Lil Bright

I’ve never seen/heard the names of the sub on the milan vs sion match

Signor Eskola

Yeah, that’s because they’re from Primavera and they weren’t on international duties, so that’s why we haven’t heard of them before. I’m happy for De Feo for his goal.

Gattuso was awesome – he loved Milan with all his heart and it was sad to see him go but going with the youth is the way now.
