Milan: The future is the Barcelona model

55

MILAN ARE ready to embrace the model of Ajax and Barca as they prepare a revolution of the youth.

They say the future belongs to the young and Milan certainly seem to believe that as they completely changed their approach and instead of buying top expensive players, they are interested in creating them.

The likes of Mattia De Sciglio, M’Baye Niang, Stephan El Shaarawy and Mario Balotelli appear to be the present and future but Milan are working on a long-term project which will start taking shape in June.

P. Berlusconi and Balotelli clear the air
Highlights: Milan 9-2 Sant’Angelo

Today there as a meeting between Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani, the Youth Department directors Ariedo Braida and Mauro Bianchessi, Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri and assistant Mauro Tassotti and the youth teams coaches: Aldo Dolcetti, Filippo Inzaghi, Omar Danesi, Walter De Vecchi, Roberto Bertuzzo.

Milan are planning to use the model that has brought success to Ajax and more recently Barcelona. The youth teams The Primavera, the 2 Allievi sides and the three Giovanissimi teams will start using similar tactics as the first team starting from next year and the coaches will use the same methodology. Allegri will be the coordinator but Milan could decide to appoint a technical manager which will function as the ‘link’.

Allegri has always been in favour of using more youngsters and the idea is to produce players like Franco Baresi, Alessandro Costacurta and Paolo Maldini. Milan have already brought back in the summer some of their past scouts including the one that revealed De Sciglio who has been very impressing this season.

Milan hope to have this project in full swing at three years which is also the time Milan have estimated that they will return to the top of football in Italy and more importantly in Europe and the Champions League.

I am soooooooo excited!!! 🙂

I hope they don’t just get Italian players tho, I want players from all over the world! That way they will have a more diverse audience and racism will be a thing of the past for Italy.

I agree, as long as they understand what it means to be a Milan player. Players like Maldini, De Rossi, Totti and Del Piero bled their colours. Italians tend to understand the pride in being a Milan player more than players from outside of Italy. If you want players to play their entire career at Milan, it’ll more likely be an Italian than a foreigner. But thats just my opinion

Ya but that’s only because it’s their own country’s club, it symbolizes Italian football. If you had an Italian play in Brazil, the Brazilians would seem much more loyal. Players like Thiago Silva, the Dutch trio, Kaka, etc. I can name a lot are as loyal as the players you just mentioned. It depends on the person, not the country they belong to.

Personally, I think a multicultural club will succeed more than a club with a ethnic majority. They don’t just win trophies but they win the hearts of their fans.

I completely agree, dont get me wrong. Im Italian, and my favourite Milan player was always Kaka. And yes Milan has had a long history of loyal non-Italian players. BUT my point was, that in general, an Italian is more likely to appreciate the Milan colours than a non-Italian. For every one non-Italian Milan legend, I can name two or three Italian Milan legends. Take Pato for example, another one of my favourite Milan players of all time. Theres no question in my mind that he bleeds rossoneri, but naturally, he became home sick. Paolo Maldini or De Rossi on… Read more »

ok first of all i appretiate the idea with all my heart, but are we actually giving allegri the responsibility sinking his underdog football mentality down to our youngsters, our future? What is wrong with milan? Something has gone terribly wrong with milan. I understand when barca takes the guardiola philosophy, i understand when ajax takes cruyff philosophy…… The mighty Milan throws away what every other great coach in Milan history has created, and chooses to follow the allegri philosophy.

I am pretty sure Milan will get rid of Allegri in 2014. Even if they don’t, I don’t see anything wrong with the guy. He was stubborn before but now he isn’t. He has tried new formations and I can see him leading Milan for a very long time. I wouldn’t mind Van Basten coming and couching Milan tho!

In my opinion, recently the mistake that Allegri did, was only playing Bonera again, but he prefers Niang than Robinho..and he was struggle when Milan in very difficult position. So it seems he is quite good for this philosophy. Maybe I want to know if you have an ideal coach for this project..

A manager or coach is not scored on how his team plays. He is scored on his results.
Go ask Roma why they sacked Zeman or ask Chelsea why they sacked de matteo.

Guadiola is not great because of how his team played(evry team in spain plays d same way), he is great because of d number of Trophies he won.

If pple still root 4 Wenger even tho his limited tactical skills have been xposed time n time again, y not let Allegri finish his contract in peace.

Allegri is the best coach 4 this ongoing project.remember he made the veterans leave and brought in youngsters,Allegri was the same coach that gave these youngsters exposure,he needs a little bit of respect guys and stop bashing him day in day out.im with u Allegri.i support our project too.but we need more italians in our team so that we can dominate the national team like barca..forza milan.

those who think the opposite are under 15 or don’t know anything about football,I mean which coach can win with bonera in his starting line up lol
allegri record in serie a is very good
99 games, 60 wins 22 draws and 17 lose
he should stay for atleast one more season

pato was never home sick…galliani was desperate to sell pato so he can raise fund for another striker.to proove it,he flew to brazil and stayed for more than a week searching for buyers for both pato and robinho..nationality does not matter.afterall cassano is an italian and he betrayed us.boriello is an italian too who celebrates crazily anytime he scores against us.andre pirlo is also italian too.he has little respect for milan.he talks as if he came from the juve academy.so my point is that nationality does not matter.we have fans scattered all over the world so the best players should… Read more »

Galliani was neva desperate to sell Pato..after the CL game against Malaga Pato said he was unhappy at Milan..just days after Ronaldo said he was unhappy at Madrid..
Pirlo didn’t come from Milan academy either he came to Milan from Inter just like Seedorf.. Allegri made a mistake with Pirlo cos he preferred Ambro & MVB to him and thats it..but Tassotti rated Allegri as one of the Top two coaches Milan ever had and this is comin from aman that has worked in Milan for over 30yrs..

Yeah right youth,by offering the 31y-old Zaccardo a 5 year contract, and keeping Bonera,Ambro and Antonini in the team. Don’t get carried away,G&B tend to make BIG PROMISES and not keep them. Like the “Ibra project” or bring back Kaka project….. When they buy quality and young CB’s a LB,and MC’s,and when I see Albertazi,Cristiante(Merkel) in the first team I’ll belive it.

Albertazi and Merkel is overrated, at least until now. Get over it. Hopefully, Cristante won’t be like them.

@milan fan,so you would prefer to have Mesbah sit on the bench, recieve wages while doing nothing? The way i see it,Mesbah-Zaccardo swap is a good deal as Zaccardo actually has more to offer,he can play as a CB and RB and is one of the reasons Parma had a good home record in the 1st half of the season.

True. Zaccardo is a lot better than Mesbah despite his age. That’s a good piece of transfer.

we’ve had sacchi, tabarez, terim, ancelotti, all coaches best known of their ATTACKING GOOD FOOTBALL PHYLOSOPHY, and we choose to built with allegri, and you milan fans support that? Guys SES defends more than he scores, messi scores three goals per game , way more than our strikers combined, and you want to see the same from the future milan. We have tassotti on the bench at least he knows athing or two about attacking football, about MILAN, since he was the member of the grande milan and he has worked with all great milan managers, and we go for… Read more »

I think el92 and niang are only defending because of the weak defense. as soon as the defense gets reinforced with good people, allegri won’t be asking him to help out at the back. But i don’t see anything wrong with that, he has saved our a%% a lot of times with his awesome defending.

I agree attacking football is amazing to watch but we don’t have the proper defense to play that style yet. Look at Roma, they tried playing like that but their awful defense and goalkeeper made them regret their decision.

Ender

we also had CAPELLO, that was well known for his DEFENSIVE philosophy.
Also mentioning Tabarez and Terim (both coaches that I really respect) when they got sacked within a year doesn’t make your argument stronger.
Who do you think we should hire next, Zdenek Zeman ???

fajri
Guest
fajri

Lol. Comparing SES to Messi? SES has just played his regular matches at top level this season, at 20 y/o, while Messi has been around since 18 or 19 y/o, it means around 7 years ago. He’s not anywhere near Messi yet.

Let’s see where Allegri will bring Milan at the end of the season and reevaluate the condition. If he could survive with the team with poor defense like this and bring Milan to the Champions League next season, I guess he could do more with better defense next year. After all, it’s up to B&G decision.

Terim was a disaster in Milan. He would win the big matches (6-0 vs. inter) but fail mesirably in the small ones. And we did see milan win in style last year against Arsenal.

guys stop thinking like juve or inter fans, don’t JUST be happy with winning the league, the idea is to dominate europe, not JUST italy like inter and juve. This is milan there’s a reason we have 7 ucl titles and juve 2, we think big, and allegri is just going to get us the league at best. If his record is that good in serie a, why is it poor in the ucl.

For a long time I felt Allegri is a midtable coach but you ve got to gv him credit for revamping the team..Milan is now a nursery and this team will grow just like Ancelotti’s team did.. do u know that between 1995 & 2003 Milan never got to CL quarter finals..the team was being built.. Cyborg, i’m done trying to reason with u.
U so much hate Allegri to d extent dat u can’t even enjoy d fact dat based on d number of points gotten, Milan has been d best team since January.

Sacchi had d best defenders in d world n d finest attack.
Apart 4rm Milan, wat other team did sacchi hav success with?

Sacchi, Pep, Capello and Mourinho are great coaches bcos their team WON TROPHIES not bcos they played beautiful futball.

Don’t worry Allegri will not be d coach of Milan forever.
So iftu can’t support ur team, u can go support barca till Allegri leaves, then u can come back.

I loved Milan when we had Sacchi, Capello, becos they played balanced football. Efficiency is wat i want!
I don’t care if it’s “beautiful” or not.

kuchini what makes you call sacchi’s milan ‘grande milan’ and ancellotti’s milan just ‘milan’ even though they both won the ucl twice? My friend if you are a real football fanatic, and have played football, then you’d know that it’s not JUST about winning, like it is with mourinho, it’s about winning beautifully, it’s about making a statement, it’s about making a print in every football fan’s memory that will last for ever, and JUST winning won’t get you there, which is why every football fan considers pep’s barca the best team even though they didn’t always win the domestic… Read more »

What happened in his final season at Milan?

You claim dat Ibra gave us d scudetto.
Let me tell u, Sacchi had d Dutch Trio, Baresi, Donadoni and Maldini, i can as well say, dat they whr d ones dat gave us d CL back-2-back and nt Sacchi.

It’s a long term project, with results expected in 3 yrs. So far it looks fine and we should pray they do give the young players a chance to play in the UCL. But no stupid mistakes as selling off Merkel, Verdi, Beretta etc. Petagna, Ganz etc must be encouraged more.
