Allegri: “Important to go through”

MASSIMILIANO ALLEGRI does not take the Coppa Italia quarter final fixture against Lazio lightly.

Milan host Lazio on Thursday night (20:45 CET kick off) as the two sides will be looking for a win and a meeting against Juventus in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, after Conte’s men defeated Roma 3-0.

The Rossoneri’s main objectives are to win the Scudetto again and do better in the Champions League, but also the Coppa Italia is something Milan want to win and coach Allegri takes this competition seriously.

“Lazio are competitive and that shows in their results. It won’t be an easy game and I’ll have to put out the best side I can,” Max Allegri said in today’s press conference. “We have a cup quarter final to play and we have the duty to get through to the next round because the Italian cup is one of the season’s objectives.

“Tomorrow we’ll have different motivation. It’s a quarter final and we want to get into the semis. It’ll be a different game tomorrow. Lazio are a big team and for our part, it’s important for us to get through to the next round. Getting to a semifinal is an important target for us. Lazio are in good form and will put out their best side. We’ll have to play well to get through to the next round,” the former Cagliari manager continued.

Allegri will be without many injured players for tomorrow’s game. “I don’t have a set line-up for tomorrow’s match,” the Milan boss said. “[Clarence] Seedorf will start. [Djamel] Mesbah might start as well. [Daniele] Bonera will play at centre back. [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic is available but I don’t think he’ll start the game.

“Experiments have not been done because I don’t do experiments. As a playmaker, Emanuelson has just missed that single bit of magic that would make that position his own. In the middle we can play with Merkel and one of Seedorf and Robinho behind the forwards, even if I played Seedorf on the wing last year. El Shaarawy has grown a lot and more than expected. It’s strange to watch a player grow so quickly.”

The last time Milan won the Coppa Italia was in the 2002/2003 season, beating Roma in the final, who defeated Lazio in the semi-finals of that edition. Milan have won the Coppa Italia 5 times in their history.

Bashing joe

Start with whatever formation, we are milan & so should beat lazio anyday anytime. Just lets avoid more injuries & most importantly win within 90 minutes, so as to avoid ET fatigue or a possible penalties which can go either ways.

danrondo

I think we’re better now compared to the last time we met. Let allegri put a strong side in their preferred position and victory is ours…i opined we play bad and win than play good and lose

CaptainMarvelQ8

we will play with juventus in the semi finals if we win tonight.Payback time !
