The Dream Mercato

19

THE recent trend for every Milanista now is to share an idea on what would mean a successful mercato. Since I’m no different I am in a way going to offer my 2 cents on the matter. The biggest transfer figure dominating Milan’s news in recent weeks has been MR. X. Indeed many names have been been linked with this position, with Kwadwo Asamoah of Udinese, Rafael Van der Vaart of Spurs, Marek Hamsik of Napoli and even very recently Alberto Aquilani being a few to mention.

Now clearly the names mentioned above will all be seemingly perfect fits for the position. With each candidates possessing an advantage over the others in one way or the other. With this being said it will be justice to analyse each of them and the benefits they bring. Thus beginning with Kwadwo Asamoah, as a colleague earlier on said he been most of the part a quiet and more so an unsung hero for the Udine side for quite sometime now.

Very tactically adept, quite strong enough for someone of his build, versatile enough and technically gifted with a sweet left foot. He’s young enough to be able to join and become part of a nucleus for a strong side.Yet the question that beckons is if he possesses character and attitude enough to join the Diavoli. For a mez’alla one needs attitude enough to be able to lead from the midfield and for now Asamoah seems to be lacking on that front.

Alex Witsel to be Mr. X?
Milan “in partnership” with Roberto de Assis

Moving on to the next candidate Van der Vaart, another of such impeccable technique, an ability to beat a player or two if required, a decent goal return for a midfielder and as proven in Spurs this season character enough to lead when the tide seems against them.Yet for all his overwhelming attributes Rafael is one injury prone player, it therefore wouldn’t make sense to go after a player who will spend equal time under the knife as on the field.

This brings me to Marek Hamsik, a player that in my opinion, is the perfect fit for the position available. Young, with loads of character befitting a captain, wonderful technique, an eye for goal, a good pass range and could even play as a trequartista when needed. The only problem, Berlu in a political move has made a promise to Napoli not to go after their jewel.

Last on the list is Aquilani, it’s a given he’s a quality player. He possesses a great first touch, good passing range, the ability to shoot from long distances. Yet as seen with Juve this year he lacks character and seems to sink with a team in times of dire need, it’s also no secret how injury prone he is and I think it would serve Milan best to stay clear off him.

In my personal opinion, I believe Milan is decently covered in this position. I’ve heard Galliani mention Boateng as a trequartista and given his performances when he’s played there this season, this could be said of him. Nevertheless, the honest situation is Boateng isn’t a trequartista, and would fit perfectly in the position Milan seem to be looking onto others to fill. With a truckload of drive and passion, combined with his workrate, talent and brilliant technique he’s the perfect example of what Milan need in that position and it would be in good stead of Milan to have him there. With Emmanuelson also a capable cover up I do feel Milan is covered over there.

The position begging to be filled though is that of the Trequartista and Milan would be incredibly rewarded if filled rightly. Others could mention Seedorf  but as we all know perfectly the Diavoli mayor’s best days are behind him and would be best as a cover up. The two delightful names that come into mind here are Ganso and Lamela. Yet with both of them being considerably young and the slot of the EU national taken I believe Galliani is just erring on caution, and wait another year to see how they perform to see if they are truly of the personality to join. I’ve heard Fabregas being mentioned, perhaps he would be the reasonable choice as at now given that he’s of immense quality and would be a wonderful compliment to a magical attacking line of Ibra and Pato. Nevertheless these are just my thoughts and it would be wonderful to know your thoughts on this with your comments. We are Rossoneri it’s our God-given right to dream biggest.

Let milan any three then, the midfield will be solved.

Pato Is Brilliant

We believe in Uncle Fester. He will sign the best player for us.

Pato Is Brilliant

Did you know guys, that Galliani have offered €30M for Fabregas with an option of buying any 2 from these young players, Merkel, Paloschi, Emanuelson and Strasser. Arsenal are considering this bid eventhough they know that Barcelona are favourites for acquiring his services.

Ouch!

Ganso, pastore or lamela for the trequista postion oh what a dream

Dave

Good informed article. You make very good points, especially about Boateng (but nevertheless Allegri’s made it clear he wants KPB at CAM next season no question). Assuming Allegri’s description of the so-called mr. x is not a smoke and mirrors technique, then you have to rule out Asamoah. Hasmik (and Pastore) were explicitly ruled out by Galliani earlier today. Neither Ganso or Lamela are true left-sided midfielders are increasingly being excluded from the conversation at that position. So, that leaves: Van der Vaart, Aquilani, Fabregas, Witsel, and Bale; only naming players that have been linked to that position. Likeliest out… Read more »

Dave,

If we’re also listening to Galliani, VDV, Aquil, and Fab have all been discounted as well.

I put little stock into anything we say in the transfer market to be honest.
It’s all a game.

Dave

Certainly, it is likely he is simply patronizing the Milan masses in the off-season. Walks away from the press conferences laughing. Maniacal Uncle Fester loves to entertain our curiosity.

Bale Fabre i believe are CM and LM respectively………for AMF position Nasri,Van Der Vaart,Ganso,Lamela,Pastore….one of ’em will be good

Anthony

If it is a Trequartista Milan are after then Pastore would be the perfect. Already a proven success in Serie A. Without a doubt Fabregas is the ideal replacement for Pirlo however I can’t see him going to Milan if Barca offer money plus Krkic the cost for Fabregas would be too much. Nasri is another name linke however like Fabregas he would be too expensive. However would be the perfect fit for Milan as a left sided played. I personally think Milan do not need to bust the bank, they just need to be smart. Buy Asamoah and I… Read more »

I agree that Boateng should play in midfield, but isn’t he more at home on the right?
If you are looking for somebody to play behind the strikers why not Cassano? I believe that he is much more suited for that role than Prince is.
With Seedorf too old and Urby too young the need is for a left sided mid as the bald man has said many times.

ask guys, how many milan buy new player in this mercato?
I hear that 2 player,1 player for LCM n 1 from mr.berlu gifts

Kittanning

I’d like to see Merkel get a lot more PT, Milan is pretty much set for next year, I focus more on cutting some dead weight like Cassano.

im hopping for Hamsik he would be the best player and i hate berlu for his promise :)

i believe pastori is a great deal for milan and we need a player to cover for ibra if he cant play

rossonero23

Cristiano Ronaldo would be the dream signing.
He’s scored 50 + goals this season.
