Abbiati: ‘We will stay in first place’

16

CHRISTIAN ABBIATI believes that Milan will win the Scudetto despite recent disappointments.

Milan goalkeeper Abbiati has had a fantastic season so far and he’s certainly one of the main reasons why the Rossoneri have the best defense in the league – conceded only 19 goals.

The gap between il Diavolo are second-placed Napoli is only three points, while it could be -2 from Inter if they win their remaining game. However, Abbiati believes Milan will stay top.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: ‘I feel very tired’
Wolfsburg interested in Milan veteran?

Here are parts from his interview with the Rome-based newspaper il Corriere dello Sport:

Abbiati, can we trust this Milan?
“Of course, we are first in the standings and we’re going to stay in this spot until the end of the season.”

Why are you so optimistic?
“We are happy. We are conscious of our strength and believe in the final result.”

Who is the most dangerous?
“Inter have certainly improved and are more competitive. Napoli and Roma are only a step behind. They are dangerous too.”

Milan in 2011 haven’t lost, but yet is considered in crisis.
“Do not worry… we’ve a great football … we do not waver.”

Yes, but in the last two games, there were two draws.
“Lazio has not made a single shot on goal at San Siro. Muslera was good to stop and we were very unlucky. Against Genoa it was all the more difficult but the equalizer came out of a rebound.”

Beat Parma and Tottenham, to be back on track?
Yes, the victories are always important. Especially in this decisive stage of the season. “

So Abbiati thinks we were very unlucky against Genoa, that means they have been lucky with all the other teams. Abbiati as much as a good goal keeper you are .The game of football or any other sport for that matter needs 99% hard work and 1 % luck. You hav had plenty of them so far. Unless & Until the coach gets his formation and tactics right , NO good luck can help Milan. Milan are an exposed lot now and the coach lacks plan B. Either play beautiful and Lose or Win Ugly, But Allegri so far has… Read more »

Abbiati’s the man. Probably the most underrated goalkeeper in the world! He’s fantastic and I think absolutely right! Once Pirlo comes back Ibra is going to score a lot more goals. We’re really suffering in the midfield because we don’t have the great passers like Pirlo and Ambrosini, who can deliver the balls Ibra and Pato are looking, as well as create space by their strategy; Van Bommel is good passer, but he still has to jell with the team and learn how to position himself relative to his teammates. I’m convinced we will win the scudetto, but only if… Read more »

19 goals but it would be 15 if Amelia plays as great as Abbiati and not conceded 4 goals from Udinese. Also agree with Chandler, i think Abbiati deserve a call for Azzuri. Buffon is amazing but Abbiati was more reliable in this season. Forza Milan!

@Student When you have three or four stars in your team of course you would depend on them specially the ones that are shinning the brightest at any particular moment, examples of winning teams depending on stars in different era’s : brazil Ronaldo (R9), France Zidane, Barcelona (Figo, Ronaldinho and now Messi, Xavi and Ineista), Manchester United (Beckham) Napoli (Maradona), AC Milan (Van Basten, Rijkard and Gullit). I just don’t get your point cause you purchase these stars to be able to depend on them to get you the result. Pato is still a rising star and hasn’t shown his… Read more »

@Student Come on man, don’t be so harsh. Would you rather have Allegri risk it, play beautiful football and lose (Arsenal for a few seasons before the current one), or actually grind out the results for this season and win the scudetto? I honestly think the team has done relatively well despite the ‘No identity football’ you talk about. There were a few games that we played really well, despite it being against weaker teams, it showed glimpses of what to expect in the future. Ease up a bit, this is the closest as we’ve ever been to winning something… Read more »

I dont understand guys like Jack & Danial. I am very clear in what i see and say. For goodness sake ,one should understand that Milan are not able to utilize the kind of players we have. we had worst players last season and played handsome for most part. If you go back in time and notice how Milan has come up,its because of a brand of Football. They were known for their defence and for consolidated creative football. What do players like Maldini Baresi Van Basten Gullit Kaka Rjaaikard Sheva represent-Creativity & Reliability, for the first time Allegri has… Read more »

Student, I agree with you on Milan not being able to utilize the players, but none of our players are yet or may never be on the same level as the ones you mentioned. Last season our attacking looked good because we had Dinho and Pirlo spreading the ball across the park, while this season we only have Pirlo and he’s out most of the time. But defensive-wise last season, we get raped all the time because of the formation, this season we’ve improved in that department even if not by much. All because of the change of tactic and… Read more »

As a Milan fans, i find it annoying with student comments. When i talked about Rafa Benitez to one of my friends (he’s a big Inter fans), he always had a lot of positive thinking about Inter condition. He believed that somehow Inter will be rise and back in the scudetto race, with or without Benitez. And it’s happen! Inter rised and get back in the scudetto race again. That showed what a true fans must treated their favorite club, and i respect that a lot even he’s not one of us (Milan fans). But this student…i don’t think he’s… Read more »

@student i made those comparisons because dependency on great players has been there since football was created. Trust me no one from Milan fan base is expecting a treble sure we are dreaming of one, but know that it won’t be happening this term. Allegri cannot use any other plan because Pirlo is out which means any forward we have all have to fall deep to receive the ball cause we don’t have any great creative midfield players and also the mids have to throw out long hopeful balls which i hate. Hence it seems like Allegri is solely depending… Read more »

@ JACK You are saying that having a plan B is not possible even for Barcelona against Inter ,why not say that it was plan B from Mourinho which helped Inter stop Barca last season. It was famously called PARKING THE BUS. Playing Thiago Silva as a DM doesnt necessarily mean PLAN B or C ,its merely a change in formation. What i ask for is tactics based on your opponents strength’s & weakness. Holding the ball , Passing, Possession, Team Chemistry,Vision, substitutions & Non Favoritism, Allegri calls the shots for all the above to be exemplary but he has… Read more »

Key word from my previous comment is ‘PARTLY rebuilding’. Understand it, then argue. This is obviously not our final product, one would be foolish to think so. Please don’t talk and say things as if you’re the smartest around here, you can leave long ass comments everywhere and a lot will still disagree with you. You’re just so narrow minded and arrogant. I don’t think you even understand what Plan B means. What Inter did with Barca and Lazio against us was Plan A, they started and ended with the same tactic. Changing tactics during the same game is called… Read more »

@DANIAL You still dont make sense, You sound bitter like a loser. Any team playing its own brand of football play according to their strengths & the opponents weakness. That brand when utilised in the right sense does give them an identity.however based on the opponents weakness and our strength ,the coach has to come up with instant ideas and that is what you call Plan A B &C , You dont start a game with Plan A and not have Plan B, what if Ibra gets red carded in the first few minutes of the game. A weaker team always… Read more »

Student I can go on forever trying to argue with you but you’re simply not worth it and have no class in debating whatsoever man. You just keep saying the same thing. You mentioned the Barca vs Inter game and Lazio, right? I’m relating that to the Plan B that you want so much. The only thing Inter and Lazio has in common is that they went into the game only with one aim, defend and try their luck on the counter. That is not Plan B, that’s the main plan hence making it Plan A. Throughout the game they… Read more »

Thank you DANIAL well said about Arsenal , they havent won anything but they have a brand of football and just check how many youngsters are purchased cheap groomed and compete in CL. Arsenal is Amazing & Awesome And yes my argument is when you already sense the plan of the opponent ,Carlo Capello Mourinho SAF Wenger will know what to expect from the team ,unlike Allegri who waits till Ibra scores and then we start to defend till the end, my anger with his approach is what do u do when Ibra is bottled or red carded , our… Read more »

But Student, you can’t really expect our management to replicate what Arsenal/Barcelona is doing, can you? Their foundation are based on their respective youth team and we know how hard it is for Milan to trust in theirs, but Merkel, Strasser and Abate are signs of a better future. I never said I didn’t understand that, I’ve said on numerous occasions that Allegri is questionable with his tactics, but you getting people pissed off on the net won’t do any good. I’ve also said in the nicest of ways before, you just need to relax more. Don’t you worry, i’m… Read more »

@ DAnial I am not expecting any changes from our management, All i want Allegri is to understand the players we have and use them accordingly. is that asking for more , He is so adamant with his formation and has never learnt still about his substitutions. the mistakes he intentionally does is costing Milan the title. Wasnt Allegri supposed to be a very shrewd tactician who likes to get 100% from his players, since he didnt get anything from Ronaldinho he got rid of him. Bonera and Seedorf have been given ample chances and they have been screwing up… Read more »
