SOKRATIS PAPASTATHOPOULOS has confirmed he will be playing for Milan next season.
The transfer of Papastathopoulos is not concluded yet, but the Greek 22-year-old center back has already spoken to La Gazzetta dello Sport about the transfer to Black & Red.
“My surname is too long so I put ‘Sokratis’ on my back. You can also call me ‘Papa’, like my friends do,” he said. “I am a central defender, but if necessary can also play right-back. No problem.
“I feel very satisfied to complete this transfer. I am looking forward to integrate, listen, learn and show people who I am. I will move to the city of Milan as I want to experience the city where I will play.
“I used to play as a striker when I was younger and scored lots of goals. But then slowly I begun to play towards the back, and now I’m a defender.”
“I admire and try to imitate [Paolo] Maldini, [Alessandro] Nesta and [Fabio] Cannavaro,” the Genoa man and U-21 Greece national team captain concluded.
The details of the transfer are still blurred, but it is expected to be official in hours or days.
