LEONARDO believes a lot has changed from the match against Atalanta back in Bergamo, as discussed over the upcoming match against the Nerazzuri this Sunday noon.
In the last time Milan faced Atalanta it ended 1-1. The home-side took the lead first, and after a tough match, Ronaldinho succeeded to score and rescue one point from the bottom side.
But that was the Rossoneri’s dark part. Now, Milan are second in the standing of Serie A, one point ahead of Roma and four points from Inter in first place. The Brazilian Coach thinks Milan have turned over during the season.
“For me, until now, Milan’s journey is a project that’s never ended, it’s like a book: there’s always a line to change, a chapter to insert. There are still many stories that can be useful from this season,” Leo told the press.
“We are improving: when the team is in difficulty, especially in the marking, we manage to get out. By now we are able to read games better.
“At the time the situation was difficult. I had to build the formation and understand which was the most suitable solution. Also during training we tried things out and I tried to verify everything.
“At the time of the first match against Atalanta I didn’t have the perspective of arriving at March like this, I was only concentrated on making the team play well, aside from the league position.”
The 40-year-old then talked about the match with Atalanta this Sunday:
“Aside from the league position of teams like Atalanta, the results of our performances are much more dependent on how teams propose themselves in games. For example, against us Livorno defended a lot.
“For tomorrow’s match against Atalanta we can predict that we will play against a well-organised team, which will try to mark us, but it’s still a team that needs points.
“Bortolo Mutti’s formation has players on the wings who tend to attack a lot and others who have an offensive idea of football like Doni and Tiribocchi. I still see Milan doing well.
“Psychologically the lads are doing well. There are still thirteen games to go before the end of the season, that’s a lot. Milan have to concentrate on their own game, this will be fundamental for us.
“We have to continue on our journey in the league, as we have done until today, trying to maintain our game.”
On the formation, Leo said:
“My choices in the formation for tomorrow’s match will be made on the basis of the condition of the players, and the ones who are suspended. For example, Flamini’s suspension was unexpected.
“Then we’ll have to consider the return of players like Zambrotta and Mancini: we have to see if they are available yet.
“Also, there are players who are involved with their national teams on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Ambrosini’s situation has to be evaluated, I think the only problem is the knock he got against Fiorentina.”
