Is Dzeko Plan Still Needed?

11

ROSSONERIBLOG.COM’s Meytar Zeevi went out to check if AC Milan are still holding place for Wolfsburg star Edin Dzeko, as the numbers in the price tag of the Bosnian are increasing.

Do Milan still like Dzeko? After the whacking season German champions, VfL Wolfsburg managed, the status of Edin, who along with Grafite, led Wolfsburg to a first, historic Bundesliga title, was undisputed.

But like any person who’s been in a reality show, Dzeko had his own 15 minutes of fame, but very regretfully for him, and especially for his agent, he didn’t succeed to secure any move, as prolonging his contract with Die Wölfe.

Huntelaar: A Flop Or A Miss?

So where the story of the 23-year-striker has began? Edin Dzeko was born in 17 March 1986, in Sarajevo, SFR Yugoslavia. After the SFR Yugoslavia had dissolved, the player has considered, and still considers as Bosnian.

Edin, 1.92 meters of height, started his career as a boy at FK Željezničar Sarajevo, and then stepped up to the first team, when was only 16 years. However, the young lad managed to score only one goal in 40 matches; however, there he played as a midfielder, and not as a striker.

In 2005, he moved to FK Teplice, from where he was sent to one year loan spell at Czech side FK Ústí nad Labem, there he scored 6 goals in 15 appearances. Coming back to Teplice, Dzeko played until 2007, as scoring 16 goals in 28 matches.

Following great performance of the player, German side, VfL Wolfsburg signed Edin for €4m. The rest is history now. Wolfsburg won the title two years after Dzeko arrived, and the status of Dzeko has suddenly turned to be a one of a star.

While Dzeko was tearing sheets at Germany, Milan meanwhile, managed another hack season with Carlo Ancelotti, as finishing third in league, after Inter and Juventus. With the change of Coach in summer, Milan sought a striker.

Leonardo wanted a striker, a one that has the qualities to decide games. With the diamond formation he planed out at the start of the season, he needed another striker alongside Alexandre Pato, and so as the race for Dzeko began.

Dzeko showed he loves Milan, saying it would be a dream for him to sign at the Milanese giants, but at the end of the day, nothing happened. Dzeko stayed at Wolfsburg, Milan bought Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The love fair ended.

This season is a lot different from the last one for Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich and Bayern Leverkusen are competing on the title, as the Champions lost form, as well as strikes in the net, and are only 12th in league.

Wolfsburg scored 40 goals this season in league, but only 11 of them belong to Dzeko. The Bosnian has kept some form, but also Milan striker, Marco Borriello seems to return to Genoa days, as scoring beautifully goals, even though scored twice fewer than Edin.

Leonardo lines up 4-3-3, with Ronaldinho and Pato on the wings and Borriello in the middle. KJH was the original plan, but the lack of experience Leonardo hamper the Dutchman from growing, a thing, that would have been also if Dzeko was at Milan right now.

Reports suggested Milan have lost connections with Wolfsburg, as the press believes the Rossoneri are tired from luring an unrealistic target, who costs €40m after one season of wonderful performance, in which the world has discovered him. This price is TEN TIMES HIGHER than what Die Wolfe paid only two years ago.

Think it’s insane? You’re right. The agent of the player has said the Rossoneri still want the player, but really, with €40m, a club like Milan will buy at least four players, who are actually needed, and not just a player who had 15 minutes of fame.

Milan, be right, don’t try to shock the world like the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City. Think, before you act, don’t waste your time on ridicules requests and buy something you really need, like a defender or midfielder.

The story of Dzeko comes down to these words so far in this season: goals decreasing, price increasing.

i don’t think he was never needed.

Dzeko is a great player. I don’t know where’s your point. He still scores, like yourself said, more than Borriello. I hope they’ll get Edin Dzeko. The price is insane

Nadacs

the price is not realistic. come on! 40m euros for a 23-year-old who is not called cesc fabregas. doesn’t worth it!

Rus

Good article as always. Forza Milan! Don’t get Dzeko…

Xag

don’t get dzeko. be right and don’t pay for him. 15m is alright. but 40m euros??? who died?

Zaw

Dzeko? good player. The price of Dzeko? good joke

Forza Milan. I think Leonardo would have done a better job with ED than he did we KJH

Forza

Dzeko is very talented. But I agree. 40m Euros is too much. Milan must not do such mistakes and sign a player that hasn’t proved himself throughout three seasons already. If Milan want a center striker, they have Borriello now and maybe Neymar could be a great player…

I don’t think we need Dzeko. His price is ridiculous. I would rather buy Fabregas for that amount. Besides, Huntelaar has saved Milan many times. Just look at the previous match. He saved Milan against Fiorentina. Face it people, we have the quality striker we needed. Its Leonardo who is lacking the experience to take the reigns of such a big squad, or else why would Berlusconi wants to fire him now.

What we need is defenders and a solid Midfielder. Hunt and Dzeko cannot be compared. Dzeko is not what Milan needs. We need more solid players.

Dear Milan colleagues, I am new to this site and quite fascinated from it, I am a keen Milan fan ( whom else, Inter ? hahahah ), and was part of La Fossa for a couple of years, ’til they disbanded. Now what regards Edin, no matter how much I like him as a player, and his unconditional love for our glorious jersey, 40 mill…. you must be kidding us, no way Galliani & co. , will open their wallets for that figure, on top of that is not that Wolfsburg are poor, they are VW afterall. If they could… Read more »

milan should sign Afellay from psv. very versatile, fast and skilful midfielder, great dribbling, passing, shooting skills, he can play central MF, attacking central MF, right wing, and left wing. he is in the last year of his contract and will only cost around £10m. he would be an excellent signing to bring the extra creativity and pace milan needs.
