Edin Dzeko deal fell through last week, new Wolfsburg head-coach Armin Veh explains why
The coach revealed that the reasons to Dzeko’s status as unsellable are very clear: he has vital part in the squad and it would be just not worthwhile to let him leave. Armin Veh has said again that Edin Dzeko will not leave Wolfsburg this summer.
Speaking to Uefa.com, Armin Veh told what the reason not to let Dzeko go is. Clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Manchester United and AC Milan are interesting in his star.
“Selling him would make no sense at the moment,” he explained. “For the money offered, we would struggle to get a player of a similar standard and it would give the wrong message to the rest of the team if I let him go,” Veh said.
“Selling him would have been detrimental to the team. With the money we received, it would have been difficult to replace him with a player of the same level and been a negative signal to the whole squad.
“I don’t deny he would be very pleased to play in Milan, but this doesn’t mean he cannot be happy here at Wolfsburg,” he suggested. “This year, I want to challenge for the Bundesliga again and am looking forward to our debut in the Champions League,” he told.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international scored an impressive 36 goals in all competitions in 2008-09 and the ex-Stuttgart coach is hoping he will be just as effective next season. Dzeko helped Wolfsburg to win first Bundesliga title ever with his teammates.
