Maldini’s tribute. Great player, live legend

General manger Adriano Galliani said yesterday that Milan will sign a very good young player, and it did happened as they have signed a 17-years-old striker name Giacomo Beretta from U.C. AlbinoLeffe. The official announcement in Milan’s website reads:

U.C. Albinoleffe have communicated on their official website that the player Giacomo Beretta has been sold completely to Milan with an agreement for participation.

Meanwhile, the Italian football association have honored the legend, Paolo Maldini. The FIGC (or Federcalcio) have paid a tribute to AC Milan and Italy national team legend Paolo Maldini.

Maldini had great career, which saw 126 games with the Azzurri. FIGC dedicated a whole page to Maldini in today’s edition of La Gazzetta Dello Sport, thanking him for all the times he played with the Italian national team during the years 1988-2002.

The message inside the paper’s spread reads, “Paolo Maldini, 126 times Azzurro, Grazie [thank you].” The picture above shows the defender wearing the famous number three jersey with the captain’s armband on his left arm.

Maldini played for Italy since 1988, his first match with the older squad was on 31 March, in a 1-1 friendly draw against Yugoslavia. Regretfully, he retired when he was only 34, following an embarrassing loss to South Korea during the 2002 World Cup.

The FIGC honored the Italian legend now, but many fans of Maldini have campaigned for one last match with Maldini in an Azzurri shirt. Maldini retired from football for good, and today, is the day that his Milan contract expires!

Good Bye Paolo, We Loved To See You Play Every Time!
