Zvonimir Boban, like always, didn’t spare his criticism and claimed: ‘I love Milan so the situation saddens me.’
Milan are not the team they used to be and even Silvio Berlusconi allegedly said the losses to the likes of Sassuolo and Atalanta are unacceptable (he called Inzaghi to deny those statements today).
Boban was highly critical of Milan and coach Inzaghi after their 1-0 defeat at San Siro this Sunday, claiming that: “This team has never played a great football, and at the same time Inzaghi has never given them great ideologies on their football.
“They aren’t sacrificing and giving it all, they are relaxing and jogging, and a team that means only an even more mediocre Milan side will play. If you don’t run and fight, this is the Milan you will see.”
Speaking to il Corriere della Sera, Boban said more of the same and said that if he were the President, he would pick up the phone and call legend Paolo Maldini.
“What’s going on with Milan? There’s a grave error of perspective: a big confusion between what they are and what they think they are,” Boban, who played for Milan from 1991 to 2002, said. “Presumption? Yes. Someone believed in something that can never exist, at least with this squad.
“After a few good games and the performances against Napoli and Roma, the conviction of being something else, which was also supported by the media, caused this relaxation, at least in terms of character. If their situation is serious? There’s no total drama but it’s of some importance.
“What baffles me the most? Even more than the results, it’s the way they’re coming. The squad is not extraordinary but it’s not worse than Sampdoria’s and Empoli’s. Did you see the first half against Atalanta? That’s unacceptable.
“What’s the main reasons? Too many players that don’t really know how to play well with others. Players that don’t always run and are incompatible with the idea of a fluid game. An individualistic player works well if he’s placed in a harmonic structure, otherwise he’s counterproductive.
“But this way, this team will never play well. Inzaghi? It’s not easy for Pippo. He’s maturing as a coach. He’s ‘softly’ made it clear that this Milan is not ‘da third place’ but the triumphalistic messages of the club have created trouble for him. The formation? He can play with the 4-3-3 formation or the 4-2-3-1 system depending on the opponents. But fluid football remains the utopia.
“A striker? The error (of bringing) Torres upset everything. With the false nine Inzaghi made a virtue of necessity, but a real center forward is the basis of football, especially in difficult times.
“Menez? I see him as winger. He’s a man or dribbling and assists. Although his unpredictability is a double edged sword: it may surprise the opponents but also his teammates.
“Silvio Berlusconi is convinced this Milan is not inferior to anyone in Italy? The President has unfortunately lost the vision of what the case has become today. What Berlusconi did is one thing, what he’s doing now is another. Just like Milan. From geniuses in communication, they now make surreal declarations but eventually the truth always wins.
“The whistlers at San Siro? It’s normal. The fans feel cheated. If there’s nothing of my Milan spirit? The charm remains and they will never miss it. I love Milan so the situation saddens me. Another year without the Champions League would a disaster? It’s not so important. Those are the effects. Before returning it’ll take a rebuild of the club structure.
“Arrigo Sacchi is the solution? I love him, he’s the greatest revolutionary in football. But I’d tell him: ‘Arrigo basta (enough)’. Why? Because it would be cumbersome and in bad taste. As an external consultant he would be perfect but more than that… pure anachronism. Galliani and Barbara Berlusconi? It’s so obvious, it’s absurd to have two CEO’s.
“If Boban were president of Milan? I’d re-establish the hierarchy and give the institution clarity. Anything else? I’d call Paolo Maldini.
Im starting to realise that Milan is only going downwors. And has been for 5 – 6 years. And it Will continue for 5-6 years more. Because Berlusconi is not alowed to cover the red defict with hes own money. We must first refuce wages significently and than we need the new stadium to start earning money. Tell you what bro, i agree with what you said to some extent, but rather than avoid seeing our games, i’ll watch. I’ll watch us fall if we can’t rise, if we were on top i would be on top also, i do believe we’ll be competitive again, even though i don’t know when. When i first became a Milan fan i said to myself, through the good times and bad. I’ve been through the good, guess it’s time for the bad. Inzaghi has completely failed to assign task to the right player. Honda played some good football with abate, which means if players willing to run, honda can easily play trequartista role in a 4321 formation

Boban is absolutely right in every aspect he talked about. The players, coaches, and the management need to accept the truth, and realize that they are not what they think they are. To be honest, this team is not better than sassoulo in my opinion.
I would suggest Maldini to take Galliani’s position, and maybe Frank Rijkaard to be the manager (or someone with similar attitude).

They can spend money and invest in the clubs Because they dont have 500 milion in defict. Like milan does. With no revenue you are not allowed to invest. The clubs u mentioned goes in ++ every year and that allow them to invest more.

This season is going to be a disaster too. I wonder what happened to the youth project at milan, at least they had a direction to go into and we the fans would have understood that a young squad would take time to develop. This would have also saved us financial resources which we could then use to get a few quality players and then build the team around them. Galliani this is for you: If you want Milan to make it for next year CHL than stop bringing us players like Tores , he isn’t even our own player after all and we have to pay him so much salary. Boban is exactly a person Milan should hire along with Maldini but it will not happen until Bunga sells the club and Kojak is out. I would also find a role for Gatuso – those players understand what it means to play for Milan and what Milan needs and are not afraid to speak their mind. Inzaghi is a puppet. Sick of this team and management.
