UEFA HAVE announced that the Giuseppe Meazza will be the home to the UEFA Champions League final in the year of 2016.
Milan’s number one target is to return to the Champions League next season and now they have an extra incentive as the final of the 2015/16 edition will be held at Stadio San Siro, UEFA have unsurprisingly confirmed on Thursday evening.
“Milano’s Stadio Giuseppe Meazza – otherwise known as San Siro – has been selected to host the 2016 UEFA Champions League final,” it reads on uefa.com today. “The decision was made at Thursday’s UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Nyon and it will be the fourth time the European Cup has been decided at the stadium after showpiece occasions in 1965, 1970 and 2001. The arena, first opened in 1926, is home to both AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano, and has a capacity of nearly 80,000 seats for UEFA competitions.” The world will be able to see how San Siro looks packed this Saturday as the Meazza is expected to be completely sold out for Matchday 3’s Milan-Juventus.
FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio commented UEFA choice: “We can finally celebrate: it’s excellent news for Italian football, which has the ambition to return to be an absolute protagonist in Europe, also thanks to the organization of big events like this or the 2020 Euro’s for which Rome is a candidate and we hope to receive another good news from Geneva tomorrow.
“The CL final and in particular the economic impact on the territory will be an amazing opportunity for Milano, which will be able to prolong the benefits expected for Expo 2015. I’m sure that the local administration, which scheduled important investments for the improvement of the quality of life of its citizens, the requalification and the innovation of the city, will be able to fully seize the opportunity of this sports event. I want to thank my predecessor Giancarlo Abete, Milano and its administrators, the consortium M-I stadium, the clubs Milan & Inter and FIGC’s staff that worked on the candidacy: thanks to an intense team work, we managed to reach the goal we set. I hope to see on the pitch, in that day, at least 1 Italian team.”
San Siro has already been improved but it will undergo more renovations in the next year so it will be in top condition for the 2016 final. This of course doesn’t change Milan’s intention to build a new stadium which they hope to have until 2018.

Wow, great news in my opinion for Italian football. I really love the San Siro, its such a magnificent stadium and I wish that Milan would just outright buy this stadium and renovate it instead of building a new one, would save them the time and fans are already used to it, although I have no idea if it would be more costly.
I wish to see the 2016 UCL Finals as a Milan derby.
Forza Milan!!!.
O my God gud news i hope my milan wil mak it forza milan 3point on satruday guys on gud luck
Milan Vs Inter 2016 champions league final… Gives me shivers thinking about the possibility of such an incredible event
Gr8t news 4 we milan fanz
Extra incentive indeed for us to reach UCL for the next season, and once we do (fingers crossed) I hope we can strengthen the team further, midfield and perhaps another quality centre back. I don’t know what Suso can add to the team tbh, as we already have plenty of attacking players…and if we will add another attacking player id prefer it to be one from our primavera. This is my opinion though. First thing first though, fingers crossed for a top three finish – aim for the scudetto, we have to aim high. Forza Milan!
I never wish Inter Milan to prosper but by this news only this once and never again I wish they can qualify for the Champions league. All two Milan clubs in the UEFA. Wow so excited :-D
