CLARENCE SEEDORF will look at the rankings in May and has pointed out aspects of the game Milan need to work on.
Milan have been given the day off and will return to training at Milanello on Tuesday, after beating Catania 1-0 at Stadio San Siro last night. It was not beautiful but efficient and took a lot of hard work and Milan got the three points on Sunday.
The Rossoneri got the lead in the 23rd minute thanks to a precise Riccardo Montolivo strike from 30-meters away from the goal and they managed to keep this advantage to the final minute; this win has got them to the 8th place in the standings.
Montolivo: “No more slip ups, we have to win every game”
Game recap: Milan 1-0 Catania
“I’ve always had to think about defending and attacking throughout my career and I’m doing the same as a coach,” boss Seedorf said in a press conference after the game. “We have to get the best out of ourselves and we were compact on Sunday, maintaining the result that we had and looking for the 2nd goal, which never came. The team held tight to the end.
“I think the way we handle possession can improve. Keisuke Honda (who missed the game with a twisted ankle)? I don’t know how he’s feeling, we’ll see on Monday. He’s been doing physiotherapy; I hope he’ll be available for the next match.”

Seedorf also spoke to Sky Sport Italia yesterday right after the last whistle: “I always said I didn’t look at the table, as I know our situation, we have games to play and should only pay attention to it at the end of the season. The performance was sufficient as they played like a team, were aggressive and determined. We only played beautiful football in fits and starts, but that can happen against a side that tries to stop you playing. We should give credit to Catania, as they never give up.
“This also happened last week against Genoa and we need to improve, as we are still not calm enough and make the wrong choices: if we have one player against one, we pass it to the player who has two in front of him. We don’t keep control of the game. When we did keep possession for a while, we ended up shooting, so that is something we’ve to do better.
“I was above all pleased with the spirit to bring the points home, then we’ll work on improving the style of football and remaining consistent over the whole 90 minutes. The balance of this Milan side? The team is collaborating more now between the lines and communicating, understanding what is needed when helping the defence. It’s a process and I don’t think it can be resolved quickly, but to emerge from a situation like this requires character and this team showed it has that.
“Bonera over Abate? I’d prefer the likes of Cafu and Serginho on the flanks, but we don’t have them! Bonera has brought great balance to the side, Constant is a midfielder, Emanuelson has played as a full-back a few times in his career; we don’t really have a left-back. Abate had been doing well, then he got injured and those who replaced him have been doing well.”
Milan’s next game is against another team from the relegation zone – Livorno – but right after that they have two very tough games, against Roma and Inter. il Diavolo’s last two games of the season are against Atalanta and 19th-place Sassuolo.

I believe u Dorf…. we av to keep winning and also keep improving… 8th position was more like a dream than reality… But all thanks to u for bringing back teamwork, team fight and the true spirit of Milan…. Keep up the good work… At least our confidence on this team as fans are on a constant raise… kudos Dorf!”” More grease to ur elbow…. From a Milanisti who is happy with our performance of late
Grande seedorf! Forza milano!!! We gonna bounce back nxt season. Berlu did good by sacking allegri .who knows maybe we could have been fighting for relegation.
I alwy’s knw dis team will change bt it’s gonna come late in d season. I xpected dis change @ around d endin of January bt all gud. Now we can c next season team in gud shap…..cudos Doff keep d team fire burning. forza milano
if the team remains with these players, the next season will be like this one. we need quality players. many players should leave.
I dont think Mexes will be availiable for Livorno
cause of cards!
I also liked K.Boateng who played very well for Catania as a sub and when he gets back from loan he should be given chances from Seedorf!
Hes our future!
are you kidding?
I’m glad Seedorf realizes we haven’t had a left back since Antonini. As good and versatile as De Sciglio is, he was only made a LB out of necessity. Constant was a midfielder til he got here, and Emanualson has been asked to play entirely too many different positions in his career. I remember him playing CAM. Now he’s a leftback? lol I wouldn’t mind Contrão, but I’d love to snag Shaw from Southampton, but I don’t think we have the money for him. United are probably gonna win that bid.
I personally think De Sciglio is better at left back than at right back, he’s solid at the right but spectacular on the left. And Shaw, in my opinion feels more like premier league type of a player than suited for Serie A, although he is very talented.
We need to improve and improve in every single day. I hope seedorf will prepare Milan to be able to compete in CL 2016. San siro will be a venue in Final 2016,CMIIW, and that will be very good for Milan, Seedorf, and all Milanisti to be there.
4-2-3-1 sucks for so many reasons.
1. We have no wingers (Honda/Kaka/Birsa/Poli are NOT wingers, never will be). Shaarawy still injured.
2. Balotelli as lone CF doesn’t work, he’s never in the box – he needs a partner.
3. Midfielders not dynamic/skillfull enough for double pivot.
I love that Seedorf is actually punishing players for getting injured too often. Players need to take care of themselves as well. Just like Ibra used to do. Ibra never used to force himself into challenges and ball winning jumps if he knew he wasn’t gonna get the ball or risk injury. I loved him for that.
Even without any experience Seedorf knows whats he doing.
FORZA MILAN.
-I have a statement for all of you reading comments carefully. -I’ve been monitoring Alberto Paloschi the past 3 years and, at the time ACMilan needs the most a fast, solid more practical solution in attack with the likes of Robinho,Niang,Kaka,Balotelli and above all Matri, all linked away from “San Siro” next season I read, via Football-italia.net “Siqueira-Paloschi swap?” -From Christian Eriksen(Tottenham) to Adel Taarabt(QPR) and from Gaston Ramirez(Southampton) to Guilherme Siqueira(Granada),this is good marketing and transfer strategy! It is shame the majority don’t see it that way,(…). -For a fee around 7 million for the 27year old Guilherme Sigueira Adriano… Read more »
i know we won 4 matches in row, but we should wait for roma and inter games.
those games are the real test.
goal.com stated that milan is targeting mikel and cole from chelsea. first: enough with this type of midfielders, without any vision or quality, we have a lot of them: muntari, essien, de jong etc… Enough! second: ashley cole is 34 years old!!! typical galliani”s ideas. he should leave.
-Both Cole and Mikel are false alarms clearly head to head, the past 2years(propably more) championships are, Premier League and Primera Division for ACMilan’s “area of “top transfers””. -Don’t rush your judgment just yet, let us see a official singing first,an actual buy rather than another free agent buy in. -My personal opinion up to now is, they don’t have any or they have very few buyers for their “so called “dead weight”” so the press for a few days will put the club in the spotlight, hope at least to read in the next few days something “not frustrating”.… Read more »
I don’t trust galliani anymore. Milan need someone that has clear football ideas and modern ones like Maldini. Galliani is only good when the money are available, so as the money are not available, we need to change the solutions. after 25 years we need to change.
