Galliani: So I Convinced Rino To Stay

ADRIANO GALLIANI has told how he made Gennaro Gattuso to sign a contract extension, and according to his words, it was not that hard.

AC Milan announced that Gattuso has signed a two-year extension in his contract despite reports suggested the Italian midfielder was unhappy at AC Milan, as he is tired from Coach Leonardo overlooking him all the time.

Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as other sides, showed interest in the player, but a meeting with Milan administrator, Galliani, has fixed it all, as the contract of the 31-years-old has been prolonged until June 30, 2012.

OFFICIAL: Gattuso Signs Extension

Galliani has explained on Thursday, why happened during the meeting that ruled Gattuso’s future this week, in which he has not only conviced Rino to stay, but to sign a 30% cut in his wages.

“In my office I have a picture of me and Gattuso hugging after the Champions League final in Athens,” he said.

“When Rino came to discuss his situation, I took the photo, I put in front of my face and I started to ask Gattuso, almost like a chant: ‘Are you really sure you want to go? You’re convinced you want to go?’

“When he smiled, I looked out from behind the frame and I said, ‘then sign here [to extend].’

Gattuso has returned from his injury and travel with Milan to Fiorentina on Saturday, but likely to start from the bench.

Adriano was then asked about the discontent at Milan and answered:

“The dream of every chief executive would be to pay 11 sets of wages and to make the same 11 players play every game, this way you’d save money.

“However, you can’t do that; you need two players for every position with the many injuries in this fast and physical game, in fact you need three players.

“There will always be players who aren’t happy because they are out of the starting line-up,” he concluded.
